technology always seems to get the best of me....

here's the problem...i had a cd in my cd-rom drive for a game (that has been working and playing for a while now) i have on my comp, recently i got the second edition of the game and put it in, nothing happened. so i took that out and put the first cd game back in, now my cd-rom is not reading anything and everytime i try to access my cd-rom using anything it says "D:/ is not accessible. The device is not ready"

any idea what i did wrong and how i can fix it? short of calling a computer tech (i am kinda broke at the moment)

1. Shut down computer.

2. Unplug computer from power source, keyboard, mouse, etc.

3. Throw computer out open window.

4. Buy new computer.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm not a computer genius myself and since I have a hand-me-down at home that is always giving me problems, the above steps are the ones I'd really like to follow.

Go to my computer. You will see listed D: CD rom drive or something like that. Right click on it and a box will open. Click properties and another box will open Click the hardware tab and on the bottom of that box you will see a box labeled "troubleshoot" Click it and follow the steps. It will tell you if there is a problem and what it could be. If it is not listed when you double click my computer, then it somehow got disconnected from your computer and you can go to control panel, search for new hardware and see if it finds it
Let me know how you make out

alright i tried that, but when i clicked on properties all it had was general, no hardware tab. i also searched my system and found the cd-rom in system properties and it popped up with the general info about the cd-rom with a note saying "this device is working properly" :( so if it's working properly why can't i access it? :'(

...on an even worse note..my bedroom is being invaded by boxelder bugs...it has not been a good day :( :'(
