OK, I am starting this thread because we as a forum have discussed Charlie/Dom and Jack/Matt's tattoos quite a bit and I was wondering what kinds of tattoos we may have.

So if you have a tattoo or want one, or whatever please share.

I currently have a tattoo of a rose on my right shoulder blade.
I want to get a tree frog on my right ankle, and when I do I'll share if this thread is still alive when I get it. ;)

Lemme see..

I have a tribal work turtle on my right shoulder blade/back. Got it when I was 19...
Since this summer - On my left outside ankle I have a small purple heart with an empty Celtic "t" (like a keyhole in a lock) that I got for 20 bucks to help my tattooing friend demo her work at a biker fundraiser for an animal shelter!

LMAO!

I like this topic...

Well I don't have one yet, but I plan on it as soon as Blayne gets done drawing it. She's an artist friend from LJ. It's going to be Merry and Pippin in Treebeard. :D

I don't have one, so I guess I don't belong to the board. But still had to leave a post. :)
I just don't have any desire to have something on my body that will never be erased. What if I get sick and tired of the image? -> too bad, will have to wait for new techniques of getting it off my body. And then, it is always such a trouble if you have to go somewhere nice and cover it up...
No, thank you, just no desire for a tattoo.

aside: Is there anyone else who doesn't have one and doesn't want one? ... ... ... Or am I alone here? :dizzy:

Kinda... but then again, Jack's tattoos aren't a sign of anything... or ARE they?????

Mine are pretty classical in terms of the design, simple lines, nothing extreme.

Jack's tattoos are actually Matthew Fox's tattoos...so I doubt we'll see anything significant about them...same with Dominic Monaghans.
BTW...I adore your website. I spent like 2 hours over there the other night just reading your stories and looking at the pictures and everything and wow. Wish I had the guts to put myself out there like that. Awesome.

Oh, what an interesting topic! I have one tattoo, a dolphin on my left foot. I've had it nearly 10 years. I want to get another on the back of my right ankle (on the Achilles tendon part) but I can't decide what I want. It would have to be a vertical design...

I don't have one YET, but I've got a few in the planning stages...

the first one I think I'm going to get is an "origin of love" tattoo from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the one from the very end of the movie, on my hip

I also want to get a Jewish symbol... either a Star of David on my chest (I have a Star of David necklace I wear 24/7 and I was thinking of having it inked onto my sternum, where the necklace falls, or just over my heart) or a Kabbalah tree of life on the inside of my arm, with my name in Hebrew at the bottom by my wrist

and, this is just a goofy idea but I REALLY want to do it someday... "Remember Sammy Jankis" on the back of my left hand. MEGA BONUS POINTS to anyone who knows what that's from!!

Leonard is Sammy? Sammy is Leonard? Could it simply be conditioning?

As to the topic, I don't have any tattoos, but not for lack of want. I'd like a celtic knot in the small of my back, but I'm scared to get one. The fear makes no sense to me because I'm not afraid of needles (I have my tongue and navel pierced) and I'm not really afraid of pain.

As soon as I turn 18 I'm running to the tattoo parlor (seriously, I'll be hanging outside before it's even open) and getting lisse', the Elvish word for sweet. I can't decide the location, but I'm thinking maybe the nape of my neck.

Ok ~ so back to tattoos. *I almost got one when I was in Hawaii, I wanted something to remember the trip, but my friend wouldn't let me. *Plus, I'd had a few Bahama Mama's or something like that and so they wouldn't tat me anyway. *I love to see peoples tat's tho. *So cool!

I have only one tattoo at the moment. My plan is to get a few more: eight stars on my feet (one for each neice and nephew); the Cheshire cat on my back; and possibly an angel or shark design on my back.

I'm rather picky about where on my body the tattoos get placed, so that's kind of limited the number I can have. Heh.

Haven't really felt inspired to get anything permanent done, but I do like henna tattoos. You can get interesting designs, if it's in the right place I can do a simple one myself, and they're gone by the time I'm tired of them. :)

sorry about that Kate-I really love those pretty dart frogs, it's more about the colors than anything, the fact that most of them are too cute in pictures doesn't help either. I have a beautiful pic of a tropical tree frog and i'd like to get another tattoo of it on the other side.
i think i would stop there two is enough for me.

I have 3, one under my belly button, it's a long garland of leaves with a Pisces symbol right underneath my belly button. I have two in the small of my back that I got when I was 17, ones a cross with the sign of the fish, and one's a Kanji symbol. (I like to think I got it in that area, and that design before it got popular :lol2:)

I don't regret my back tattoos, but the quality of them isn't what it should be so I'll get them covered sometime or another. Ideally, with unlimited resources (time and money) I would have my entire back covered...still might. I want a BIG red dragon over a majority of it.

That's the way I feel about my tattoo. I got it when I graduated high school (10 years ago!) and at the time I'd never seen or heard of anyone w/ a tattoo on their foot. Now I've heard lots of people have them on their feet, even Dom! I'm such a trendsetter! *lol*

Katejones- I got my back tattoos about 7 years ago!
I've also had my belly button pierced for 10 years and my tongue pierced for 8! (Yep, that would be 14 and 16 years old ;D)

And just a sidenote for anyone thinking it, I've already had a baby and my tattoo is fine! I get it a lot of comments about belly tattoos...

I want one, but never have settled on just the right frog to get as a tattoo and where to put it.
So may still take the plunge, I was thinking on the ankle but was told that hurts extra.

Any advice from you more experienced people.
Thanks,

Cheshyre
01-25-2005, 04:01 PM
Kermeeet...

Any place on bone is painful (ankle area, shoulder blades, chest), as is the inside of the arm or inside of the thigh. However, everyone has a different pain tolerance so some hurt worse than others (I got mind on my left shoulder blade and fell asleep during it...but I'm really weird, too).

It's also advised that women not get tattoos on their stomachs or breasts because those areas tend to change the most over time and can distort the tattoo.

Be sure you go to a place with a good reputation. Ask about cleanliness, check out the place where the tattoos are done for yourself, and also ask about their suggested method of taking care of a tattoo before you get inked. You want a place that not only does good work, but does careful, safe work and that knows their stuff on hygiene and taking care of tats.

Better safe than sorry. :)

Kermeet- Fatty areas are supposed to be more painful too. You know Bradley Nowell of Sublime? He wanted that tattoo across his gut but the artist wouldn't do it because he said it would hurt too much. (or so the story says)

The one I got on my stomach hurt more than any others, I almost had to ask for a break.

3 Tats currently.

1st - Unicorn on left shoulder blade. Not one of those pansy, fluffy, floral types either, but a unicorn that looks like it knows how to use it's horn to protect itself. This was my first, and I love unicorns, but I was very picky on the artwork and brought my own image in. It's the basic black (that turns green over time) on my skin, strong bold lines. I had him add a little bit of red and orange to the mane, forelock and tail in reference to Piers Anthony's unicorns in the Blue Adept series of books.

2nd - Irish Triskele. I was going to get a Claddagh design on my arm (traditional Irish ring with two hands, holding a heart, with a crown on top of the heart) and have the ring around the arm be a celtic border design. But to make it fit the arm, it had to be larger than ring sized, and I'm not overly fond of hearts, so I changed the heard to a triangular Triskele. But to get the celtic swirls of the design to look good, it was enlarged to a point that would put the two hands holding it off to the side, making it silly to turn into a Claddagh. I also got it so high on my arm that it's up at the top of the shoulder practically, and can only be seen with tank tops, or really short sleeved t-shirts. It's just the basic black (that turns green) but with some excellect subtle shadings. The artist who did my 2nd and 3rd tattoos was really good on the Art Work scale. The first guy was all into bold lines, but it worked for that first tattoo.

3rd - This one is a dragon, but it's not just any dragon. It's a direct copy of a book cover by Melanie Rawn, one of her Sunrunner's novels, can't remember the exact title at the moment. But the artwork is by Michael Whelan, only I had the tattoo artist excise the wizard out, as I only wanted the dragon. That means he had to fill in the blanks because the wizard he removed stands directly in front of the dragon, so he had to add back in the full belly and the rock the dragon is crawling around on. It's an ultra cool image, and he did a lot of very subtle shading. It's then colored in reds, yellows and oranges. A lot of people think it's not finished, that I didn't get it fully colored because there is so much subtely to the work. But it's just how it is on the book cover, and when I point that out, people realize it. I guess they are just used to seeing tattoos with bold colors and lines, not subtlety and artwork.

As for what to look for when getting a tattoo, that's easy. The suggestion to check out the place for it's hygiene guidlines is a very good suggestion. Also, look at the various artist's work, to get a feel for who works more with bold lines or subtle lines, who specializes in certain types of tats, etc. Also, when thinking of a design, I always like to bring my own design in, which I did all three times. Buying based on designs on the wall or in a book work for the person who decides to get a tattoo to commemorate a visit someplace, but a tattoo should be something personal to you. After all, it's going to be with you forever, so make sure you like the design before getting it.

After the above three, I was going to get a King Arthur storyline on my back. It was going to be in two parts. First, a Young Arthur first pulling the sword from the stone, with Merlin behind him and the other knights bending a knee to the new king. Second, an older Arthur in a small boat, with Merlin behind him pulling the boat using a staff, and Arthur is reaching out for Excalibur, which is in the rising hand of the Lady in the Lake, and there are two swans flying low over the water behind the boat. I had the designs and artwork all set up for these. I wanted to get them in a sort of Stained Glass Window style, where they'd each be on one half of my lower back, and surrounded by a Celtic boarder, to look like two halves of an illustrated book or something. The problem being that it was going to be a really expensive endeavor, and I wanted to get them all done at once, or at least, over the course of a few months, since that would have required some major needle work. But I ran out of money at the time, misplaced some of the artwork, and have not really had time or money to revisit the idea.

But, I am now thinking of getting some sort of LOTR imagery. Possibly either the door to the Mines of Moria, which has that wonderful archway, the two twining trees, the stars, anvil and hammer of Durin, the Elvish writing, etc. or a Standard of Gondor, with the White Tree, seven stars overhead, and the Winged crown. So, if I can come up with the right images, I just may go for one, or both, of these.

I have Piercings the normal ear ones and Industreal in my right ear and a lip ring on the left side of my lower lip, I want to get a tattoo but I need to know which one I am going to get first, the stag skull and cross bones on the back of neck or the redwood tree out line on my wrist.

a Standard of Gondor, with the White Tree, seven stars overhead, and the Winged crown.

I'm not even a big LOTR fan (I like the movies and all but I'm not part of the fandom or anything) and I thought that this would make a beautiful tattoo. I noticed it mainly during Viggo's interviews on the ROTK EE and thought it was just a really beautiful image. :)
