Sawyer and Kate's kiss was billed as THE specacular one that's been hyped in the media, and it did not disappoint. Josh and Evi's expressions revealed all the deep emotion those two have been going through over the last three seasons. Not surprising, as IMO they have always had the most passionate kisses on the show.

But Desmond and Penny's kiss wasn't far behind. It was a really rewarding culmination of emotions that we saw in The Constant, though I didn't think it was as passionate - reminded me a little of the kisses from older movies - not a lot of *ahem* . . . .movement. :71:

i will allow this thread about "the kisses" to stay open....for now. the moment that it turns into a shippery debate, it will be closed. any baiting or snarking about what was or wasn't the "spectacular kiss" will cause said closure. just wanted to make that clear as i have closed 2 other kiss threads already.

I thought that they were both great too. They were the icing on the cake for me, in this awesome, action packed episode!

I hope that this thread can stay open. None of the characters who witnessed either kiss on the show seemed both by them, so wouldn't it be nice if the fans could follow the character's example and just appreciate them for the touching moments that they were.

I'm not usually into the romance stuff... but I just have to say, that was perfect drama... BOTH of them!
Sawyer = totally awesome in my eyes. What a great scene. And Penny + Des = very wonderful. LOVED that!

anyway, I found the Desmond-Penny kiss to be spectacular. It showed true, committed love, like soulmates. It was a very emotional moment for me.

As a Skater, the only presence of Sawyer and Kate together onscreen sticks me on TV. Their kiss was THE kiss. Further comments are useless.

As to Des/Penny, I'm sincere, Desmond has never been one of my fave character, but after "The Constant" I fell in love with this couple and I was so so so happy to see them finally reunited. That's what I call an happy ending.

I'm mostly a Skater but I also love Desmy (Pesmond?), and I loved both moments. Very different, but both beautiful and special in their own way. It's so beautifully tragic that one kiss brought a couple together and the other separated them. TPTB know what they're doing ;)

The Desmond and Penny kiss was the spectacular one in my opinion, although I'm all for Sawyer and Kate, especially since he jumped out of the choper right after, way to sacrifice your self guy. I actually cried during the Despenny scene, I was just so happy for both of them, more for Desmond only because we know Desmond better.

The Sawyer/Kate kiss made me cry .. Great acting!!

And the DesPenny one -- love it!! I was so happy for them!!

I totally agree with you on this. TPTB have said that the Des/Penny romance would be a parallel to one of the central love stories and IMO that can only be Sawyer/Kate. Both stories are about lovers who are separated by time and distance, bot involve the keeping of promises years into the furture. Penny promised to be there to answer the phone on that Christmas Eve...and she was. Similarly, Kate made a promise to Sawyer and we know she kept hers as well.

It leaves no doubt as to who shared the spectacular kiss, the one that Damon and Carlton have been promoting for three months. I am sure this argument will continue but the truth is that the Des/Penny kiss, while emotional and moving , was not the one they have been discussing for months . TPTB said it related to the triangle, Carlton said "it was it's one of my favorite moments of the whole series so far". I am going to believe what the two people who write and produce Lost have to say. Anything else is just someone's opinion and likely to be colored by their character and shipping preferences.

Honestly though, what other couple on the show could have possibly pulled off "spectacular"? Skate was the first, more obvious choice, because of their history, we already know they can deliver "spectacular". But Des/Penny was a close second for me. After the phone call in "the Constant", it was a given that their reunion was going to be gorgeous! :inlove:

I don't know that it was better for me, but it was equally as beautiful. And now Skate are in their former roles...torn apart, separated for years, beginning the journey back to one another...hope their reunion is as emotional as Des/Penny's was! :biggrin:

Even the people I watched the finale with just laughed "That's it?!" I kept telling them not to believe the hype. No one listens.

Most of the reviews are talking about the wonderful emotion of the Desmond Penny kiss. The Sawyer Kate kiss fell short of being spectacular. It was a nice heroic moment for Sawyer. But the kiss. Not so spectacular. I was actually relieved after having watched it.

would the shippers please leave their snarky comments and shipping preferences OUT of this thread. i would really like to leave one thread about the kisses open instead of closing them all. i think you all can certainly understand that everyone is just a bit tired of every thread turning into a shipper war. thank you.

Both of the kisses were spectacular for different reasons. A tragic and emotional farewell kiss which took Sawyer and Kate to a new level of epicness for the show, and an emotional reunion kiss which resolved the Desmond and Penny separation arc and gave us an equally fantastic pay off. I love the big character moments the best in the show and Darlton certainly know how to pull them off when it matters.

A wonderful juxtaposition. Both spectacular and romantic. One bittersweet and sad, and one joyous They certainly have the media reviewers and fans raving.

I'm really looking forward to when Sawyer and Kate get to resolve their romantic separation arc in the upcoming seasons too. I bet it will be just as fantastic.

Gotta give props to the Des/Penny reunion though for bringing us one of the rare happy occasions in a finale full of sadness and tragedy and loss.

Let's not also forget Jack's life saving kiss of CPR, without which Desmond would not have had the chance to greet 'Penneh'. ;)

yes you're right, i read yesterday sawyer and kate are becoming the new desmond and penny and it's true, there is separation, for many years and a promise.
for des and penny it was the phone call and i loveddddd this scene, for sawyer and kate it's something else but it's important too :)
i loved both kiss it was great darlton gave us those moments in the finale, a couple separated for years, saw eachother and another will be separated for years and we'll wait their epic reunion...

You are totally right ML. I think that this was what made both kisses even more spectacular. Put in separate episodes they wouldn't have given such a strong impact.
Now I just hope that a possible Skate reunion will not lead to another Des/Penny break-up!!!! After all they went through I could not bear another separation :frown: .

Every review I've read mentioned the Sawyer and Kate kiss as nothing less then spectacular, epic, one for the books, romantic etc. Sawyer/Kate and Desmond/Penny both had spectacular kisses. The ABC recap which is based on the script, which was written by Damon and Carlton said 'it stops time" and is "spectacular", both of which Damon and Carlton said it would be. Yeah, it was spectacular.

What can I say, I was INSPIRED! ;)

I don't think there's any serious question that, while both kisses were spectacular in their own ways, the Sawyer/Kate kiss was the one that Darlton have been hyping up for the past few months. Des/Penny are very emotional, and their reunion was a beautiful moment, but I think the circumstances surrounding the Skate kiss are what had TPTB so excited about it. That amazing scene was hindering on Evi and Josh's ability to make it spectacular, and they always deliver, as we and TPTB well know. And it was an incredible moment for the character of Sawyer. His love for Kate has caused him to do an about-face, and he has become the good man and true hero that she always knew he could be. She's always encouraged him, and he came through. No wonder Carlton describes the scene as one of his favorite moments of the show. At last, Sawyer reaches his potential, selflessly sacrifices himself for his friends and for Kate, and it's really his moment to shine. I'm just glad that Kate was there to see it.
