Ferrel

Yah, I did. Great seeing Tim DeKay in another role. Do ya think Jonesy is really dead?

Ferrel

The season finale was one of the best things I've seen on TV in a long time. All the plot threads coming together, but still creating more questions. Yeah, wow.

I'm still attempting to come up with something coherent to say about the finale, alas, I cannot. All of got is: Good Goddard!!! What. The. Bananas. Wow. Just....My Goddard...

For those that missed some episodes, and for those who haven't experienced Carnivale before, good news. From HBO...

Three Nights of Carnivale

In the final showdown for the fate of a generation, two men will unlock
unspeakable power...

Don't miss your chance to catch every episode of television's most
addictive series! HBO2 will air all 12 episodes of Carnivale's thrilling
season two, over three consecutive nights. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back
episodes begin at 8pm, starting Wednesday, April 6.

I'm guessing we will know an answer to Carnivale's fate sometime next week. The response to Friday's survey and the response from this week's marathon will tell the tale.

That's unfortunate. If you like Lost, there is a good chance you'd like Carnivale.

Carnivale's bubble has burst. HBO has not officially said it, but Carnivale is cancelled.

Shame on you, HBO. Shame on you, Dan Knauf. You’re both responsible for a disgruntled fan base. HBO for green lighting a 72 hour story, when it will only commit to 12 hours at a time. Dan Knauf for being unable to tell 1 story in the 24 hours he managed to get.

This is the problem with genre shows that end in cliffhangers. Genre shows are risky as it is. To end a season of a genre show with a cliffhanger, when you don’t have a solid, up-front commitment, is ludicrous. Tell your story in the number of episodes you’ve been commissioned to produce or don’t tell it at all. If you do get picked up for another season, tell the next story in your universe.

Take a page from Tim Minear, creator of the critically acclaimed Wonderfalls. FOX commissioned 13 episodes. Knowing there are no guarantees, Minear created 1 story, which had all major plot threads tied up by episode 13. No cliffhanger. No unfinished story. Just a few minor threads that he could take advantage of, if Wonderfalls got picked up. Good thing he did. FOX cancelled Wonderfalls after 4 episodes. However, the show has done quite well on DVD, and a satisfying little set it is. You can pick it up, rent or buy, and watch a complete story. This is the model I think all genre shows should adopt. Never, ever create a story arc longer than what you are commissioned for.

So to HBO and Mr. Knauf, lesson learned. Ultimately, at the expense of the fans. Dan, you know how your story ends. HBO, you don’t care how it ends. We, the fans, are left holding the bag. A bag 1 third full, in this case. After 40 years of watching TV and dozens of incomplete stories later, I’m getting sick and tired of it all. Should fans really have to fight and claw, rail and bawl, just to get a complete story. I think not.

A very, disappointed fan.
Michael R. Belanger.

And now it's official

From the Hollywood Reporter

Big tent folds as HBO cancels 'Carnivale'

HBO has pulled up stakes on "Carnivale," opting not to order a third
season of the series. Prospects for a "Carnivale" renewal have appeared
bleak since the sophomore season wrapped in March; the Dust Bowl drama
didn't increase its viewership and series creator/executive producer
Daniel Knauf already signed on to produce a series for Showtime (HR
3/22). "We have decided not to renew 'Carnivale,'" said Carolyn Strauss,
president of entertainment at HBO, in a statement. "We feel the two
seasons we had on the air told the story very well and we are proud of
what everyone associated with the show has accomplished." (Andrew
Wallenstein)

Yah, we don't get to find out how it ends, but Dan Knauf did let us in on some points. Ben is not dead. Neither is Brother Justin. Nor is Jonesy :lol2:. Season 3 was suppose start 3 to 4 years after the events of season 2.

That's all we get. All rights to the story, characters, and background, in any form, is the intellectual property of HBO.

If you want to try one last thing to save the officially cancelled CARNIVALE, I got this from another board..........

But I also suggest writing a REAL letter to express your outrage at Carnivale being cancelled.* With any luck perhaps this travesty can be reversed.* I've heard that written letters are more effective than e-mails.
