I wondered this too, my best guess is shark bait. It isn't his body we have seen.

He would not have had any money- I doubt he had a "real job" so maybe he worked got paid under the table at a restaurant, loading dock, moving company, etc or any type of day labor. He wouldn't have had access to any of his own savings- maybe his mom gave him money.

I definitely think he DID tell Walt which is why Walt is traumatized and won't see him. He didn't really treat Walt like a son- more like a friend - he overburdened a nine year old.

I don't think Danielle is dead and Carl- Ben did not want Alex to get pg(if he did it) if it was Widmore's people- only one was needed to get info from and Alex looked the least threatening.
