View Full Version : Does the DVD have complete episodes?
pacejunkie 12-30-2005, 09:01 AM After the hack job ABC did to What Kate Did this week, people are asking whether the DVD contains the completed extended episodes from Season 1 or the cut down versions. I didn't see Season 1 when it aired, did anyone record them at the time and compare them to the DVD's? I'm curious about this too because I considered the DVDs to be the definitive versions. Which episodes from Season one were extended?
elfdream 12-30-2005, 09:23 AM There was someone around here who had a DVD rip from the first airings of the first season and we were constantly asking him (her?) to double check things. We were always remembering things that no one else could and this poster would tell us if it was in our imagination or not! ;)
I myself have TiVO and had watched Season 1 over the course of last summer before the DVD was released. I don't remember any deletions or additions when I watched the DVD for the first time.
eLGee 01-02-2006, 06:49 AM Some people has said that the pilot episode had "extended scenes", but after double-checking with my recorded episode, no new footage was found on the DVD. What's on the DVD is the original aired cut.
Polaris 01-02-2006, 07:21 AM Yeah, I have to agree with eLGee. I watched all the episodes on TV when they first aired and i recently got the dvd too. But after watching the dvd, seems all the episodes on it are the same as the ones aired on tv. I am saying that based on how far i can remember the differences between the ones aired and on the dvd (i didnt see any extended scenes on the dvd).
There are the bonus features on the dvd though......
I_Own_Dom_and_Josh_Forever 01-02-2006, 08:07 PM I believe they are the same as well. I recently got the DVD's and i have watched the 1st season on TV. Its the same, although the DVD comes with a bonus features disc, I haven't watched it yet. I've watched the first part, but it seemed rather boring, ;)
sheba 01-02-2006, 08:24 PM I didn't notice any extended footage in the episodes themselves. They appear to be exactly as they aired.
In the deleted scenes, the most intriguing thing to me was a scene cut from the flashbacks in Exodus. Where we saw what people were doing in the airport, just before the flight left.
It is a scene between Claire and the pilot, in the airport coffee shop. He is trying to comfort Claire (who as usual, is rattled) and he tells her a story about his mother ...
... his mother once went to a psychic, who told her that she would meet a man named (sorry, I forgot the name) and be very happy. She promptly dumped her boyfriend Bernard and proceeded to wait around for (the forgotten name), who never showed up. In the mean time, ex-boyfriend Bernard sold his computer business for a whole lot of money.
I am convinced the Pilot's mother's ex-Bernard is Rose's current Bernard ... and that he is a computer whiz ... and that when he finally sees the hatch computer, he will be able to figure out something important.
I may have to go back and watch that scene again to catch the name ... in case it shows up in conversation again.

Just a thought, but:
The description of "Bernard" by the pilot does not match the character Bernard. I think it is just a coincidence, and of course, the scene WAS cut. But anyway, only time will tell.
sheba 01-03-2006, 03:39 PM He described him? I don't recall a description ... just the name ... but I've been wrong before. :)

Yeah...I believe he said he was bald? I think he must've said stumpy, too, which I think Bernard could be called...but he's not bald, is he?
Aaron C 01-03-2006, 04:29 PM Still a very intriguing thought/idea, Sheba.
juicyfruitgome 01-03-2006, 09:58 PM He says "She dumped her boyfriend Bernard, computer programmer, short, bad comb-over; and then Bernard sold his company for 39 million dollars."
And I doubt they would put the shortened versions on the DVD. I'm pretty sure for the extended episodes this season, they shortened the episodes so they could fit into the one hour time frame, and still show the same number of ads, not for plot reasons, so there wouldn't be much of a point in using the shortened episodes on the DVD.

I totally agree. The cuts were for TV airing purposes, and therefore shouldn't make their way onto the DVD versions (the cuts, that is).
UKKiwi 01-08-2006, 03:01 PM They have the aired versions I think
