I nominate Deus Ex Machina as best Lost episode yet!! I couldn't take my eyes off the screen and was shocked at the end... (I thought the major death would take place closer to the end of the season.)

By far, JJ's best episode yet!!

I think this was my favorite episode thus far. Kind of creepy, you never really know what’s going to happen next, interesting flashbacks, some funny little bits in the side story with Sawyer. Overall, a really good episode. And it leaves you wanting to know what happens next! The end part in Locke’s flashbacks kind of confused me, but back at the hatch was especially intriguing. The episode was really nothing like the preview led me to believe, but that’s not necessarily good or bad. I was interested after seeing the preview, and I was still interested all through the show. And I find myself again unable to wait til next week. I hope the next one turns out just as good.

As to whether Boone will be the first main character to go... I actually hope so. I hate to have to see anyone go, but we’ve had a few brushes with near-death already, and another miraculous resuscitation would seem a bit.. eh... I think this has to be the end of the road for Boone. At least he will get his dramatic death scene, and his last efforts were to call for help, that the others might have a chance of rescue. And perhaps it will even knock some sense into Shannon and make her more of a sympathetic character... It’s possible, right? Thou shalt not die in vain, Boone!

don't know if someone's already posted this theory in another thread, but has anyone considered that if boone dies, it might be b/c he tried getting word out of their being on the island? as he was making contact w/ someone, the plane crashes and he's (fatally?) wounded. perhaps the island's intent is to make sure they never leave, or are discovered, and the island either punished boone, or made the plane fall to injure (kill?) boone and shut him up?

just another wacky thought...

Really? Everything I have seen says 4-5 more (depending on if the 2-hour final is listed as one or two episodes).

wait, if Boone doesnt die.. who will? they said someone that hasnt had as much of a story line i suppose... has Hurly? thatll throw us through a loop... boone might just end up parylized and ooo ive got a great theory OMG--
okay- boone ends up parylized because jack eventually finds out about the drugs. Jack uses that to help with Boone and the island "tells" Locke to get to Boone and tell him if he wants Boone to live- Boone has to shut his mouth about the radio and maybe Locke ... breaks... the radio transmittor thingy??? There ya go...
sound right?

Best Episode Yet? I still consider the first Locke episode my personal favorite. I would put this one in the top five, definitely. The horrific trick that Locke's father pulled was gut=wrenching, and to see Locke standing at his dad's gates, locked out, well- that was just tragically pitiful. Poor Locke.

I agree - this is the best episode so far; I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Terry O'Quinn was outstanding. I bawled when Locke realized that his father had used him to get his kidney; what a horrible betrayal. I feel now that I have a little better understanding of Locke but yet it leaves me wanting to know even more about him. I'm dying to know exactly what it was that put him in the wheelchair.

I *finally* got to watch the episode today.

I loved the episode and thought it was wonderful, but it's not close to the best or my favorite.

I thought a number of things in the episode were really predictable. I knew right off the bat that something was fishy with Locke's father, and as soon as I saw the dialysis machine I knew he would screw Locke over. The whole scenario was completely foreshadowed by the Mousetrap game in the beginning.

I thought some parts of the episode were really melodramatic, especially the end scenes.

That said, I got real live gooseflesh during Locke's dream (which obviously foreshadowed Boone's injury).

The episode made a few more connections for me, and added a few more mysteries (which is good for me).

Still, Numbers and Special were better.

LOL. If Boone tells Jack the truth wouldn't he think it was due to the amount of pain he was in or something.

For the longest time, I thought Boone would be the goner. After this episode, I don't think so anymore. It would be too obvious, and I think they want to keep us surprised all the time.

You still don't think Boone will die? I disagree. He's gone. But maybe we'll get two deaths! Perhaps a Claire childbirth death.

I would have to agree as well. It just seemed slightly off from the other episodes. It had a very disturbing or unsettling quality which made it stand out. I got the chills during Locke's dream sequence, and that doesn't happen very much with network TV.
