What's with Locke using the "Mikhail hospitality" gesture? Beware your host???

View Full Version : Iced tea, anyone? lost reader 02-17-2008, 12:42 PM What's with Locke using the "Mikhail hospitality" gesture? Beware your host??? Jedierica 02-17-2008, 01:11 PM What's with Locke using the "Mikhail hospitality" gesture? Beware your host??? Why shouldn't he. Remember when the groups split up the first time. He said you know where we are if you change your mind. They were just being cautious when approached very soon by members of Jack's group. Locke needed to have a sit down with Sayid and find out what he wanted and where he stood on the danger of the freighties. Once that was established they worked out a deal. Surferdervish 02-17-2008, 01:12 PM Probably just so we could get the priceless look on Ben's face as he offered "I'm thirsty..." That was some skanky looking tea, though. Can' t blame Sayid for turning up his nose. Fierro 02-17-2008, 01:13 PM The Losties are slowly becoming the next OTHERS. Coke/Pepsi/Shasta product placement would not go over too well, but then again I guess they could ask for another generic drink besides Iced-tea, like water or juice. But it's really a stretch to look for a greater meaning in Iced-tea ;) MIKHAIL: Perhaps I can begin to earn your forgiveness by offering you some iced tea MIKHAIL: I grow the tea myself. So pardon the sweetness. SAYID: Any tea is good tea. SAWYER: A misunderstanding's when you bring me lemonade instead of iced-tea. JAE [subtitled]:Can I get you a drink? SUN [subtitled]: Just some iced-tea, please. JAE: In English. SUN [with difficulty]: I would like iced-tea, please. i_wana_get_lost_with_starla 02-17-2008, 01:37 PM :D Nestea's ice tea is mmm mmmh good and so delicious and nutricious. Low low price and mmm mmmh so darn nice ; ) Buy a 12 pack now, and you'll be saving the planet. Thats Nestea, iced delicious tea. :D disclaimer: Im not with Nestea or Nestle and was NOT paid any money. Im NOT a paid sponsor of Nestea or Nestle (wish I was). Im just a proud drinker of Nestea's delicious Iced tea. YUM : ) "dude, you got some Arzt on you" (4.8.15.16.23.42) 02-19-2008, 03:11 PM The Losties are slowly becoming the next OTHERS. Bingo! Lost Ed 02-19-2008, 03:39 PM Iced Tea = A Deceit prospero 02-19-2008, 03:47 PM Yes... losties are the new others. And yes, I'm thirsty. lost reader 02-19-2008, 05:20 PM Nice catch, Lost Ed. It's one of those little gems that are fun to catch. How many times has iced tea been offered? How many times is deceit involved? Liplocked 02-19-2008, 05:30 PM Nice! I love an anagram, and the Losties' shift of desire from escape, to remain, is cute. But I think the deceit is yet to be revealed: I think either Sayid or Kate assisted Mikhail in his escape on John's (less than attentive  ) watch ...and here Sayid and Kate are again. LOVE their dynamic. macgreagor 02-19-2008, 06:40 PM What a great catch! Maybe since it was Locke and Sayid together when Mikhail offered the iced tea at the Flame(?), it was a subtle clue to Sayid from Locke that Ben wouldn't catch. And it sure was nasty looking, I wouldn't want any either. Doesn't Otherville have an icemaker? Cheesburgers and grilled cheese but no ice cubes? Oh, maybe they all got contaminated when the Others gassed Kate and left her chained to the pool table, and Sayid chained to the swing set. And Juliet was pretending. ;) Maybe Ben's uber closet has one for his personal use. momster4 02-19-2008, 07:10 PM I like the thought that the Losties are becoming the new Others. Food for thought. Or, iced tea for thought.... Corey Chaos 02-19-2008, 08:38 PM Iced-Tea Quotes -- perhaps the chosen beverage for the show is Iced-tea. Maybe it'll be a recurring theme, like with eyes. ;) Simplist 02-19-2008, 10:25 PM there was no ice in it... it really wasnt iced-tea... it was just tea... lostorfound 02-19-2008, 10:52 PM Maybe Ben was trying to win Sayid's trust by "tasting" the tea first. If not, his request for some was still pretty funny. momster4 02-20-2008, 12:20 AM You guys are so silly. Poor Ben. "Plain, disgusting, un-iced tea anyone?" Liplocked 02-20-2008, 05:04 AM Tea drinking is a very civilised affair - and in Asian cultures can be ritualistically formal. Korea has its own take on the ceremony. It's a hospitable thing to offer it, but I'm wondering if the type of tea may hold some significance here. It's also a very useful thing to offer on asking someone back to your place after a date; if you offer tea, it should be clear what it is you aren't offering. But of course if Ben would prefer coffee.... ETA: I found this searching The Way Of Tea: Simplicity focused brings an end to conflict In Japan the preparation and serving of tea has been elevated to that of a fine art through Chanoyu, the Japanese tea ceremony. This spiritual practice requires years of dedicated study, yet celebrates the simple poetry of life and the communion that exists between guest and host. Paradoxically, it has its roots in war. In the sixteenth century, military leaders would leave their weapons and differences outside the door of the tea room in hopes of resolving their conflicts over a steaming cup of cha (tea.) The elaborate ritual enforced an atmosphere of civility and restraint over the otherwise warring parties. not quite two glasses on a tray - but there may be something in it. momster4 02-20-2008, 08:28 AM Tea drinking is a very civilised affair - and in Asian cultures can be ritualistically formal. Also in the South (USA), people usually always offer iced tea (sweetened, of course), but I like the 'war/tea' theory much better :) sk8rpro 02-20-2008, 04:05 PM :D Nestea's ice tea is mmm mmmh good and so delicious and nutricious. We all know that Farmer Bros. is the best  But seriously with Locke offering the tea, it just shows how our heroes are coming full circle on the Island. ladyspur 02-20-2008, 04:09 PM WOW.....I didn't think twice about Locke offering Ben the iced tea as a subliminal message. biggerricker 02-20-2008, 05:00 PM Iced Tea = A Deceit I concur. lost reader 02-22-2008, 04:02 PM And there is was again in Eggtown! pleasance 02-24-2008, 07:46 AM And "iced tea" without the "ice" is very close to "death". |
