View Full Version : "I killed a chicken..........
wanders01 02-22-2008, 11:12 AM Locke has blood all over his hands and tells Kate he killed a chicken. Earlier he tells Ben that he got the last of the eggs. Does that mean that the eggs are no longer being produced because of the island effects or have the chickens been used up?
I thought the blood was from Locke's frustration with Ben when he broke the breakfast plate that he cut himself cleaning up. He didn't want Kate to know how Bens was still getting to him. Thoughts?
LOST Granny 02-22-2008, 11:14 AM So, this makes me wonder about the title. Locke fed Ben the last of the eggs, but the epi is called Eggtown. Locke killed the chicken - this must have been the last chicken. So why eggtown??? Does it refer to having babies since Kate was thinking she was pregnant? I am flumoxed.
wanders01 02-22-2008, 11:19 AM Me too!! We have 1 chicken and two eggs.............hmmmm does seem like I'm missing the big picture here. Logic tells me you're going to have no eggs if you kill the chicken.
I don't know, I think if Locke cut himself on the plate it would've been easier to just tell Kate that.
If they're running out of eggs, then killing the chicken might not have been the smartest thing to do.
livinginmyownflashback 02-22-2008, 11:27 AM What if it's referring to the old saying 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch'?
Has many implications -- for Kate thinking she was pregnant and then NOT. And also -- for the viewer -- don't think you've got it figured out before you know all the facts. Also--something I found interesting was how Locke made a point of smelling the egg after he cracked it. Kind of like checking to see if it was still good? Are these old eggs that have been around?
I did get the sense that he was lying about the killing the chicken.
wanders01 02-22-2008, 11:27 AM I don't think he would tell Kate because he didn't want any one to know that Ben was in the basement. Nor would he want to admit he LOST his temper again.
Second thought though would be last of the eggs were gone so he killed the chicken so Ben couldn't have any more fresh eggs. Sort of "no eggs for you Ben"
GettinLost 02-22-2008, 12:29 PM Right. THey do a whole "I killed a chicken" and "these are the last of the eggs" scene/lines and they couldn't squeeze a moment of Claire alone crying over Charlie's death??
It must have something to do with Kate not being pregnant.

No eggs? Very possible. That would explain why she was so adamant about not being preggers.
chops 02-24-2008, 02:55 PM I think the killing of the chicken with his bare hands is symbolic of Locke's state of mind. He's lost his temper and is showing a more violent streak. It's like he had to take his frustration out on something. Locke has already expressed his disgust at the settlement and easy lifestyle that the others had going.
He's also not thinking of the long term but being a hunter and providing an immediate meal for the group.
i_wana_get_lost_with_starla 02-24-2008, 03:13 PM Yea, he killed a chicken.. maybe Locke was bored, idk lol. But I gotta go with Kate not being pregnant and still being a mommy.
indirect symbolism.
"Driveshaft, more like Suckshaft"
Thongy 02-24-2008, 03:52 PM And it seems he killed his chicken down in the basement. Did you see all the blood all over the floor in the corridor when Kate takes Miles there?
Skippy2Tacos 02-24-2008, 04:03 PM Clair did mention that Locke was "cooking" all day. Betcha it's a chicken!
Fiver 02-24-2008, 04:22 PM Maybe it's symbolic of Locke's current lack of forethought - he's being impulsive and pretty stupid, and he's not thinking of the long-term interest of the group. He's arrogant enought to believe he can kill the chicken and still find food for all the sheeple living in the little houses expecting that he will provide for them. Kind of like the rabbits in the civilized warren in Watership Down?
(4.8.15.16.23.42) 02-25-2008, 05:14 PM Just have to say that I loved the expressions that so fluidly flowed across Locke's face after this comment.
I had to smirk when he did!
amosito 02-25-2008, 07:12 PM I’m going to throw the first thought I had out here just to see if I’m completely off base. But anyway, after he shoved the grenade in Miles mouth, I was wondering if the chicken was him. Symbolically of course.

I don't think you're off base at all -- I thought the same thing. Ben always reminds him of his insecurities, and after he threw the plate, which I thought was the reason his hand was bleeding, he felt like a chicken, imho.
