This has to the be the first time this season that we have seen this many others in one place. To be honest I would rather be with them then anywhere else right now. Does this mean that Sayid and Kate are going to see the Temple.

I hope so. I have no idea where they are going, though, or if Richard is working in some way with Ben. I don't understand how the O6 are all going to end up in the same place together.

I got a kick out of Ben's comment to Hurley about the 15 year old crackers. Cracker stash from the gassing of Dharma? Would that date them at 1990?

It felt like Dejavu, seeing Richard and all his people appear in the jungle like that. I agree that they are the ones who I would probably want to be with at the moment ;)

Took me back to the first season. The Others are sure a rough-looking crew. Glad to know a little better at this point who they might be (and who they definitely are not). This epi rocked!

Why would they be kicking around in their dirty clothes?
Why do they want kate and Sayid, they could have easily just shot both of them why didn't they?
Where are they all going?

Anyone else love how the Others were dressed in their dirty season 2 gear? Vintage Others. :) The Others are the wild card. I wonder if Keamy forgot about them, or if he even knows about them. They will play a huge role in the 2nd part of the finale.

I thought it was interesting that the Other's with Richard were back in the clothes we saw them in the beginning of S2 when they were taking the kids from the Tailies. What happen to the nice clothes they were wearing in Otherville? And are these the Other's we know from Otherville or are they the Hostiles from when DHARMA was there? So does that mean these are Richard's people who might be really old?

But here's the thing about The Others... I mean... MAN! They are a mysterious, creepy, almost completely ominous group. THIS, tonight, is what I think when I think about The Others. But that begs the question... If they're the real natives, and Ben was a DI'er, and Juliet was brought to the island... Then what was Mr. Friendly? I mean, he's the opposite of The Others yet was one of them. Ben and Juliet were also the opposite, as was Goodwin, Ethan, and whom else? "These" Others seem to be so much different than those that we've come to know, but not just because they're "redshirt" Others. Their silence, their group dynamics... it's just creepy (and BADASS) on a whole new level... It's as if their really in charge (and have been, even during the DI-occupying years) and Ben is just the spokesman... Anyone else get that feeling?

i definitely get the feeling that these others we saw now minus the extraneous people we have gotten to know, are the real deal. The real inhabitants of the island, and they are the ones I would want to be with on this island at the point. The fact that they put on their "other" garments signals that they mean business, w.e they are going on to do.

Yeah, we're not that lucky.

It is good to see the others though, since they dropped off for the whole season. they are taking kate and sayid to the orchid...i see a huge convergence of them and jack /sawyer meeting at the orchid.

I think the natives/hostiles including Alpert expected Ben to abandon DI and Othersville after the purge. Instead Ben tried to convince the natives to integrate the DI "improvements" upon the island into their lives. This created a fraction within the group but not an ultimate split. Some went with Ben and lived in Othersville while others remained in the forest being creepy. I think the two fractions still work together as a whole, some just chose a different lifestyle.

I think that all of these others are dead people. We know that Tom cannot die, and Richard never ages. I think these are all dead people that have somehow materialized on the island. When the two little children from the back of the plane were captured by the others, I had a feeling then that in fact they had died, and we were seeing their spirits being captured by the others. I think the same happened with Claire when she just walked off. And how many times did the russian guy die?

I was not cheering. The others have a really bad habit of using the survivors for their own ends. They certainly have no interest in helping them.

Obviously, I knew they were not going to kill Sayid and Kate, but I was not cheering for a second. These folks are far more dangerous than Keamy's group because we have no idea what they want.

Tom was killed on the beach by Sawyer after Hurley ran the Dharma van into his crew and saved Sawyer, Bernard and Jin. (Through the Looking Glass)

The best thing that could ever happen is if they go walking into Keamy's camp and Keamy's men open fire - but their guns jam or the bullets bounce off of the hostiles just like Tom had been saying to Michael about the island not letting him die! Then they turn the tables on the mercenaries.

I could not disagree more.

Yeah, we know what Keamy's group is after, and we also know that they will do whatever it takes to accomplish their mission, with total disregard for human life. Keamy will kill someone and not even bat an eye.

The Others, on the other hand... We don't know what they want, but they don't just flippantly kill people for no reason.

The Losties are still alive... are they not? If The Others were operating according to Keamy's ethics, the Losties would have all been dead a long time ago. Remember what Tom said to Jack in Season 2, "This is our Island. You live on it because we let you."

I am encouraged by this scene, because I had figured that the Losties and the Others would be fighting together against a common enemy at some point, and this seems to be it. However, I thought it would be more than just two Losties fighting alongside the others in the showdown. Maybe TNPLH P2 will provide more info.

When Ben was using the mirror to communicate, I immediately thought of the beacon scene in Return of the King. Yeah, I'm a geek. Sue me. I just imagine one of the Others running to the Temple, busting down the door to see Alpert discussing what to do next with his closest aides while the messenger screams "THE BEACONS ARE LIT!"

In a nut shell, I think Ben was signaling for backup.

Yeh, I can totally see there being two different factions - one that's dead and actually in charge and another that's comprised of mere mortals. LOL It's really cool to see this other faction again... I may have started thinking that we were gypped from the get-go...

The best thing that could ever happen is if they go walking into Keamy's camp and Keamy's men open fire - but their guns jam or the bullets bounce off of the hostiles just like Tom had been saying to Michael about the island not letting him die! Then they turn the tables on the mercenaries.

I don't think the LeftBehinds and the Others will be come life long friends and family, but it is nice to see them working together against a common enemy. And it's always great to see Richard... Nestor is amazingly good, if really, really creepy!

Noeland
05-16-2008, 08:31 AM
The others and the losties will never fight side by side. They took the guns away from Sayid and Kate and took them captive. They haven't rescued anyone, and will never rescue anyone. My feeling is they are going to send the 06 back with the lie, and tell them "If you choose to do anything other than what we tell you to do, we will kill all the rest of them." I don't think we're seeing any team ups here.

I don't think the mercs will be much of a match for the others in open combat, no. Though they do have lots of explosives, and obviously have some knowledge of the island.

But the others DO kill people, and they manipulate people into killing for them, and they kill their own for nefarious purposes too.

I'm just not so ready to stand up and cheer for the others.

I loved the return of The Others too, I've missed them this season!

They are definetly a force to be reckoned with. My guess is that they're on their way to the Orchid too, to help Ben and/or get the message Jacob gave to Locke.

I was happy to see them too, though I don't exactly trust them with Kate and Sayid. Then again, Kate and Sayid make it out just fine, so maybe there's nothing to worry about it.

Mostly, I was psyched to see Richard again on the island, as well as see their tattered wardrobe. I always wanted an explanation for those clothes, and maybe we are soon to learn why they dress that way. Certainly, there is about to be a lot of violence between them and Keamy's crew.

I agree with Trixired's musings. The first thing I thought was that these were Richard's original people, referred to as "The Hostiles" -- the original inhabitants of the island. Ben's Others dressed up in ragged clothes during S2 so that they could blend in and not be hassled by the Hostiles, which still were around after the Dharma purge. (my theory)

I think the Other-Others :eek2: are at The Temple. Richard's group marched out of the forest from "nowhere" (no time?) as if they were amassed and waiting. I think "the Hostiles" are not hostile at all. They were just protecting "their island" after they got there like everyone else after them has been doing. I believe that Richard made a pact with Ben with regards to protecting the island.

Well I was psyched to see them from a plot point of view, and they have DEFINITELY been MIA for way too long, but hey-they aren't friendly, nor are they good people! These are the guys that locked up our heroes in cages! I wouldn't trust them as far as I can spit at them.

KyleSBeaver

Let's try not to forget that these "Others" you all want to go sing songs and do trust falls with are the same people that hanged Charlie for dead, kidnapped Claire with plans to kill her after the birth, blew up the raft, shot Sawyer, kidnapped Walt, locked our heroes in cages, killed Steve (or Scott?) and terrorized the tail section of the plane.

I get that Darlton are trying to make them look like the good guys now, and maybe they appear nicer lately, but only compared to Keamy. It's ain't foolin' me.

I thought this was a big clue actually. So the last time Ben needed to use the Orchid in this way was 15 years ago?Or at least that's when the Dharma "just in case" kit was packed. The purge was 12 years ago according to Dream Horace. I can't wait to find out what funky stuff has been going on in there.

Who is up there on that mountain receiving Ben's mirrored communications? The Others, the ones that aren't playing gunny ring -around-the-rosey with Kate?

I think this might be the station that controls the weather on the lsland as well, beyond the island moving capacities it also seems to have.

Hmm..

The Others represent the political philosophy of primitive anarchy and highlights man returning to nature, thus espousing Jean Jacque Rousseau's fundamental axiom that Man is by nature good, and it is civilization that has a corrupting effect. Therefore civilization must be abandonned. Also, the moniker, the Others, is a shout out to Heidegger and the idea of Das Man.

fact: Heidegger's method for understanding Being is called the Hermeneutic Circle. The Circle was the original title of lost. Faith, Destiny, and free will are themes in Being and Time, and are major motifs of the show.

I'll bet you my sheep that we'll see a character reading Heidegger's Being and Time by the series finale--hopefully the very last episode of the series.

Kate seemed completely creeped out by Richard. I think it's safe to say that she never saw him while she was in captivity. Other than Locke I don't think any of the Losties have seen him before.

I think Ben sent them to collect Kate and Sayid for some purpose. It wasn't just a random encounter. And pretty cool that they're capable of locating someone really quickly when they want to.

The fact that The Others are now our heroes shows how skillful the writers are. Who'd have thought when Tom took Walt that we would call upon them to save the losties from an even bigger danger.
