I know on a show like Lost it is always possible that nothing is what it seems, so anything they seem to be setting up could turn out to be something else when its shown in a different context, with more information.

So is anyone else really bothered by the whole "The Island won't let you die.." thing. There is always fate, but not being able to change your destiny is just hugely depressing.

I still hold out hope that when TPTB say the future isn't going to change what they mean is that the Flash Forwards we've seen won't be changed by any future episodes. That way what we're watching doesn't become moot/meaningless at any point. And NOT that the Island / Fate is an immutable force negating the characters' ability to control their own fate. Meet Kevin Johnson suggests the Island has some outside control over people or chance. But that doesn't have to mean it's impossible to overcome.

Any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions?.

I'm with you. I always viewed Walt and Hurley as changers of chance. Walt can't make a bird fly into a window, but if he thinks about it hard enough, the chance that a bird will fly into a window is dramatically increased. I think the island does this also. If Michael really wants to kill himself, he can find a way, but the island will increase the odds of it not happening until he has fulfilled some sort of task seen fit by Jacob/ the island.

We shall see. I like when we learn things that alter old episodes. Now Locke's back breaking fall (past) seems alot more likely and the car accident to stop Jack from killing himself (future) makes sense.

I love this show.

I do NOT love the show anymore...for this reason.

I'm sorry that you feel this way, but I am excited that the concept of fate is finally being brought back as a main element of the show.
