is it that time already?!

the only thing i watch this show for are the awful auditions. those are the best!

I only watch the auditions and only because of Simon. I love the things he says to people!

I mean come on, your family really has to hate you if they let go to the audition and you suck! I can't sing worth a damn and my family would be the first to tell me....well, my brother would probably tell me to go on the show just to see me make a fool out of myself.....

I used to hate the show and last season I got hooked on it. The tryouts are hilarious and Simon cracks me up. I admit to watching it, and I pegged Carrie to go all the way after the first show last year. That girl's got talent. I'm looking forward to the new season.

I like watching the tryouts.... they are so halarious! I love it when the judges tell someone that they cant sing and they get soo mad and irate! thats great! after the tryouts, i loose interest. They get boring.

I hate admitting I watch this show, but I cannot resist it each year.

Simon just cracks me up because he is always saying exactly what I am thinking.

I love the auditions because more than half the people suck, and of course by this point people are playing it up for the cameras so it is just more fun to watch how pathetic someone is willing to go just to get on TV.

I'm usually unimpressed by the talent that ends up at the final rounds but its still interesting to watch all the wanna-be famous people and how they make huge physical transformations and turn into a Diva and then cry upon rejection. I just can't get enough of it.

I wonder if this year there will be more "rockers" since Constantine and Bo faired really well last year witih the audience. I really thought Bo had a great voice, but they're both sell-outs to rock.

Anyway, I'll still be watching.

Well, to be honest, no I don't get sick of it at all, because it's not getting old. Simon is being honest with his assessments. Almost all the people I've seen on American Idol are bad singers, sure they have their moments but they're not amazing singers. There are only a handful who are, and most of them have either come close to winning, or lost early on because they weren't bubbly enough to gain votes. When someone actually sings good Simon does give them a compliment, I thought he gave quite a few last year when they weren't even deserved. I'm just happy there is someone like Simon on the show who will not sugar coat the truth to someone, if you suck, you suck, there is no way of sugar coating it. Why tell someone a lie and let them keep believing they could make it in the business if they could never - It's better to hear the truth that way you can move on with your aspirations.

Don't be sorry, you didn't offend me at all. Maybe I came across snippy? I didn't mean to. :)

I was a big fan of Paula back in her day - I used to dance around to her music and stuff when I was little, but her feedback on the show is pointless and ridiculous. She never says anything critical or constructive - it's always, "you did a good job", "i enjoyed it", "you really had fun tonight, good for you!". I understand she is trying to be nice, and that is really nice of her, but the entertainment industry is cutthroat and that is what Simon is there for, to give honest assessments - Paula is there to sort of lend a crutch or lift some spirits, in my opinion. I guess it is a nice balance, but you probably wouldn't see that anywhere else in the industry.

I didn't watch it the first season because there was another show that came out (and is now cancelled) that was similar. I started watching the second season and beyond though. I hope they get some really good people this time around. There were talented people the other seasons but I just hope they get an even better group of people this year. One thing that is kind of annoying about the show is how they have to make music videos by sponsers, it usually doesn't make me want to buy whatever it is. But I guess you gotta pay the bills. I guess the try-outs are my favorite part too, it surprises me every year when the people who can't sing really bellieve that they can sing. Haven't they ever heard themselves sing? Are the family/friends around them lying to them to be nice? lol

I only watch bits of the show for Simon, lol. The guy cracks me up

The so- called talent annoys me. I gave up watching that when someone they raved about for weeks had a voice that sounded to me like fingernails on a blackbord. Couldn't bring myself to become interested in the show after that.

The try-outs are hands down the best part (and the only part I watch). You've gotta admire those people's willingness to make a complete fool of themselves on national TV just for their 15 seconds of fame... William Hung ringing any bells?? :)

I watched American Idol yesterday. To me it seemed to go on too long even though It was funny seeing the people that were crazy and/or couldn't sing. The worst "singer" in the try-outs to me was that girl trying over and over again to sing the Moulin Rouge song. It she sang any harder her lungs would've come out lol. I hope that the bad singers see themselves on TV so they can hear themselves singing. I mean, how can you not know that you sound bad? Unless it's just so they can be on the show which makes sense. *sigh*

both sets of twins were good... i have got to say that the funniest part to me was when that girl with the bad suntan came on to sing moulin rouge and simon was asking her about the tan.....lol... and then they were like, does your mom think this is okay? and they brought the mom in...HAHAHAHA! simon was like, "OH, no wonder..." lol. that was great..... But yea, i only watch the tryouts and ill watch on days that there is nothing else on t.v.... i tend to turn into a big couch potato after i finish with my little routine i have going on..... its the way i wind down..... cuz i have 3 kids.... and they are driving me crazy!lol

That chick who tried to sing Blue Moon..starting it over and over again. Then inexplicably starting off on some other song only to try Blue Moon again. Priceless!! Do these people not have any friends that will tell them, "listen, you are a great person, but a singer, you are not." Holy Baloney, the ones who stalk off yelling, "You'll regret this when I am a big star!!"...LOVE IT!! Nothing like watching people willingly humiliate themselves to make me feel better about myself. God Bless America.

The chick with the tan was the funniest thing I've ever seen. And then Simon has her mother come in the room and she's a complete suntaned ditz too. First, does she think that tan looks good? Also, she actually thought she sounded good. Can't the really bad ones (like her) hear what they sound like - they must tape themself at some point?

I missed season1. But have watched it ever since. I love the try outs. I loved the guy who had only sung in front of turkeys and not people. I thought it was so sweet that they let him get through so he could get professional singing lessons (because there was only 4 people who lived in his town and he could not afford singing lessons).

Haha omg, I was laughing so hard at that girl. When she said "Simon is going to love me" I said outloud to my roomate, "he isn't going to love those two braids on the front of your head".

What I'd like to know even more is who on this Earth is telling these people they are good enough to audition. I'm not talking about the people who clearly are going just to get on TV, I'm talking about the people who genuinely believe they are talented...I just want to know who is telling them they are good.

I never really watch the show once the actual competition begins, but I can't resist the auditions. :)

No offense to Colonel Sanders or the singing gondola operator... but this is exactly why I loathe American Idol. It is the worst most simplistic kind of entertainment that tries to appeal to every person's most base emotion: vanity. Anyone can try out for the competition and therefore thinks they have a shot at stardom. Even if you don't want to try out for the show you can live vicariously through a friend or a cousin or a co-worker... the list goes on and on. In most cases they don't possess the skills and are mocked by the closeted British guy and laughed at by the large portion of the audience at home who tune in only to see someone else being humiliated or making a fool of themselves, thus making their own egos feel slightly more inflated.

And the worst part is the voting. It's really a brilliant scheme to put the idea of power into the viewers heads. Every single person that is text messaging or dialing in their vote for that one moment gets to feel like they are the powerful music mogul determining the fate of the next superstar. The real bubble burster is that those votes are totally inconsequential because the real winner isn't decided by the fans. If the people running the show at AI want to sign someone and make them a star they will do it. If that production company thinks it can make money off any of the final 20 contestants they will do it. Everybody has opinion and most people think their opinion is the only one that matters...and the show plays right into that.

If we could get half of the people who vote in these pseudo-reality competitions to register and vote in real elections and participate in important public dialogue we might actually be able to have a balanced budget someday. To quote Simon Cowell, "It's absolutely dreadful."

My rant is done.

Yeah I have never really been the biggest fan of American Idol, well except for the first couple weeks when i get to hear Simon just crush people!! BUT this year I have a reason to watch and her name is Kellie Pickler.. Not only is she sooooo hot, but she seems like a nice girl and has a really sad back story(Her mom left her when she was 2ish, and her dad has been in and out of jail her whole life, her grandma died and she lives and takes care of her grandpa while working as a roller skating waitress).. I just love this girl and unlike a lot of guys who are 50ish googling over her, I dont have to feel like a scumbag because im only 22. Sooo, I will be watching for Kellie Pickler.

Heather was someone else that was bland. So, I expect her to go home as well.

The little girl who did "Midnight Train to Georgia" ROCKED!! Wow what a natural talent..

The 16 year old who went 10th is a superstar in the making...

The opera trained girl (Stevie) and the one with the 'tude from New York seemed to be the weakest..why do they go out of charecter to sing when being themselves got them into the top 24?? I don't get it...

Let's not forget the lady who belted out the Heart song...she tore it up...

The two guys I want to see are Ace and Taylor Hicks (the guy with the grey hair)...he seems COOL...in a Joe Cocker way...when he came in bending those heavy blues notes on the harmonica he became my dark horse to make it...good thing we are into re-runs AGAIN tonight...

Sorry I can't remember their names...they will engrave themselves into our minds soon enough...

Anyway, that opera chick was wack. I was so scared when she was singing, I wasn't really sure what she was doing or what was coming next. I think that the song she sang is a Josh Groban song, but oh my god, did she wreck that.

Good talent this year. I haven't seen the guys yet but last night my favorites were Paris Bennett and Katherine McPhee. Lisa Tucker was very good but hasn't grabbed me yet.

Out of the guys I can't wait to see Taylor Hicks. There's just something about him.

Here are all the guy contastants that were up tonight: ;)

01- Patrick Hall
02- David Radford
03- Bucky Covington
04- Will Makar
05- Jose "Sway" Penala
06- Chris Daughtry
07- Kevin Covais
08- Gedeon McKinney
09- Elliott Yamin
10- Bobby Bennett
11- Ace Young
12- Taylor Hicks

I'm voting for Ace Young (great song choice! i have "Father Figure" by George Michael! WOW! hes sounded so much like him! amazing singer...amazing guy! like his personality.

I'm also voting for Chris Daughtry (hot eyes! nice voice!), Taylor Hicks (what can I say about this man? wow! he is very passionate with his singing...a very passionate man. :)

All of these guys were unique in their own way... but the ones I picked just amazed me the most!

Im hoping to get through when I text or call this time! lol! I think I liked the guys performance better than the girls. There was more energy put into the songs.. more passion.. lol i was scared with Bobby Bennett..he just scared me... Simon was right..was a nightmare..no affense who like him :) i thought his performance wasnt that great. That 50's song "Shout" song by Gedeon McKinney got me singing and dancing along! lol! I love that song!

Chris, Ace and Taylor in that order..wow can they bring it...that dufus who sang the Barry song should be packing his bags right now..

Other than those three...not many "star" performances...I think Taylor Hicks may be the one to beat with his overwhelming talent and likeability...

I love Taylor Hicks he was so good tonight but like Randy said I think he could have picked a better song to perform. Still, he was simply amazing, I've never seen him do anything bad. He also just has a great personality and you can tell he's fun-loving. I honestly can't imagine anyone else winning this competition except him, but who knows. Honestly, it'd be better if he came in second since they are the only people who ever seem to do anything afterwards, besides Kelly Clarkson who left the label and that is the only reason her career kick-started.

My other favorites tonight were Chris Daughtry, absoloutly amazing voice and I loved his song choice of Bon Jovi, I think he might have even did a better job than Bon Jovi.

I really loved Ace Young, again I thought he sounded even better than George Michael. He also looks like someone famous but I can't figure out who it is, so if you guys have any suggestions that would be great ;)

I also think Chris and Ace are very nice looking guys and that will help them in the competition among women voters.

I'm currently in Houston and that guy Will Maker he is from a area in Houston and he's been all over the news down here. I think he is decent, especially for 16, but he's not a favorite of mine.

That one kid, Kevin, he is so tiny and he just reminds me of a little brother type of kid. I really thought he had a nice voice back in auditions but tonight he didn't do anything for me, I didn't really like his stage presence either, he needs to work on that if he makes it through.

I'll probably get flamed but Ace Young gave the cheesiest performance ever tonight. Yes, he is yummy, and has a good voice, but he is just too packaged and MTV for me. I almost laughed out loud at some of the forced "soulful" looks he gave the camera. Ugh. He'll get alot of votes I'm sure and deserves top 6 but Sorry, he's not the one for me.

My top 6 goes like this:
6. Ace (because it's all about the looks)
5.Kevin (who knew a voice like that would come out of this little guy??)
4.Mandisa (They call her boomdisa for a reason)
3.Katherine (Perfect vocals)
2.Paris (adorable and can ROCK it)

and if vocals and originality mean anything anymore in a world where Brittany Spears and Madonna are considered talented.........

1. Taylor Hicks will be our American Idol. I can't say enough about him.

I don't know. He may or may not, it is really up to *him*. Most of them go for a makeover because hey, it's a makeover. Bo Bice didn't do anything drastic that I remember though. I think Taylor seems like a very *grounded* guy, like Simon made a comment about how he is really there for the singing or something to that effect, meaning he doesn't care about the superficial things.

He may get a hair cut, which I wouldn't mind, everyone gets them...but I can't really see him being made over to be a hunk, it just doesn't seem like his thing. I could be wrong though.

I agree, he is very packaged, but a lot of people like that, especially younger people. I think he does have a nice voice though and for that he deserves to get far. However, he also had a good look and image and he seems to have a decent personality, that will get him further.

I really did like his performance minus the glaring look at the end, I actually did laugh out loud and said to my roomate, "what the heck is he doing?" It looked like he was in another world or something, I can't describe it, but I did not think it was sexy, it looked psychopathic. Very good voice though.

I think Elliot was the best singer last night - he's not the greatest looking, but if that's what it's about - then Fantasia or Ruben wouldn't have won. I liked Ace's song choice, he sang it well. I'm a fan of Taylor - but he could have picked so many more songs like a Michael McDonald, or Blues Brothers type song... that would have wowed me.

I think the weakest were David it was just bad Karaoke , but the cute factor will let him stay ,Bucky didn't like it at all , Kevin didn't like the song choice. I missed Jose and Bobby's performances , so I don't know about their chances. The first guy of the night ,Patrick seemed totally forgettable after everyone else performed.
Overall , I think the women were better on their night.

So last night I watched this show for pretty much the first time. I'd seen snippets of it before but never sat through a whole show. Is Paula always this annoying? Does she always say the same thing to everyone? Simon's a little bit of a jerk, and I thought he was too hard on a couple of them, but when someone's really good, he says so. At least with him and Randy, you don't know exactly what they're going to say.

As far as the contestants themselves, I'm sorry but I don't get the love for Taylor. I was ready to root for him (if nothing else, he was the closest to my age), but "Levon" is one of my favorite songs and he just did not do it justice. To me, Chris and Elliott are the class of the competition with Taylor in the second tier with Patrick, Will, Ace, Bucky, and maybe Kevin and Sway. The rest are Simon fodder, and yes, David was pretty bad. I was embarrassed for the kid a little bit.

Yes Paula is always that annoying. And I have to say Randy gets on my nerves too. He's up front and honest, but the dog pound thing just annoys the heck out of me.

I really enjoyed Taylor's performance, and I think if it comes down to woman vs. man as the last 2 standing it'll be Taylor and Paris. She is just absolutely amazing (not that I'm a pro or anything:)). Although I could see Chris (?) going all the way - I'm still learning the names...the guy that sang the Bon Jovi song. I think he's awesome.

Hubby thought Ace was seriously annoying and his stares were him trying too hard to work the camera.

I really loved Ace Young, again I thought he sounded even better than George Michael. He also looks like someone famous but I can't figure out who it is, so if you guys have any suggestions that would be great ;)

I did flip the channel back through most of the show and caught most of the performances. I hated Elliot's song. I don't know if it was him, or the song, or both together.. but it sounded horrible to me.

I think you should have heard Taylor from his audition and the earlier stages before last nights performance. If you know Joe Cocker, he sounds almost exactly like him. But I am happy he hasn't performed a Joe Cocker song yet and I hope he never does, because it will sound just like Joe Cocker. I think his song choice last night was not the greatest but I didn't feel like he did awful, but it wasn't the best we've seen him...maybe next week. But I think talent wise and originality wise he is better than Chris and Elliot, and I really like Chris too, I'm a Rock girl for the most part and he definitely can rock.

Paula always says the nice things, she is never ruthless like Simon can be, but Simon is being honest. I felt he was a little off with some performances last night, but generally I agree 100% with what he is saying, and usually say it before he does, my roomate and I laugh about that. Randy is usually like a nicer version of Simon, Randy will try to sugar coat it a little for the most part, whereas Simon is just blunt and to the point and usually makes a funny, yet strange metaphor. Then Paula usually tells Simon how bad of a person he is and hits him, but they really agree deep down.

I usually dont watch AI at this stage of the game. There's too many contestants that are not horrible, but not real great either and to me it's a little boring until it gets closer to the end. However, last night I caught most of the girls singing for the first time and I was surprised at how blah they all sounded.
The only one that I thought sang halfway decent was Mandisa(sp). That girl can sing.
Hopefully they will improve or they wont make it very far.

Hey all,
Jumpin' in to the AI thread. I've watched every season except for the 3rd because I was living abroad that year.
Just want to make my comments to things said earlier in the thread and then give my faves...
I can't stand listening to Paula or Randy. I tune them out. Simon can be grating but he always speaks the truth. I'm a singer, so it pains me to hear the bad singers. I always appreciate that he agrees with me.
All the things that make AI annoying, I tune out... the product placement, the insipid backstories, the childish petulance.... all tuned out by me.
But I like the competitive aspect. And I like looking for song choice, how good their voices are, how they deal with the pressure, what they wear, and of course if they are good looking...

Ok the boys are clearly going to kick butt this season. I would expect that the top 5 will be 4 guys and 1 girl, heh.
My girls are: 1. Paris, 2. the 16 year old girl who was in the Lion King... what's her name? 3. Mandisa 4. the raspy voice girl who bared her belly last night (what's her name?). All the other girls are forgettable and uninteresting. I know people like Kelly Pickler but she nauseates me. Totally average voice. And the aw-shucks-I'm-Southern-and-never-heard-of-escargot thing is like... HELLO CLICHE.

The guys are great. I love Taylor but I don't want him to win because I want him to get a separete recording deal where he can have more artistic freedom. He's by far the best.

Ace is great and will be in the top 2 or 3. He had amazing song choice last week and did a fantastic job. Girls love him. I hope his voice holds up because he could win if it does.

There's some other great guys but I need to see them again tonight to remember them. I'll only watch the last half hour during Lost commercials, though, of course.

I'm with ya, LostLaura. The boys are so going to kick butt! The girls were bad last night - boring, and unmemorable. Paris, Mandisa and Catherine are the best of the bunch. Can't wait to hear the boys tonight - at least for the first hour.

Hey all,
Jumpin' in to the AI thread.

Ha! You sound a lot like me! I'm also a singer, so it also pains me to hear bad singers or when someone goes off key and then they believe they were amazing. Also, because of that, I usually almost always disagree with Paula, sometimes Randy tells the truth but he isn't as hard as Simon is, almost every single time Simon says something I have said pretty close to the exact same thing to the person I am watching the show with, or I just agree with him 100% I know he can be a little mean or what not, but it is him being blunt and honest, there is no reason to sugar coat that kind of stuff when you are there to win or at least gain exposure as an artist. For example, last night when that Heather girl sang "Hero" by Mariah Carey, I said in the middle of it, "I feel like I am at a bad pageant" and then Simon turns around and says almost the exact same thing.

I also cannot stand AI product placements or the cheesy commercials, group songs, etc. But I do enjoy listening to the contestants sing individually, but the girls are not impressing me this year aside from about three or four of them. The guys are exceptionally better, but there is still only a few that are impressive. I think Taylor is the best but I also do not want him to win because I feel if he gets signed by another label his career will sky rocket over the AI winner.

I'm also going out on a limb here and saying I cannot stand Kelly Pickler, I know a lot of people like her but I don't. I don't think she is a great singer, she is okay, but nothing impressive, and her whole way of being may be "cute" to a lot of people, but I think it is ignorant and also cliche.

Ha! Yes, BurningStar, I think we are going to become fast friends.
I enjoy their individual singing and competition, but the American Idol-ness of it is annoying... like, I'm perfectly happy to be one of the millions and millions of people who watch the show, but do they need to have Ryan Seacrest tell me that I'm awesome because I didn't watch Survivor or Olympics figure skating? heh.. no.

Anyway... well we totally agree about Simon.
Paula is useless, but for the sake of the contestants who feel relieved when she is nice to them, then I guess it's good that she's there. And, actually, she annoys me much much much less this year than any other year. Last night she was the most annoying so far this season: the hitting Simon and switching seats. I know it's all staged, because they seem to actually be good friends IRL. But other than last night, she's been fine by me this season. She's actually been tougher on the contestants than previously, I think.
I like when Randy is harder on them. He usually seems to be curbing his opinions.
But I also think that's part of the gimmick--that Simon is going to have a similar opinion to Randy but he'll be harsher, so they don't have Randy say his real harsh opinion or it would water down the Simon gimmick. You know what I mean?

Oh, and I totally agree with you on Taylor and Kelly... and the girls in general... so BORING. boring boring boring.
Except for Paris. She's not boring. And as I said in my previous post, I do like some of the other girls that I mentioned, but none of them actually excite me, other than Paris.
But then I wonder if Paris will win... is she too similiar to Fantasia? (Keep in mind that Fantasia's season is the only one I didn't watch, so I'm not that familiar with her.)

Oh, and seriously about Heather: HERO??? Who sings HERO?? Oh man. I personally feel like anyone who purposely takes on extremely famous power ballads by any of these singers: Whitney, Mariah, or Celine, is asking for HUUUUUUUUGE trouble.

I am a musician myself...usually shill type things like this drive me crazy...I think Bo Bice really turned me onto watching as he is the type of singer I love..raw..rocky ..and passionate...hoping to hear Chris turn into that this year as well as Taylor...what a great bluesy voice he has. I agree about him not winning..I think he will be more successful on another label...it took Kelly Clarkston four years to break out after her contract with Idol was over...

Looking forward to the showdown tonight....go rockers!!!

Okay...it is Chris standing alone after tonight...another blah night until he tore it up. Man his he talented..come on Taylor...show us more than Lionel...

Well, I didn't see the last half hour. Did you tape it, BD?

I really wanted to see Chris. I like him a lot. I still loved Taylor even though it was uninspiring. And I loved the second guy. I never really noticed him before.

I think that's about all I saw, unfortunately. Are Lost and AI always going to overlap? :frown:

Chris rocked tonight, by far the best tonight.

Gideon really stuck out to me, I loved his performance. Elliot also did a great job tonight too.

Taylor did just okay tonight, nothing impressive and I was expecting a lot more from him, I really hope he gets through and shows something awesome next week.

This week the guys were DEFINITELY more entertaining than the girls. The girls are kinda boring to me b/c there are a couple really good ones that you know will be around for a long time, but everybody else is not too good and it's just like, i dunno, kinda pointless because you know the ones that won't make it far. You just have to wait for them to go for the real competition to start.

The guys rocked though! But mandy I do agree with you about Taylor. I was pretty disappointed b/c we know he can do better.

I didn't watch the entire show . I found something else to watch after the first hour :wink3:

Taylor "WHOO" Hicks : I liked the song , but I really want to see him nail a song. I hope what the judges say about song choices sink in , but they say the same thing each year and people don't get it.

Elliott: I loved his performance and if he keeps it up I think he will be in the final group.

Ace : I didn't like , but his looks will take him farther than he deserves.

Gedeon: I liked the song and I really like that he puts so much into a performance.

Kevin : The wrong song and I thought not much longer will you be on the show.

Jose: I didn't like and it's possible he could be out.

I wish I could have seen Chris's performance .

Elliot blew me away...what a great voice...I didn't realize he was that good.

Who felt sorry for the crooner? He got his arse HANDED to him for the second week in a row by the judges...it was very uncomfortable to watch..

Something about Chris...man does that dude rock...he just leaks enthusiasm and charisma...and he was selling cars for a living? I see him and Taylor as the top two..two distinct voices and totaly different styles...should fit well with the ying and yang...

Yes I taped the last 30 minutes...couldn't miss that other show that was on...

Haha chelly, you're right, Chris isn't too hard to look at. He also reminds me of the lead singer of Live, he doesn't really look like him though, aside from a bald head. But maybe that is why he reminds me of him, their voices really aren't the same, I don't know.

I didn't feel bad for the crooner, I can't stand him and I just want him gone, watching him sing was so painful. It was also painful to hear that Kevin kid sing, but he's just so little it's so hard to want to put the kid down or be mean to him.

I can't remember all of their names like you guys can! Ok, I can't believe I'm doing this... I'm going to the website:

Elliot. He was so good!!! I really like him now. He won't win though.

I wish I'd seen Chris. :frown: I really liked all of this other performances, and yes, I enjoy looking at him too.

So unimpressed with Ace last night. He did so good last week, so it was dissapointing, because I so want him to be more than a pretty face... and actually, I didn't find his face all that pretty last night, weirdly.

Love Taylor. Didn't think he deserved such harsh criticism, but no, it wasn't his best performance.
I didn't really catch most of the other guys, sadly, because I was jumping around doing laundry before Lost.

I still think Elliot is the best singer out of the bunch. Taylor didn't wow me and Chris was pretty good, but I was surprised how bad Ace sounded - he was off key and I hated his song choice.

BurningStar4
03-02-2006, 04:20 PM
Ace's voice sounds a lot like Daniel Bedingfield's voice (the singer of the song he chose last night). I noticed it before last night's song and I was kind of surprised he picked a Daniel Bedingfield song because his voice is almost identical in a lot of ways.

Anyway, I was talking to my mom yesterday and she thinks Ace is a hunk, but Taylor and Chris are her favorites, lol.

I definitely agreed with all 4 of them going. No doubt. I'm so glad to be rid of Brenna. Good riddance. If she had a great voice, maybe I could put up with her attitude. But she was totally average.
Obviously the blonde girl had to go. Terrible song last night.
The crooner had to go, no doubt.

Oh, Sway. Um, he's the one I could have given another chance to. I think he's better than he showed last night. But, he was never gonna be in the top 5, so he might as well go now, right?

I didn't see David sing this week but he was so bad last week, that I am glad he is gone. I was worried his fan girls would rally and keep him in the competition. He reminded me of the red headed crooner from Season 3 . The guy that hit the worst clunker in the history of the finals and made it through for a couple more rounds but Season 3 , from what I saw of it seemed to be the weakest season.

I found this on a music site.

"American Idol" contestant Ace is taken, all you frothing-at-the-mouth ladies. Rumor is he's been dating Essence Atkins, a regular on the UPN show "Half & Half," for a year now. And last October, Ace even appeared on the show with Essence to sing.

from Krisin's E online chat

molly asks: Any Idol Scoop? Who you rooting for?

Kristin_Veitch replies: I’m ALL ABOUT Chris Daughtry, and apparently, I am not alone! Randy Jackson told Access Hollywood that “Chris just got offered to be in the band Fuel, the lead singer is gone so they are trying to get it together.” (The band’s singer, Brett Scallions, bowed out of the group last month.) I’m guessing this happened because of his incredible rendition of “Hemorrhage” by Fuel last week. BUT, of course, it ain’t happenin’ because Daughtry is under contract to A.I. till the end of time. So you betta vote for him

Mandisa was hands down the best tonight, she sang "I'm every woman". The judges agreed that she was the best, Simon said she was in another league compared to the other girls.

The other girls did a good job except for Kinnik and Ayla in my opinion. Melissa was average, but I think the other two were worse. Everyone else besides them did a really great job, but after hearing Mandisa they were even put to shame.

I was pretty disappointed with most of the performances. Mandisa was amazing.

I was a little annoyed this morning - a local DJ was talking about AI and said that as good as Mandisa is, the DJ doesn't think Mandisa will win because of her weight. If that really happens it will be such a shame. It's ok for Ruben but not a woman? Anyway.....

Paris: I missed her performance

Lisa: Nice job . I can't believe she is 16 . She has such control. The judges want her to sing something more fitting to her age, but I don't think she would be comfortable changing.

Melissa : Didn't like. I thought she was oversinging the song. It smelled of desperation.

Kinnik: BAD . She knew she was bad and said she would do better , since she had the 3rd least votes last week I think she will leave Thursday.

Katherine: Ryan questioned her and said, there was a rumour she was pregnant and leaving the show. She isn't , but I think it was her horrid outfit from last week that made people think she was pregnant. She did a great job and looked great last night. She was into her song and having fun.

Ayla: I couldn't understand her for the first part of the song:mad: She finished strong but I didn't like. She was mumble singing or I thought so any way.

Mandisa : Wow ! I loved her song. She looked so relaxed and was really performing.

Kelly: I liked , but I didn't understand why she had to drop to her knees. It seemed forced and a stunt , which doesn't fit her" I'm so country I don't know nothing bout nothing" image.:ohwell:

I believe Kinnik, Melissa, and Ayla will be the bottom three.

Thanks for the roundup, everyone. Sounds like the people I like least did the worst, so that's good news for my faves.
Sounds like no one has much to say about Paris... she's my fave. Did she do okay? She's not in danger of being voted out, right?

About Mandisa's weight: I really, really hope that wouldn't be a reason for her not to win. People were saying it would keep Reuben from winning, and he won. So I would hope there wouldn't be a double standard between men and women... I guess we'll see....

So excited for the boys tonight!

BurningStar4

I don't think Mandisa's weight would keep her from winning, remember Kimberly Locke, she was number 3, but Clay and Rueben were just better than her that is why she didn't make it to the top 2. If they weren't there she clearly would have won. The same will happen this year, Mandisa is definitely the best out of the girls, she is probably more likely to get a good majority of votes over the other girls. Her competition is going to be with the guys, and because of that she may not win. I don't think her weight will keep her from doing good in the competition though (she shouldn't even be judged on that anyway, which I doubt she is), if it was she wouldn't have made it this far.

Is it me or is this a Chris, Taylor, Mandisa final three?? Michael McDonald was a perfect choice for Taylor...Chris went a little safe but was light years ahead of the rest..

Kevin?? "Vincent???" Clay Aiken sang that in the finals a few years back and BUTCHERED it...tough song..tougher to make Vincent VanGough a topic of song..

I think Bucky is too regional....he comes off totally out of place...Will stunk...bad choice...Elliot was too safe as well and Gideon does seems as he is in a different place musically than the rest...

Interesting to see who gets run...

I pretty much agree with a2m's assessment of the idol wannabes, except I don't like Gedeon. It's probably the attitude he showed early on combined with the smile. I'm sorry to sound like Simon, and it may be genuine, but the smile bothers me too.

Kevin's constant blinking is seriously wearing on my nerves. He has an ok voice for me, but just ok. He doesn't really seem to have that much control.

Ace, does nobody else hear his falsetto as screeching when he tries to sustain a note? Argh! I agree the falsetto is nice, until he strains to sustain. I really hope he doesn't keep choosing to use that technique for the rest of the competition. He's getting better at it, but he needs to practice it on his own time. I want to hear what he can do now. He also doesn't seem as comfortable to me since he has been trying this new "thing." I just can't believe the judges don't hear the screeching...am I the only one?

I like Chris, Elliott, and Taylor for the men. They are the only ones whose voices I would want to hear on my radio. I might not mind hearing Bucky on the boombox at a keg party out in a pasture, where I just spent the afternoon four-wheeling with the rest of my rural teenage friends, but other than that... oh wait, I don't do that anymore. :undecide:

Hometown girl Mandisa!!! Love. her.

I was pulling for Paris since the beginning, and I really don't think I have heard anything bad in any of her performances. I think the judges are a little overly critical about her doing the old stuff. That's who she is and what she knows. As long as she gives it her own I don't see the problem.

Lisa Tucker has a beautiful voice and a lot of poise, but I would like to see her loosen up and have a bit more fun on the stage. I think this is where she and Paris are quite different, and Paris comes out more favorably. Though Paris does oldies, she has a lot of fun doing them and her youth and energy just really come across better.

Melissa Meghee, what is with the hairstyle? That was awful. Yes, I too smell desperation.

Katherine McPhever! :24: I like her. She did a terrific job with her last performance.

Ayla, ummm...Ayla...she's ok. I just thought she looked kind of silly last performance. I personally do not think that was a good look for her. Anyone else? She's a pretty girl, and yes, she's getting in touch with her "girliness," but I think she went a leettle too far this time.

Kinnik, byebye.

Kellie Pickler, a lot has been made of Simon's comments to her after her last performance. As far as her voice, there is no comparison between her and Carrie Underwood. I think what Simon was saying was that he kept wanting this kind of performance from Carrie last season, but never got it. Carrie was stiff and didn't seem to really have any fun. It's nothing against Carrie really. She just seems to be a much older person in a young person's body. I have heard some people get really ugly about Kellie, saying she's a fake and whatnot. I don't think that's true. I think she has lived in a very small world up until now, and I think what we are seeing is some genuine wide-eyed innocence, and ok...ignorance. However, I don't think that's a permanent condition. Having said all of that, her voice is not bad. I think she is very likeable, especially to a teen age group, which probably makes her a good candidate to be a pop star. I personally thought going down to the floor was cute for her. Since she doesn't know how to dance, she has to do what she can to make her performance memorable. I think she succeeded, because nobody is about to forget her after that.

I definitely think Gedeon is better than Bucky, but I was really annoyed by Gedeon's personality, so I don't mind him gone. Bucky or Kevin will definitely be next.

How do they do the top 12? I can't remember? It'll be one person a week? If so, then a girl might be next, not one of the guys.

I'm excited that they'll all be singing Stevie Wonder songs! I loooooove Stevie!!

If you can't get enough American Idol, I found this on TV Guide online

Starting March 16, Fox Reality will air American Idol Extra, which promises to reveal "the backstage drama of what really happens" each week after someone is voted off.

Fox Reality is on channel 250 on DirectTV

Yeah, it's kind of a shame. I just have a hard time separating the performance from the personality. First impressions, especially negative ones, are extremely difficult to overcome. I'm glad Gedeon is gone. I don't think I personally dislike any one of the top 12now. From here on it's completely about performance for me.

Also, even though Ace is prettier, I think Elliott may give him a run for his money to be one of the 4 that Baileysdad named. Otherwise, I'm it total agreement. Those few would have to mess up pretty badly to not make it to the endgame imho.

You called?

Chris, Ace, and Paris are going to be in the final three..they were light years ahead of everyone else...from the first note of Chris' song it was over for the rest of them...damn that man is talented!!

Hmm...I thought Ace missed by a mile tonight, though I was thankful he dropped the falsetto. I honestly thought Mandissa and Taylor both buried Ace. I'm not confident that he will be in the top three at this point. I think he has a lot to prove yet.

A few observations:

I think Simon was wrong about Bucky's hair. There were several women watching with me tonight, and they were all raving about how much better he looked with his hair down. I think cleaner was one word that was used. :p I also heard a few gorgeous remarks, and most were pleasantly surprised by the performance. I think he may still have a chance if the ladies have anything to say about it.

I agree Chris was the best of the night. How long are they under contract with AI for anyway? I wonder if Fuel will try to wait it out to get him as their lead singer? He must be ecstatic that they asked. Go Chris!

Now, about that poll...it doesn't seem to be working. I'm having a lot of trouble guessing who will be the bottom three vote-getters anyway though, mainly because I don't think it will be all about performance. If it were up to me, Kevin, Melissa, and Lisa would be gone. However, I'm not understimating the power of 10 year-old girls with telephones, and you have to love the chicken dance:biggrin: . I just don't think he should have been going for funny. :undecide: Lisa Tucker just doesn't seem versatile enough to me, but she could end up being another Vonzell Solomon. I was completely underwhelmed by Vonzell until the last several performances from her last season. Then she came out of nowhere and really gave Carrie and Bo some competition. Melissa is just meh...

:24: He really looked different tonight. After Simon's comments he may not wear it down again, but he should. He didn't look nearly grungy like he has in the past. The style consultants did wonders for him.

Seriously? Fuel? Woah.

Yep. Randy Jackson told it in an interview. Fuel's lead singer is gone and they want Chris, but he's under contract with AI for however long, so it's not going to happen any time soon.

Yeah, she's sweet and likable, but it seems like she can only do one thing. She's into the Whitney Houston thing, ballads and such. Her performance just didn't do anything for me tonight. I thought it was boring, but Simon liked it...so what do I know?

I didn't watch the whole show.

Ace: While he was singing, I thought too bad the era of the boy band is over because he would be good in a boy band.
My favorite Ace performance , but I'm still not a fan.

Kellie:  Didn't like. Wrong song and wrong mood.

Elliott: I got the impression he was suffering from dry mouth, while singing. He definitely nailed the last note of the song.

Mandisa : Great! Don't worry about going home any time soon.

Bucky: I thought it was the right song for his croaky voice. He feathered his hair.:24:

Melissa: I didn't like it. I changed the channel and didn't go back for a while. She showed more personality in apologizing for forgetting some of the lyrics , than she has in past shows.

Taylor: LOVED! He really felt the song.

Didn't see the rest of the Idol wannabe's sing.

I thought the strongest last night were Chris, Katharine, and Paris. I missed most of Taylor's performance, I only got to see a few lines where it looked like he decided to stop singing because he was dancing around too much. Sorry, i'm not a huge Taylor fan. His screaming and jumping around all the time mildly annoy me. He does have a good voice but I think Chris' is better.

Chris - Dude is way talented and can definately pull it off.
Taylor - This guy suprises me EVERY single time he sings. The guy is amazing.
Mandisa - This girl can belt it out with the best of 'em. She definately deserves a shot.

These three will get deals one way or another. Period. It's no surprise with Chris and Fuel. (Don't know if I would take that deal or not --- Fuel ain't doing too good right now )

With Taylor-----I'd buy anything that guy puts on record. Fantastic voice ans with a personality like that - you'd be sure to hear it come out on the recording..

My wife loves Mandisa and will deifnately get her records.

Anyway --- that's my $.02

Chris Taylor, Paris and Mandisa, Are definately the top four. Each one of them is brillinat and I would probably buy any album they put out

Katherine, Lisa and Elliot all have a chance to crack the top four if one of the four Imentions crubles and they step it up.

Ace is really pretty and has a decent voice, that's about all you can stay.

Bucky has surprised the heck out of me recently and deserves a few more chances.

I really really like Melissa, but she just doesn't stand out amogst the likes of, well everyone else.

Kellie is vapid and boring. snooze city.

And then, Kevin. . . Nerdy little Kevin.

Gotta say I love the guy, and he does have a really good voice, but he is so NOT the American Idol.

Boys: Elliot (best voice) and Chris (best peformer)
Girls: Katherine (best voice) and Paris (best performer - stage presence)

As far as Taylor and Ace goes - I like to watch them, but I don't think they are good enough to win.

Actually, I can't watch the show tonight - see... there's this other show on at the same time - maybe you've heard of it - it's called LOST? :Jumpy:

It does show the actual votes - when you click on the dropdown under Score Display Type - choose Show Raw Numbers, that will show the actual votes. I don't know how acurate it is?

Well it's not accurate, it's not scientific, the site even claims that. It's a good estimate but again it is not going to be accurate. However, you can look and see who is likely not to go home by looking at say the top 5 versus the bottom 5 all of whom have a better chance of going home. And the site does not count actual votes, it only counts busy signals.

Well - the right people were in the bottom three and the right person went home, that's for sure. Kevin was cute as a button - but not even close to being the American Idol!

Go Elliot!

Did anyone watch during the commercials tonight? Or Tivo it? I didn't... who got voted off?

Just in case others want to watch later...

It was Kevin! Bucky and Lisa were also in the bottom three.

Thanks, Joshypoo!!
I am so totally okay with that.

uhm....actually, I have this little device....maybe you've heard of it ...it's called TiVo????

hehehe Well see, I watch Idol and record Lost and fast forward through the commercials. By the time I've watched Lost, Invasion ( or in last night's case, Evidence ) is starting.

By the way ... last night's Lost was great.

And I'm sorry to see Kevin go over Bucky, but it was going to be one of those two anyway...

Kevin's gone. I couldn't watch either cause I had to watch Lost. I don't have TIVO either.

I actually turned the channel on a break to see Chicken Little get the boot...he was so out of place on that show...timing is everything....can we just fast forward to Chris, Taylor and Mandisa and not have to suffer through the rest anymore??

The Anti-Idol websites are now telling people to vote for Kellie . I like Kellie more than Bucky, Lisa, and Ace.

I like Kellie more than Bucky too. Mandisa is great. I hope she wins it all.

Well...for those who are saying they don't have TiVo.... ours is part of the Comcast On Demand package .... and it ain't that expensive.. Take a look at the packages offered by your cable company ( that is if'n you aren't using rabbit ear antennas for your sets .... and there's nothing wrong with that ) and you might find a pretty reasonable package with a tivo unit...

Just some friendly advice....... ( by the way..if you've already done this ... please disregard )

Man...it seemed everyone was on a downer tonight...way too safe...even Mandisa seemed forced. Chris is a rocker and I don't think he will pull off anything but rock so I didn't have a problem with that but Ace and Lisa were flat and sharp..I can't even remember their songs....My favorite (Taylor) seemed WAY to conservative...maybe the top ten is getting to them...Paris did remind me of someone playing dress-up and pretending too...Bucky was very karokee...Elliot did great...dancing needs help...little Kellie Pickler looked...really different...much fuller in the face for some reason...weird song...

Not a good night.

Didn't get to watch the first half hour, but here were my impressions.

Katherine was the best. Her vocals were insanely hard and she did a great job on them and looked good on the stage.

I like Elliot. I like his voice. I thought the song was too big for him, though. He couldn't belt it out in a convincing way. But I still enjoyed him. But why is he wearing a hoodie with a jacket over it? Dude, you're not outside.

I really liked Paris' vocals and cute dancing but if she'd toned down the outfit, she might not have looked as much like she was playing dressup.

I thought Bucky sounded quite good, actually. But it wasn't exciting, by any means.

Chris was way too loud and forced and scary. Yikes. But he's still hot.

Ok, for the ones I didn't see... I saw their recaps:
Kellie looked horrendous and sounded nauseating.

Lisa sounded bland.

Ace looked weird, and he PARTED HIS SHIRT TO SHOW HIS CHEST??? Yuck. You can't start acting like you know you're a stud. For the record, I am so not attracted to him, so that made me really turned off to thim.

Mandisa sounded and looked good in the snippet they showed, but it sounds like everyone thought she was over the top?

Taylor looked and sounded good too. Cute haircut. Leather jacket? Mmmm.... but again, people are saying he wasn't so good?

Have to agree with Baileysdad - except I actually love the song that Taylor sang - it's a great song and he sang it well.

Still lovin' Elliot - yea, bad dancer - but how many white boys are any good?

Yeah...Chris was REALLY hard rock tonight...his fan base is 25-45 I would guess so those people will stay with him. Taylor looked too corporate and scrubbed and didn't sound like himself...way too contained...I REALLY love his voice and style....he needs to belt out a Van Morrison tune to get that edge back..."Darkside of the Road" anyone?...Mandisa was over the top and I dare say she looked really bad in that outfit.

What was it with Kellie?? Her face looked so full...was it the haircut?? Ace reminded me of that twit Constantine the way he kissy kissed himself...ugh...

Funny thing about Kellie – as soon as I saw her I immediately thought they were trying to make her look like Carrie Underwood – the center hair part, soft curls, soft make up. It was interesting.

I still loved Chris, but I think he could have picked a better song. I imagined him singing something by Staind.

I really am starting to be annoyed by Ace, but I don’t see him going anywhere anytime soon. I hope Bucky gets it tonight – he REALLY annoys me.

I enjoyed half of the show.

Lisa: She's no Kelly Clarkson. She was trying too hard and had a pained look on the camera.

Kellie: A bit too twangy , y'all. I didn't like it . The original artist Sara Evans, just nails the song, when she sings it live.

Ace: I thought he was singing through his nose. He was worse than Lisa and holding that look at the camera , as he ends the song has become comical.

Katharine: I didn't like the start of the song and it didn't get much better. My least favorite Katharine performance.

Bucky=Sucky

Taylor: He was trying to be a bit different , since he was a bit over the top last week , I still love a contained Taylor .

Mandisa: I thought she was awesome, but she should never wear jeans on the show.

Chris: He did rock , but he seems more like a lead singer of a group than a solo artist. I still think he gave one of the top 3 performances.

Paris: She worked it out. :24: very hoochie . I thought she was great and not afraid to go big .My favorite Paris performance.

Elliott: Great way to end the show. :thumbup1: Loved.

Was it just me or the song that Bucky sang (which I loved!) wasn't it like the Sawyer theme song?????? Or am I being werid??

Love Chris....as he is from a little town near where I live...we see alot of stories locally on the family...hope he wins ...Kelly is good but beginning to annoy people here with "fakeness" maybe Loretta Lynn was that naive but I guarantee no 17yr old in NC is that naive today..Bucky is also from NC...dont think he will last much longer but goes down easy...like Paris too...

I listen to country, and I love Kellie, but she wasn't great Wed. night. I like Chris, too. He's the only guy I like. Ace tries to act....hot. Showing off his scar....go away!!:D

Yes...Ace needs to jump on the boy band circuit and leave the rest of us alone. I wasn't shocked Lisa got booted...totally wrong song to do for someone as young as her.

I really like Chris...his backstory (LOST phrase for sure) shows him to be a man of charecter...not many of those left...he and Taylor are my favs...

I was sweating away at the gym tonight, watching EXTRA TV on the television... and they showed the AI recap and I went "WOW! I was so caught up deciphering that darn hatch map that I forgot to find out who got booted!"
Well, I liked Lisa. But she'll be good on Broadway. I still think she'd make a kickbutt Mimi in RENT in 3 or 4 years. It was definitely time for her to go, though.
