View Full Version : Anyone else hate the Daniel Faraday character ?
KRANG 02-26-2008, 10:20 PM I'm seeing alot of love on this board for Jeremy Davies's character Daniel Faraday, and it shocks me. I cannot stand this guy. I think his acting is just totally brutal. He's over doing it to the max. This is a prime example of "over-acting".
Are we supposed to think this character is "cute" ? with all his strange little manorisms. I don't find it "cute", I find it extremely annoying and over acted.
KRANG hates Faraday.
pacejunkie 02-26-2008, 10:26 PM Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but in this forum you'll hear plenty of others too. Maybe if you're lucky they'll open a Daniel forum and you can start a thread in the I'm Just Not That Into You section. Until then, I'll respectfully disagree. I love his character and I think he's a terrific actor. Not everyone finds awkwardness cute but I prefer the sweet awkward puppy dog type to the macho musclebound full of himself type so luckily there's chocolate and vanilla. :)
KRANG 02-26-2008, 10:28 PM Don't you think he's over doing it just a LITTLE ?
pacejunkie 02-26-2008, 10:56 PM No. I think there are people that really do act like that. I think he's in character.

I know people like him. I know people that are worse than him. I agree with Pace here. He is in character. And I love him :p
Liplocked 02-27-2008, 09:38 AM Dan is the man my husband brings home to dinner.
He has other names (Clive, Malcolm, Derrick, Bruce...) but it's defiantly him!
Devera 02-27-2008, 03:47 PM I know people like him. I know people that are worse than him. I agree with Pace here. He is in character.
I have to agree with Lea_Lost and Pace. Admittedly, I'm biased because I also like the character...but I also know people in real life who are like him. However, I definitely respect opposing opinions on characters!
Rosemary Bats 02-28-2008, 02:08 AM I don't think he is "cute," as I don't swing that way, but he is very intriguing, and he is certainly not over-acting it. I know people with similar mannerisms who are far more over-the-top, and they're not acting, they're just being themselves. He's playing an extreme eccentric, so you've got to expect some extreme behavior out of him.
Personally, I can't wait to delve further into his character. While he's not among my top favorites, he is genuinely interesting and a fresh new face. Maybe you'll grow to appreciate him more as this season wears on?
hakwam 02-28-2008, 02:13 AM He is probably the best freighterer (my favorite one). I find it funny how he lies (he's a horrible lier), how he does he's weired stuff, or how he can't even remember cards. At first, when I saw promotional images of him, I thought he's going to be a angry guy, however that's just Miles.
molly1977 02-28-2008, 12:03 PM I like Daniel, but that's cool that you don't...you are entitled.
Hopefully he sticks around long enough so I can post in "It's all good" about the character and, as Pace says, you can post in "I'm not that into you".
Daniel reminds me of one of my Chemistry professors in college. He was scatty, didn't have social grace, would get entranced by something happening around him and not pay attention to the people in a room. Like our Daniel Faraday.
ladyspur 02-29-2008, 11:15 AM I wouldn't say I hate Faraday. I just don't understand his character yet. :drowsy:
Otherwise, he's on this show for a reason.
gutsdozer 03-03-2008, 03:52 AM I don't get where the overacting comes in...he's one of the most natural-acting people on the show.
Maybe that's what throws you off, you're used to 3 seasons of Hollywood people acting dramatically and then you get someone who talks like a real person and it seems weird in contrast. I don't know, just throwing an idea out there, because otherwise I can't see how anyone could say he actually stands out as being over the top, especially compared to some of the other cast.
miles a go go 03-03-2008, 09:40 AM I'd have to agree with the above statement--he seems the most normal out of all of them. He's obviously supposed to have some issues, so his awkwardness and jumpy attitude are portrayed very well.
I think people tend to like him, because out of all the Freighties, he seems the most likely to provide some answers about the island. For old-school Lostie fans, he seems like a good guy that'd be willing to help them out, so that also has people liking him.
ladyspur 03-03-2008, 01:52 PM I knew he was on this show for a reason. :D

I agree, miles. He's kinda like Hurley in that he can't keep his mouth shut. That might not be good in the eyes of the freighter people, but certainly good news for us!
On the acting front, I think he's doing a great job of portraying Daniel. I had no idea what to expect when we he first asked, "Are you Jack?" He definitely seemed menacing at that point but we quickly warmed up to him once we were given a broader view.
Puddin Tame 03-03-2008, 08:49 PM I come down in the anti-Faraday camp.
What with his frequently furrowed brow, his gesticulations and his general appearance calling to mind the result of some sort of unholy union between Doogie Howser and Crispin Glover, the guy's getting on my nerves.
Sawyerluver 03-04-2008, 08:14 PM I really like Dan too. I think Jeremy Davies is doing an excellent job potraying an obsessed, Time Traveling ,eccentric Professor of Physics.
I think the Lost producers did an amazing job choosing 4 new characters as they are all unique. And I love how they all 4 seem to have a hidden agenda yet working together.
engulfthemanatee 03-10-2008, 04:10 PM If anyone is guilty of overacting on LOST, it's Jack. :D Lucky for us, it works for the character.
I love the Dan character. I find his characterization of an eccentric quite convincing and realistic. He really breathes life into the character. I can see how one would think it's overacting though.
Surferdervish 03-14-2008, 05:02 PM The only thing I'll say against Faraday is that I've noticed that his...inflections...and the way he...strings out his sentences....can be somewhat...redundant?
But I think it works for the character. And I've seen Jeremy Davies knock it out of the park with some very different sorts of characters, so I'm sure it's intentional.

I like him but this made me laugh!!!

I love that about him.
adam8023 03-26-2008, 05:09 PM I'm not crazy about him; nor do I hate him, but he is too dull.
Faraday - the best!!! Like all new characters are. They chose actors who are realy special!
adam8023 03-28-2008, 11:26 AM He bores me.
Lea_Lost 03-29-2008, 04:16 AM He bores me.
He ain't the "belle of the ball". Of course he does :D
:p
