Not sure how relevent this is to the show but.....

In the movie 'Dodgeball', there is a scene at the very end, were they are presented with a treasure chest full of money for winning the game.... on the side of the treasure chest the words 'Deus Ex Machina' are printed!

Oooooooooohhhhhhhh, now you've done it. Solved the mystery and spoiled the show for all of us. The big character death we've been hearing about all year--and maybe even the cause of the plane crash--was due to a tragic dodgeball mishap! Boom, smack, crack...and we'll have more carnage than we'll see on Carnivale. ;) Nice detective work there!

deus ex machina

(Latin, 'god from the machinery')
A device in Greek theatre in which problems were resolved at the end of a play by the intervention of a god who was apparently brought down from Olympus.

The money would be their "god" that resolves the problems

There was an episode of X-files named Deus Ex Machina. I know totally random but just something I remembered.

i found a website that said:

deus ex ma·chi·na

1. In Greek and Roman drama, a god lowered by stage machinery to resolve a plot or extricate the protagonist from a difficult situation.
2. An unexpected, artificial, or improbable character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot.
3. A person or event that provides a sudden and unexpected solution to a difficulty.

so it seems as if they will introduce a new charrie or have one of the main charries be 'god like' or help them in a drastic way. my guess it that it is Locke

I noticed that, too! I watched it for the first time about a week ago, and was wondering about it, too.

The Sabato Jr. show called Tribes, that is similar to Lost, had a female character find gold coins ,from the Japanese during the war, in a CAVE. Then pirates came to steal it?

Like the loser I am... I bought and am watching all three Matrix movies, while looking them up on the imdb (now its been a good two years snice I've seen the Matrix: Reolutions)... but I am pretty sure that the huge machine thing at the end is "Dues Ex Machina" as it is credited on IMDB, I also found that a little weird. And then as I was getting ready to post this... Niobe goes and says, "Don't tell me what I can or can not do..." or something like that.

I just thought it was kinda funny.

there's something about deus ex machina in Donnie Darko, too. I think in that the teacher said it meant 'our savior' or something like that

Way off subject but I was in a dodgeball league the past couple of months. Sounds corny but it was actually a lot of fun. We went undefeated and took home the 2005 Dodgeball Championship trophies. Really corny but out of the 50 trophies I recieved over my 25 years, it was by far the coolest ;D

As for the Matrix post.... Harold P. also happens to be in those movies...... *ponders*

I've noticed that stuff from the actors' previous works has made its way in.... Dom and "the moth" ( the one that talks to the eagles) and Jorge with the drug dealer reference. and now some possible matrix. makes you go "hrmph"
