I think we finally know what the whispering in the jungle is. When Kate and Ben were on their knees and Keamy was waiting for whoever was chasing Kate to appear, the whispers began. Richard and the "others" have to be the ones making those whispers. It seems that the "true" others are Richard's people. I think Ben just joined them when they purged the barracks.

The Whisper transcripts I've seen seem very supernatural. They seem more like Peeves from Harry Potter than like rational, living people.

Didnt Micheal hear whispers right before Christian appeared and told him he could go? I thought I heard them then

I thought I heard whispers also, just before Christian appeared.

I'm a guy, so i don't know if this will come across the right way, but I pretty much "Squee" (that's the word, yeah?) nearly every time I hear the Whispers. At least lately, anyway. Don't know why, but it just gets me REAL excited.

It's something that's been in the show since Season 1 (eppy 9, exactly) and I'm glad they're coming back so they can be answered.

Kind of like the Others in their rag-tag clothes who can sneak around the jungle without leaving tracks. PART of me thought that would never be explained. But not now.

They may be part of the source of the whispers, but how do they get there? There were whispers before Christian appeared to Michael on the freighter.

I think the whispers are a bit more complex.

Hey - only REAL MEN can squee!!

The Whispers appear anytime around our "dead" folks (Eko, Boone, Christian) as well as around some questionalbe dead folks - (Claire and Walt - but Walt seemed to be alive) and anytime around the Others. So, either the Others are dead also or there is a bigger explanation.

I like the theory that because the Island is a big time machine the whispers are actually "bleed-overs" as people move through time - past, present, future. And that current Island time (the time we are dealing with) and real time 2008 are two very different things.

These whispers sounded fundamentally different to me. It seemed there was no reverb (ie supernatural) effect as usual, for one thing. And though it did seem like it was blatantly the Others doing it this time, since when is whispering really loudly a good strategy for distracting someone? There has to be more to it than that.

I don't think these whispers are from people, they are different, its like the island talking in a way. I don't know what the whispers are.

The hostiles could make whisphers just like the dead.
