When I heard the beeping of the smoke detector Jack finally disabled, all I could think of was life lines and a connections to hospital patients in critical conditions. Jack asking for a script for seditives; telling Hurley to take his medicine; the drugs in the operating room when Jack is being operated on...all connections to a 'state of mind'. More confusion! Dream state for the O6? (Please tell me the last epi of Lost isn't everyone waking up in a hospital room!)

Bri, definitely a running theme in this episode, and apparently a running theme for both Jack and Hurley in particular (drugs drugs drugs). The beeping made me think of a life line too....
But I definitely don't think they all end up in Cuckoo's Nest. Why the emphasis in this episode though?.... good question that I need to think about more.

I also thought it was a heart monitor. But I also felt it would lead to his dad in a room.

Surely I wasn't the only one who picked up on the importance of the smoke detector going off right before Christian appeared? Like as in... Smokezilla?
Because the sequence had a quietness to it, that I knew it was gonna end with Christian appearing somehow. Then when Jack got up on the table to change the battery, it hit me -- smoke. I said to myself, "Niiiice..." That was a pretty sly reference by the writers.

But it wasn't going off like it would if it detected smoke. It was signaling a low battery.
