View Full Version : Dharma, Food drops and Others.
JoeyC 04-29-2008, 11:53 PM It dawned on me that something fishy is going on....
Why would Dharma continue dropping food and supplies to the island if their people have been killed?
Argument could be that - "Dharma doesnt know their people are dead; the Hostiles have taken over and continue to tell Dharma that everything's okay there."
However....
A) Dharma, as a company, wouldnt build up that infrastructure on that island without going back to see what kind of progress they're making. Imagine building a mansion on a hill, sending people to live there... wouldn't you go back at least once or twice to make sure its all okay?
B) If Widmore did want the island back, he could easily, at the blink of an eye, stop all Dharma communications [including food drops, etc.] The fact that the Hostiles can easily go back/forth between the island and mainland seems fishy. Someone has to foot the bill, and its definately Dharma.
Either Widmore just wants POWER back of the island [meaning, taking Ben's place of power], or... I have no clue. But something's not right about a company thats "trying to save the world through the Valenzetti equation", never getting the problem solved, but keep sending people out there.
Perhaps now that the signal has been blocked, Dharma will believe that the equation is solved and finally come back? Opinions?

What if due to the time difference when crossing the "barrier" around the island they decided to make all the food drops at the same time, they will just arrive on the island periodically. What I mean is that they calculated where to drop the packages so that they will actually show up every few months or so. They could have done this many years in advance and it would accomplish multiple things. The cost would be significantly less than making frequent trips to drop off good. Since they had communication with the outside world, they probably figure if anything went wrong they would have been notified. The orientation video revealed in the Sri Lanka video made it seem like Hanso had a very "hands-off" approach to the Initiative. What I mean is that they sent these people to live on the island for years and the only way to know the progress of the experiments was the broadcast. We saw in Enter-77 that there was a method for notifying the main land of an incursion, but I would guess that this never happened.
Now, I realize Danielle changed the broadcast 16 years ago, but under this theory the food drops were already delivered, they just haven't all arrived yet. Hanso likely became aware that something wasn't right when Danielle changed the broadcast and started to look for the island. However, Ben and his people had taken measures to prevent people from finding the island. This is just one possibility, but it's the one I'm leaning toward right now.
LudvikFeuerbak 04-30-2008, 05:51 PM The food drops (and Juliet etc.) came onto the Island the same way Ben got off: via a "Wormhole".
The parachute, and the submarine is nothing more than camouflage.
JoeyC 04-30-2008, 08:18 PM I can see where most of the thoughts come from. However, I'm a little confused about how they could have the drops just lingering about for months at a time. Even at a few months, the Others [for lack of better words] have obviously had control of the island for quite some time. Possibly [and probably] way before their acquisition of Danielle. Which means that someone out at Dharma would have known something was up.
With recent rumors going around that "the freighties won't be doing the rescuing it would seem that, in my opinion, someone has been notified at Dharma and now the actual Dharma folks could possibly come back. Whose to say.
Goldfoot 04-30-2008, 08:33 PM I guess I'll try another way to explain this. You know how the helicopter took of and made a 20ish minute flight, yet the people on board appeared to be gone for a day and a half? We were lead to believe this was because they strayed from the specific bearing (angle) Daniel told Frank to follow. Now imagine this problem happens due to a "barrier" that surrounds the island, even from above. Now imagine that Hanso figured out what angles to drop these packages at so that they will "lag" for however long they need to.
I can't explain to you what happens during that time, I just know that the passage of time is experienced differently by those in the event, and those not.
Also, the spoiler tags need []s, not <>s.
JoeyC 05-01-2008, 12:13 AM My apologies for that.
Well we are all entitled to our opinions, and the one you added only makes this show funner to speculate about, cos in the end we could all be wrong.
I'm just curious as to why nobody of power ever goes back to the island, once again my theory that Widmore is behind Dharma in some way or another is starting to get the best of me.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's a good question and definitely one of the ones I've pondered. The whole Dharma aspect of the show is very intriguing to me. I'm not saying what I said has to be right, but it makes the most sense to me out of anything I could come up with or read about.
