I've been waiting for their reunion for years, and now finally!!!!!!!!

Best moment in the history of the show.

It was wonderful! I heard one of the crew say "Widmore" and then the next thing that happened was Penny appearing on the boat. What a great moment when Desmond realized it was Penny, and then she realized it was Desmond.

I cried...

I saw Sonya's name in the beginning credits, and was waiting to see her the whole episode, thinking I'd be let down, but the moment still had tears coming down my eyes.

I think I cried out "Penny!" before Des did! What a great moment and a great present from TPTB to us viewers. I got all teary...

I loved how they were almost shy with each other at first. Very real.

I was really surprised that the reunion would be this soon. I am so happy. I honestly cried harder during their phone conversation, but this was simply wonderful.

I knew it was her boat as soon as soon as I heard that guy and the Portuguese.

Wheeee!

I had chills. I have waited for this moment for so long. I wonder what's next for Des...

It was such a beautiful moment. And especially with the phone call in the Constant, it was set up perfectly. I was definitely tearing up too!

I just hope this doesn't end Desmond's run on the show!

That was definitely a well needed moment. Helped to counter act the whole Sun situation, which was terribly sad. But that seems to run through the show, one relationship is destroyed and another is repaired. Like Boone dieing while Aaron is being born.

Perfect moment, simply put. Couldn't have written it better there.

I hope we can get another moment like that down the line...;)

I really don't have any words, except that it was an amazing scene. I'm so glad that I didn't see Sonya's name in the opening credits.

Like I just said in another thread, it was so beautiful and perfect. Desmond and Penny deserve to be together after so long waiting for each other. I was in tears, and I don't easily cry at things -- perfectly written, perfectly acted... just perfect!

I thought it was so sweet and said, "That's the spectacular kiss!" I was so gald it was them and so excited to see Penny on that ship. Before they got there, I was saying, "Oh! No! It'll be Mr. Friendly and company!" I was wrong and thankfully so.

Heh - I too was thinking "It's Tom again!" what with all the time travel rumors.

What an awesome reunion. Penny rocks. And that was a spectacular kiss.

When I saw the boat, I knew it was her! I was squeeing like a schoolgirl LOL

It was everything I hoped for, Ian and Sonya deserve all the credit in the world for the most touching and tasteful, REAL reunion! Hope that in S5 their adventures are going to keep them together rather than pulling them apart.

It was sweet, but it didn't have the impact of the phone call. My twisted brain just kept thinking "when was the last time he brushed his teeth?" I am happy he's finally with her though.

 Yes, I'm happy that Des & Penny found each other.

But am I the only one who wondered why the O6 didn't stay on the boat? I mean, their trying to get rescued, what better way than to stay on a boat that can get to an island, etc? Weird.

I didn't read any spoilers about the "big kiss" but I guessed Des and Penny, though I had no idea how they would get together. When they had the Sawyer/Kate kiss, I thought, "Meh. THAT can't be the big kiss." When I saw the boat, I just thought it was a fishing boat so I didn't think of Penny right then. But then when Des and Penny saw each other, I choked up.

The only sad thing........in Des' last scene he wasn't wearing the Blue Shirt of Hotness. :sob: Hopefully he will wash it and wear it again. Maybe Penny will insist! I know I would! ;)

It was the best moment ever.
But I wonder...is Des going to have a diminished role now? His story arc basically seems complete.

Maddy
06-04-2008, 02:49 AM
No way Des gets diminished! Now that he's reached his constant Penelope, he'll be playing the big game - this time with her - to figure out the whole thing and how dad Widmore is involved.

I didn't cry like I did during the Constant (the BEST episode of Lost ever) but I was close!

I am one cold hearted b*tch as it seems. Their reunion scene did nothing for me...i always found them boring and was expecting to at least get a bit emotional with this long awaited reunion of the tortured Romeo and Juliet but.....nothing..nada...

lets just hope their common story is over and done with.

Madge

We still have to find out how Naomi had his picture and why she was looking for him. A good assumption is that Widmore was behind it so there's that for the couple to contend with.
And there's the conversation that Sun had with Widdy. When she said "We're not the only ones who left the island". I really hope she wasn't referring to Des and insinuating that she would help Widdy get to him.

That was an awesome scene indeed. :) And they both played it perfectly. That was the kiss of the series, so far, imo! Hopefully Des will be back. He's too good a character, and Cusick to good an actor!, to be let go at this point. Plus, we still need to find out why Widmore thought Ben would never find Penny!

I was so happy to see them reunited! It seems like they've been fighting to get back to each other since forever and it was a fantastic moment when Desmond spotted Penny on that boat! *sigh* Why aren't there real men in the world that are like Desmond?!!!

I just hope their togetherness and happiness last. I'd put up with less Des on the show rather than have this turn out like the Sayid-Nadia reunion (or the Danielle-Alex), both of which I'd been waiting for since season one and both of which ended tragically.

We know Penny eventually goes into hiding, and Sonya has other commitments, so she can't become a regular along with Des.

I totally agree. While the Des and Penny scene was probably my happiest Lost moment to date, I'd hate it if it turns into anohter tragic reunion a la Sayid & Nadia or Alex and Rousseau. Both those reunions were wasted opportunities for emotions I had been waiting for since season one.

This is my feeling as well. I think there's been some talk, and people think that Desmond is actually going to be the one that ends up killing Ben. Because Ben is trying to kill Widmore's daughter, which unfortunately is Penny.
Personally, if it comes down to Ben or Desmond, i'm going to pick Desmond and Penny getting a happy ending. I think they deserve it a little more.

I was really surprised that the reunion would be this soon. I am so happy. I honestly cried harder during their phone conversation, but this was simply wonderful.

I really liked the DesPenny reunion but it kind of fell a little flat for me too which was disappointing after the intense emotion of the phone call in The Constant. It would have been hard for the writers to top that scene for me though. It probably didn't help that the kiss was just lips-on-lips, like the kisses in old movies. For all the people who thought the Jack/Juliet kisses were lacking in passion, because there was no "movement", the DesPenny kiss was no different - and it should have been IMO. I mean these two people who love each other have not seen each other in eight years! Des should have gone for it! It was a sweet kiss but not THE spectacular one that Darlton hyped - unless they have incorporated DesPenny into being "another leg of the triangle." Now whether THE kiss was spectacular is a matter of opinion, but it is silly to insinuate that TPTB meant the DesPenny kiss was THE kiss. Debating personal opinions is perfectly fine. TPTB have made their personal opinion known, whether we agree with it or not.

I also worry that the reunion happened too soon in the story from a story-telling standpoint. Now with Ben's threat to kill Penny, I'm thinking this may not be the happy ending we all hope for. I hope I'm wrong though, but I can totally see Des dying to save his Penny. :frown:

Spectacular is in the eye of the beholder. I personally didn't find either kiss spectacular. Nice and/or sweet yes, but not "spectacular'.

It was a beautiful moment and i did shed a tear but the kiss did lack passion. But then again who is to say how two people who have been separated for 8 years would truly react...........I would probably squeeze him tight and never let him go, I may not neccessarily stick my tongue down his throat!!............Well, it is Desmond after all so I probably would!

I found the Skate kiss sweet and not as aesthetically pleasing as their older kisses were. And I found Sawyer's jump brave and Indiana Jones like.

I found the Des and Penny scene heartwarming and fulfilling but the kiss was not the best kiss ever. I loved how they were smiling while kissing, though. And I loved how they cradled one another's faces and spoke softly to one another. Penny asked "Are you okay" in a really sweet soft tone.

I prefer overall the Des and Penny scene in terms of showing them as a couple in love. I prefer the Skate scene in terms of the character of Sawyer.

I envisioned a slight hesitancy at first (which they did) followed by a long hug where they're sqeezing each other tight, then they release and look into each others eyes for a moment before going in for kiss - which would start slow but then build momentum as the weight of all those years apart fell off of them. The lip-on-lip action just fell a little short for me. This was supposed to be the I-never-though-I'd-see-you-again kiss, not the honey-I'm-home-from-work-and-how-was-your-day kiss. It WAS a very sweet and tender kiss, I was just expecting more from their reunion (which I wasn't expecting to happen so soon either). But like I said, the scene from The Constant is a tough act to follow, maybe too tough.

Now I just want them both to live through the end of the show.

That didn't even occur to me. I don't really see how that could be a "common interest." I don't see how she could blame him for Jin's death. I think she has to be talking about Ben.

monkeypoo
06-04-2008, 03:42 PM
I would say that Desmond is a very common interest!! He is the love of his daughters life and Widmore is not his biggest fan! It could be that Des and Penny have not had any contact with Widmore since the island in which case he would want to know their whearabouts and the circumstances in which Des made it off the island that he is desperate to locate.

Sun may not be insinuating that Des is to blame for Jins death........she may want something in return for information or may just be playing Widmore in her own game.

Oh I dont know!! I'm rambling here!!

Madge
06-04-2008, 03:44 PM
I don't think she holds a grudge against Des, but if she wants to use Widmore to get her revenge for Jin she could use him as bait. I don't know, it's a toss up. Ben and Des were both the others who got off the island. Naomi having Des' pic seems to point to Widdy looking for him, he still may be looking for him for whatever reason and for his being with Penny. It was the way she said 'We both know that we're not the only ones who left the island', could be Ben but it could be Des.

Eric815
06-04-2008, 03:56 PM
Des will be back... the clues are everywhere:

Jack says to him "See you in another life, Brother" before they part ways. (Granted this could just be perceived as a reference/homage to Desmond saying it at the stadium when he and Jack first met, but could also be a clue that Des will be back).

Ben tells Jack at the funeral home that they all have to go back to the Island. This could also mean Desmond, who was someone who left and may need to return for the Island to be "happy."

Ben also promised Widdy earlier that he was going to kill his daughter to get back for killing Alex. This is foreshadowing a Ben meeting Penny and Desmond flashforward scene to be seen later.

Awww, now I'm really worried for Desmond's life. I will not be happy if Sun ends up putting Des or Penny in harm's way, even if it's only indirectly. She'd be repeating her role as the catalyst for bad things, a la her being responsible for getting Jin mixed up with her father's shady business practices.
