Many of my opinions of formerly favorite characters and formerly disliked characters have changed dramatically over 3+ seasons now. I was curious as to how people saw the charactesr changing and how their opinions about the changes affected their like/ dislike toward the character.

After season 1 I would have ranked my top 7, with 1 being the best as

1-Hurley
2-Kate
3-Charlie
4-Claire
5-Locke
6-Boone
7-Sun

Now, I have seriously changed that

1-Hurley (well some things won't change)
2-Charlie
3-Sayid
4-Desmond
5-Jin
6-Locke
7-Sawyer

Anyone else notice a change in theeir fave characters?

I have changed my opinions a little also, Molly. Kate has moved off my list entirely. She is too changeable, too ill-defined, too fickle. Jack has begun to be more bearable to me. He seems less bossy and condescending this season. And I like the way he is with Juliet. But he still is at the bottom of my list of favorites (which is still an improvement because he has never been on my list of favorites). Hurley never goes away for me either. He is the heart of the Losties, the everyman, the sweetest and nicest one. I have loved him since day one. Locke was my complete favorite in season one. I was nuts for him, thought he was the coolest one of all. Now he's slid down a couple of notches--he's a little wacky, but I still have faith he'll come through in the end and he is always interesting to watch. I love, love, love Sawyer--always have always will--he will always be my number one man--he's gorgeous, he's sexy, he's snarky and he's grown more than any other character, imo. The triangle should just die so he can be more than just the eye candy of the show. He has proven he has the acting chops to do more. Sayid is further up my list than he used to be. He is just so cool and interesting. Juliet and Ben are up there too. They are so layered and fascinating. Ben can go from scary to funny to kind of endearing all in one show. Juliet, besides being almost breathtakingly beautiful, is mature and intelligent and strong. I love her.

Jin and Sun are still likeable and are almost off my radar--and Claire? She's cute and I don't dislike her, but she just doesn't do it for me anymore. So, I guess my list of top favorites now would read--

2. Hurley
3. Locke
4. Sayid
5. Ben and Juliet (never can decide which one I like more)

Claire and Shannon would also have been high up. Personally I've never been a big fan of the Triangle trio but I still liked their characters in S3. I really liked all the characters in S1.

I wouldn't say my love for Sayid has diminished only that my love for Charlie and Desmond rocketted in S3. Sayid has been my favourite so far in S4 but I don't think any character is ever gonna overtake Charlie for me now.

Sun's development has been disappointing since her very powerful role in S1. I actually like Jin more than Sun now. Locke has been the biggest let down for me. I miss the cool wise mentor Locke from S1.

Locke is still number 1, despite all. Jack is now completely in the dust, as is Kate. None of the female characters made the list, actually... and as much as everyone loves Desmond (and he is easy on the eyes), he still seems like an accessory to me, not like a main character. Can't explain why, really.

Hoping to add Frank Lapidus soon...he may supplant Sayid, depending on how the season goes.

I have two sets of Favorites. One based purely on how interesting (rather than likeable) and how important to the overal story I consider them. The second ranks how emotionally invested I am in them.

They haven't changed much since season one come to think of it.

The characters towards the bottom (Kate, Jack, Juliet, Locke) ...they're characters I sorta kinda like but I'm not sure where to place them.

Locke and Claire just don't meet the S4 list for me. Locke wouldn't make the S2.

Ack!!! I put up this post too early. Sun totally would be in my top if I had just waited a day. Possibly replacing Saywer or Locke, not sure which one, but she has really moved on back into the top.

I can't stand what they did to Claire's character and I loved her and Charlie together (they were so sweet! The invisible peanut butter!), but then that kind of fell apart when they decided to mess with both of their characters... and then Charlie is also no longer around sooo... yeah.

Hurley's still pretty awesome. Jin kind of blended into the background for me during season 1, which seemed to focus more on Sun than him, but now he's adorable with his English and his clear devotion to Sun. I still wish they would focus more on him than her sometimes...

Locke got a little too crazy and a little too whiny and pushes too many buttons. Before it seemed like he was just kind of mystic and then now he seems crazy. I like Sawyer even more now that he seems more like a well-rounded character. And then Juliet and Ben are awesome, of course.

Man, those guys are my constants too. S4 makes my nosebleed without Charlie.

Another weird shift in opinion...I've never been a big fan of Jack or Sawyer, BUT in S1 I thought Jack was a nicer guy but Sawyer was more interesting. Now I think the opposite. Jack is dark but interesting. Sawyer is nicer but dull.

I've also completely switched on Jin/Sun. At first I was much more sympathetic towards Sun in their relationship. But since S3 I've found I care more for Jin.

I'm also finding when I rewatch S1 Boone and Shannon aren't annoying at all. They are actually really funny and refreshing characters. I didn't appreciate them at the time.
