Is it possible that Locke is in fact possessed by the Island? Lately he's acting rather extreme with his new, dictatorial leadship style, his overbearing manner. We've always known Locke to be operating under some sort of 'divine' (for lack of a better word) guidance, but was this guidance perhaps something deeper, something darker all along? Perhaps John Locke, due to his ammenabilty to coersion, was the perfect caddidate for the Island to "possess," and has always been the Island's pawn, helping to attain its goals, to protect itself, whatever.

I'm sure this is not a new idea, but discuss...

I don't know if he's so much possessed as he is going a little crazy...
Prior to his arrival to the island he was nothing, he felt useless. Now the island or jacob has given him control over his life. He feels powerful, people are/were respecting him and for him to feel like he;s losing that is making him nuts.

Great point. Isn't true that almost every character on the island seems to become more possessed/insane as time goes on? Michael, Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer, Jin, even good ol' Hugo all seem more aggressive and deceitful than when they first arrived.

True, but imagine the emotional toll being stuck on an island would take. Also true that only some are more coniving and deceitful but some of the characters have been through more and seen more. I can't say I would be myself after being stuck on an island, crashing in a plane, seeing some crazy crap go on and witness people die ya know what i mean?
