Ok I could be miles away here and I know it sounds stupid but just watched the episode so stick with me.

1. Widmore says Ben took the island from him.
2. It is intimated that Ben cant kill Widmore.

Cant quite get my head around why ben simply cant kill widmore. There is some over-riding factor here which links them both. What if, many years ago ben and widmore created the island or discovered the island together. They have then managed to survive there for hundreds of years by transferring between different bodies to prolong their life. Maybe they have been the same entity around for years just in different forms.

Children, have one way or another always been pretty central to the story, is it that because they cant be born on the island, ie they cant continue to exist within themselves as a group, they need to bring fresh resources to the place.

Possible link or more likely garbage. Just a thought anyway

I don't think the writers would bring the immortal theory, but you never know.

They could be making it like Paradise Lost with Jehova & Satan. However, I doubt they'd make Lost literally that way, just metaphorically.

Although I've entertained the idea that Widmore is an old pirate who somehow never ages, I doubt that Ben is older than when he was shown to be born in the Oregon forest when his mother died in childbirth.
