Leave it up to me to start a topic about pets.

I have had a 'zoo' in my house for years and years. But recently, after a respiratory infection went through our house while we were on vacation, some of our pets are gone.

I'm the animal lover in my house. Every animal except for the cats is owned by me. My mom wonders how I take care of so many animals and still find the time for other things.

Here are my pets and a bit of their stories...

Scout - Pembroke Welsh Corgi
I had been wanting a dog ever since we lost our old dog Spanky seven years ago. Then, just before last Christmas, after looking at the site of a breeder who lives in my state, I found a dog I wanted. I had my heart set on a corgi, and I would have done anything to have one. It worked out. My dad took me to pick Scout up a few weeks later.
He's an awesome dog. He's coming along really nicely. He just loves to please me. And what' cool is that he knows I'm #1. ;) If I'm out of his sight, he won't be happy until he finds me. I'm sure he'd save my life if he had to.

Mimi - Some kinda mixed-breed cat
In 2001, a stray cat that decided she was going to live in our house had her kittens in a closet. There were four of them: Susie(F), Buddy(F), Simon(M) and Mimi(F), in order of birth. After the mother cat, Bitty, chased our own cat away, we decided to keep one of the kittens. Well, we ended up keeping Mimi and Buddy, since we just couldn't give all of them away.
We still have both of them, ad Mimi is just the same as she has always been. She's a spoiled brat, but she's the Mimi we know and love. She thinks she can have whatever she wants whenever she wants. She's pretty aloof, as tortoiseshell cats often are. And she's quite a bit of a loudmouth.

Buddy - Ragdoll/Some kinda mixed-breed cat
Buddy is Mimi's sister. She's the fluffy, pretty, nice kitty. She spends most of her time sleeping, and, like most ragdoll cats, loves to be held and petted and fussed over. She almost never stops purring and seems to have an endless supply of fur. She's just an adorable kitty.

Benjamin - Guinea Pig
In January of 2006, we got two guinea pigs. I picked a tortoiseshell one and named him Benjamin, and my brother and sister picked a gray agouti one and named him Timothy. They were inseparable. We'd take them out and the only way Benjamin would move is if he was following his brother Timothy.
Well, last month, the pigs got stressed by a major storm while we were on vacation. The stress made Timothy sick and he died.
Benjamin is still fine, but he's really lonely. It was sad seeing him look around for his brother the first few days after Timothy was gone. He's slowly adjusting and gets more attention from us since Timothy isn't there anymore.

The Hamsters
After Rover, my Syrian hamster died, I got two Campbell's Russian dwarf hamsters, who had baby hamsters. I gave Bree (the dad) to my brother, along with Barney, one of the sons. I kept Shasta (the mom) and two of her daughters, Argentina and Totoro. Bree and Barney died from the same thing that killed Timothy, but I've still got the girls.

The Fish
I have an aquarium with an asortment of tropical freshwater fish in it. I like my corydoras catfish. They're funny. And my neon tetras. And I can't forget the otocincluses, who keep my tank algae-free.

So what kinds of pets does everyone else have?

You have a Corgi!!! Me too! I love those dogs. They are absolutely adorable.

Currently I have two dogs: Gnarlz (the corgi, he's about two years old) and Sooog (a black schnauzer/poodle mix, a little older). They're annoying at times, but so much fun.

I've also had hamsters and a guinea pig in past, but never that many pets at once!

Yeah, corgis are awesome. :) I had my heart set on one, and for a while, my parents said that I might have to get a different dog because corgis can be pretty expensive. But I was determined, so I found a corgi that was the last of the litter, so he was more affordable. And I'm so glad I picked him.

We used to have a schnauzer/blue heeler/border collie mix named Spanky. He was with us for 14 years before we finally lost him. He lived a good life.

What's kinda funny is that, when we first got our guinea pigs, I had already decided that I was going to name mine Benjamin. My brother didn't know what he was going to name his, so my mom threw a few named at him. Literature names, mainly, and some of them were Peanuts characters. Linus was one suggested, and it was also considered until they decided on Timothy.

So if that would have happened, we'd have guinea pigs named Benjamin and Linus, which is a huge coincidence, because Ben on Lost was still "Henry Gale" at the time. That would have been pretty funny and my brother and I would be convinced that we're...I dunno...prophets or something...:D

Wow, I sure talk a lot, don't I? I need to get a hobby!

I have also had a "zoo" also! I have always believed that having a pet is not about the owner... its about the animal! And giving an animal a loving home to spend its short life in. Currently, I ahve 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 birds.

One of my dogs, Poochy, is a bichon frisee. Although right now he kinda looks like a Jack Russell because he's been shaved down.... lol. Then there's my labrador Maggie. I rescued her from the SPCA 2 summers ago... she was going to be put down the next day and they were giving her away. I found out a few weeks later that she was pregnant! She ended up having 8 beautiful puppies that we were fortunate to find wonderful homes for! My sister took 2 of them! And we kept one... so our third dog is one of the puppies (he's a HORSE now...lol), Smedley.
Then we have a 14 year old black cat and an 8 year old orange tabby cat.
And we have a lovebird named Reba that someone needed a home for. And lastly, we have a beautiful dove named (oddly enough because we got her before Lost was ever on), Penny. We found her outside, looking LOST, actually...lol.
So that's my menagerie! For now, anyway! There's talk about adding fish to our family!

At one time we had a house full of pets. We were always a "pet" family. At one time we had 4 cats and 3 dogs, hundreds of fish including stingrays, wolf fish, a snakehead, oscars, a rope fish and various others ...and two turtles :eek2:

We're down to just one dog now - "Hamish".

I have a cat named Molly that lived the first 3 years of her life in a basement without lights :-(

My mom found her and she is the most lovey dovey kissy kitty. She is the ultimate little girl pet and just loves being petted and kissed. Coming from a person that only had boy animals, she is a sweet little (well big she is a Maine Coone) baby girl.

I had two of the most awesome pets ever. Pete was my mutt puppy (a rescue) that smelled reaqlly bad even if he just had a bath, but was so rad. I used to sing 'You Are my Sunshine' to him. He died of a stroke a few years ago.

My cat Patch was a Turkish Angora and really violent cat to everyone but me. To me, Patch was like my son. He slept next to my head on the pillow every night and would follow me on walks. When he was 16, he got really sick and I had to make the tough choice to put him down so that he did not have to suffer.

I also had a bunny, hamsters, another cat, lots of birds, lots of fish growing up. There was also a neighborhood dog that belonged to nobody, but we all took care of him. His name was Joe and he would let the neighborhood kids use him like a jungle gym.

I have a Border Collie named Emma and 2 Quaker parrots! Taking one bird in tomorrow, he's having seizures :( I'm kinda worried about this. He used to have them 1 or 2 times a year, now it's weekly but not as violent

I'm a dog person, I had a Labrador Retriever "Dave" and a Shi-Tzu "Peaches", R.I.P. to both. I get really attached to my pets, and find it hard when they got sick and die so I didn't have a pet for so long. :strngsad:

But recently I adopted a cat, Fifi, and was surprised by how I apparently like cats. LOL. I used to think that dogs are the best and cats are annoying, but they're both great pets actually. :p He the sweetest & loves to sleep and watch tv, oh he's the best! I really love his personality & neatness.

I'm sorry to hear that.

LOL that's awesome. I was planning to name my cat from a character on Lost, but my mom said it'd be weird. :( LOL

Bad news. My bird had a stroke during a seizure and after a week at the vet I had to have him put down on the 4th of July... Very sad

I had a siberian husky for almost 13 years. he died the week after father's day. i came downstairs to let him out and he barked to come in, went over and laid down. went upstairs to go back to bed and i heard his back legs giving out downstairs on the hardwood floor. i came downstairs and said, what's going on down here. he was laying by the back door trying to get his back legs up. i tried to encourage him up with a treat and then he laid his head down. no lie, 45 minutes later, he was dead. the vet said he may have had a heart attack and that huskies really live only until about 11-13. i am so blessed to have been home and to have been with him.

so, of course, my husband brings home an austrailan cattle dog puppy two weeks later. he is adorable, but i was really not ready for it. he's all black with white tips, his chest, butt, legs and parts of his face are brown. the white tips will turn blue. he's called a blue heeler. i swear, having a newborn baby in the house is easier than a puppy. at least babies wear diapers! anyway, he's doing much better and getting bigger already. we named him Baloo after the bear in The JUngle Book. he has a ring around his noes which looks like a bear. the bad news is, the breeder is not responding in sending his shots, microchip and papers. i spent extra money for all this and i'm getting screwed. ah well, at least the dog is sweet and cute!

i also have an 18lb orange cat!:eek2: i caught him sleeping in the dog's cage! a small black cat too.
