Were people sad about Karl dying in this episode? I know Danielle being hit impacted people a lot more, but I was wondering what people's feelings were about Karl, especially since he is most definitely gone.

It actually kind of makes me mad at Alex....I'm in the Ben did it camp and Alex should know by now what her dad can do...she should not have gone...Actually, I'm mad at all of them...they all know what a freak Ben is...why didn't they just go to the beach? We all know Jack would have protected them...

I was happy they were both killed. Too many characters spoil the soup... uh show.

Wasn't a great character but you have to feel sorry for him as one of the few (the only, apart from Aaron?) true innocents on the island.

I did feel bad that he died. He did try and help the Losties, in previous episodes.

TPTB must have their reasons, but Im sorry that he was killed.

It would be *shrug* enough if it wasn't eclipsed by Rousseau's death.

Meh. We never really got to know him. I would've liked a little more history to really care, like where did he come from and such other than he was an orphan and is shtooping Bens daughter.

It was sad, he was a 16 year old kid(assuming he aged normally) and as far as we know never left the island. Killing him was smart on the part of the writers, if the freighties did kill him it makes them seem evil because Karl always tried to help the losties when he could from his first appearance. If Ben did orchestrate the shooting(a scenario I'm doubtful of), it creates a future conflict down the line. Alex's feelings towards her father are complicated, how much would she hate him if the people that come out of the weeds are others?

I wanted to find out more about him. Now he seems like a tool to make Alex do something or other. I am sad to see him die, surprised more than anything. My main thought is that I hope they have a good storyline planned for it. Hopefully it will lead to something awesome, making the death a good plot device.

I don't think he had a lot more to offer to the storyline......and he knew that Ben would kill him sooner or later from since he escaped with Sawyer and Kate in that boat

I did a little dance of joy. :p OK, not really, but I'm not broken up about it. He's always annoyed me and the new emo hair and pin stripped shirt didn't help.

Hate to see anyone on Lost die and leave the show. I hope the young man does well post-Lost.

I'm neutral on Karl's death. He could have been interesting, but they hadn't really developed him to be anything other than Alex's boyfriend that Ben didn't like.

I liked Karl because of his scenes with Sawyer, that's it. I have no interest in the whole Karl/Alex thing. I don't really care that he's gone.

I felt bad for Alex. Karl was kind of a dull character, but I was curious who his parents were & how he got there. Guess we'll never know.

Didnt want him to die. I wanted to see him and Alex become closer.
Once again, LOVE does NOT work on the island, except for Bernard/Rose & Jin/Sun.

I wanted to see a Karl flashback. Seeing how he ended up on the Island would have been interesting. I think his character was underdeveloped. You gotta think, who were his parents and what happened to them?

Now that the Losties are flaking out over each other, the desperate love triangles, and the introduction of some newbies, i.e. the freighters, we could have used more back story of the minor characters to fill out the storyline.


I'll miss Karl.

I wasn't attached to the character or anything, but it is getting really depressing to see the good guys repeatedly getting killed off. The character of Ben is brilliant, but anyone who believes that he is actually a "good" guy is an idiot and anyone on the island who continues to fall for his shennagins kind of has it coming. Too bad Karl realized that too late.

Okay, why is there not a choice that reads:

* I don't believe that Karl is necessarily dead yet.

Why is it that everyone is so completely ready to have Karl dead and in his grave. From past experience we've seen that unless one is buried in the sand, he or she may still be alive. And also from past experience we've seen how even what seemed to be solid gold hearsay from TPTB about characters and plotlines has turned out to be in error.

I say: it's too early to conclusively state that Karl is dead with 100% accuracy.

Yes, I'm a little upset he was killed. Since they wiped out Others left and right last season, I want to keep a few of the prominent ones around, even if he is kind of an anti-Other. We're left with Juliet, Alex, Ben, and Alpert. Cindy, the kids, the Sheriff, etc. don't really count for me since they rarely show up.

I yelled, "KAAARL!" really loud. Really, what was the point of it? To show that the island hates romance that isn't the of the Rambo or Jack/Kate/Juliet/Sawyer kind?

yes that had their reasons. The actor who played Karl had an obligation to a Broadway play he signed up for and couldn't continue filming. You give TPTB too much credit. This was a business decision, not a well thought out idea by the writers. I am sure that if the play is a flop "the Island" will find a way to bring Karl back to life.

Karl never really grew on me, but I do feel sad for Alex. Seeing her boyfriend and mother die like that, :( ouch

I felt a little bad. Mostly for Alex, but not so much for Karl...I mean...its a sad way to go. I didnt really see Karl that much to develop any attachment to him. So it was...oh well, too bad.

The only thing that interested me about Karl:
1.) Who are/were his parents?
2.) If Alex is pregnant.

That is all.

I was shocked by his murder, and I feel sadness and regret for the loss of a kind, sweet boy -- but I wasn't particularly invested him as a character.

I'm only sad about the fact that I want to know where he came from.

Could he have been Harper and Goodwin's son?

Sure I'm sad about the actor, but he said in a recent interview that the writers knew he'd die...and with his upcoming job the timing seemed right...and he acknowledged the fact that people do have recurring bits so we may see some more of him. What a cool acting job to have on your resume, even as a minor character though!

As for the character, I never felt any ties to him. It will be interesting to see who/what was behind the ambush so we can see what Alex's motivations will be from this point on!

I liked Karl, his scenes with Sawyer, and would've liked seeing some history, but I think his death serves the story just fine. It's motivation for us to care more about Alex and hate Ben more (assuming that's who ambushed them). I like to think Ben is that crazy that he would kill Juliet's lover because Juliet belongs to him and he's doing the same to Alex. He didn't want to share her either.

Now Danielle's death? Arg! I hate that she was sacrificed for us to hate Ben all the more. I hope she's not dead. I really wanted to see more of her.

Poor Karl.

I feel a little more upset for Alex, the man she loved is dead and possibly her mother who she just met. She can't seem to catch a break can she.

I'm not too sad about Karl. I think that it's because we never knew much about the character, and only saw him a few times. I feel bad for Alex though.

I liked the kid well enough but never really got invested in the character so don't really care that he's gone. I truly hope Danielle is not gone though.

Has they island lost its healing properties or are they selective? I don't understand why Mikhail keeps popping back up like the Terminator but people like Naomi and Karl just die.

I am sad for Alex but I was not invested enough in him. I guess it is better that it was him than any of our regulars. I am more sad about the prospect of Danielle being dead.

RIP Karl. Your character did nothing for me and I can't say I'm sad to see you go.

Just something to consider with the whole Ben set them up to be killed theoryDark's site posted an interview Blake Bashoff did with Kristin from E where he said they shot a scene where snipers in jungle camouflage were seen emerging from the jungle after the shooting.
Don't know if that answers anything but its just something to consider.

OK I honestly can't belive that so many people were indifferent about Karl!! It's true he hasn't gotten much screen time, but his character held a lot of appeal to me for many reasons. The actor is super-cute, and the character was always very intruiging.

Even if I didn't find him attractive or intruiging, I would still be devestated we lost him because we could have gotten answers through him about the brainwashing room. With him dead, I doubt we'll revisit that little plotline, and we're left to make assumptions about the room.

Also... we still don't know anything about his roots! Where did this guy come from?? He hadn't heard of the Brady Bunch, so it makes me think most of his life was on the island. But we don't know who his parents are... and we assume people can't currently have kids on the island... so he must have been conceived off-island, right?

And the Karl/Alex love story... I always enjoyed it. Remember the season 3 scene where Karl is looking up into the stars, and Alex is on the boat with the others also looking up at the stars... Excuse me while I cry myself to sleep :)

Just some info for everyone... the actor who plays Karl signed on to a 6 month broadway show in New York. When he told the writers this, that's when they brainstormed how he would be killed off. They did, however, always plan for him to die at some point, but just not this soon. [[got this info from the Kristin interview referenced above]].

Siiiiggghhhh. I was honestly very sad about Karl dying.. almost disturbed. I will feel a void in the show, and am saddened that we probably won't revisit his past. Any other Karl lovers out there wanna mourn with me??
