View Full Version : Ace Of Base
who cares 01-07-2006, 03:38 PM Hey guys, anybody here that likes the Swedish band Ace Of Base? Or at least, anyone that remebers them, they were huge in the mid 90's with hits like "The Sign" (#1 in 36 countries incl U.S), "All That She Wants", "Don't Turn Around", "Beautiful Life" and many many more. Their debute album sold 23 million opies worldwide back in 1993/1994 What do u think about them? :) http://xs62.xs.to/pics/06016/aob.PNG
giggles 01-07-2006, 05:01 PM I used to love them...they were awesome
back in the day
madameripper 01-07-2006, 10:46 PM I LOVE Ace of Base! I grew up with them. My favourite of their albums is 'The Bridge' but I love both the others as well. (I only have 3!)
tuesdaymorning 01-07-2006, 10:48 PM I used to always listen to "The Sign." That was the only song I knew of theirs.
who cares 01-08-2006, 04:34 AM Wow! Nice to hear u guys liked them :) I'm a huge fan, one of the biggest fans out there, I'm mad about AOB and Linn (the blonde vocalist). >>> madameripper - seems like u are quite a fan. "The Bridge" is my fave album of theirs too. So u have 3 albums, my guesing is that u have "The Sign" (1993), obviously "The Bridge" (1995) and "Cruel Summer" (1998)... the only official albums that u are missing are "Greatest Hits/ Singles Of The 90's (2000 4 new tracks) and the last one "Da Capo" from 2002. :D
Sara-SNWG 01-08-2006, 05:15 AM I've got a cd of Ace of Base! ("Flowers")
I like 'Dr. Sun'. 'Cruel Summer' is a cover of Bananarama's song, I think.
Aurora10 01-08-2006, 04:45 PM :lol2: I loved them back in the day! Good songs. I always used to make this plush reindeer I had dance to their songs. lol

Yup! Huge fan. My friends and I basically only listened to them for a while.
I didn't know they had come out with an album in 2002! I'm going to have to hunt down some of those tracks.
Do you have a favourite AOB song?
who cares 01-10-2006, 05:06 AM Yep, my fave song is "Whispers In Blindness" from TB but I also adore "Strange Ways" (both Linn songs), "Everytime It Rains" form "Cruel Summer" and "Ordinary Day" from Da Capo :) I also love the Ulf sogs on "The Bridge" and "Cruel Summer/Flowers" :) Here's info about the 2002 release "Da Capo" (unfortunately not released in North America) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index%3Dmusic%2526field-keywords%3Dace%2520of%2520base%2520da%2520capo%252 6results-process%3Ddefault%2526dispatch%3Dsearch/ref%3Dpd%5Fsl%5Fov%5Ftops-1%5Fmusic%5F7927733%5F1/103-5958672-6330257 >>>Sara - "Flowers" is the European version of the North American album "Cruel Summer", albums are almost identical as tracklist etc. :)
madameripper 01-10-2006, 05:25 PM Awesome!
That explains why I never heard of it, I'm in Canada.
I'll definitely have to check out that song, "Ordinary Day".
REZN8 01-13-2006, 04:16 PM First a potty training discussion and now ACE OF BASE! Crazyness!!
I used to freakin love these guys, they were all the rage back in Jr High! I've been known to jam out to a couple of their tracks while cleaning, they are definately a guilty pleasure... them and Tom Jones, thanks to the Carlton on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Ha! I remember Carlton liking Tom Jones on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air! I used to love that show.
You are an 'Oz' fan, aren't you?
Ace of Base weren't really all that popular here, just a few select groups were fans.
REZN8 01-13-2006, 07:20 PM Carlton did the most hilarious dance to Tom Jones' 'It's Not Unusual' which has since become one of my all time favorite songs :D And yes, I LOVED the show OZ, and when I saw Harold/Micheal in Lost I thought that was just swell, and then when they introduced Eko/Adebisi, I friggin freaked out! I knew right away before his face was fully visable that it was him, How cool is that that they got casted on such an awesome show together?!
Oooh, but I still need to keep it on topic, I didn't even know that Ace of Base had made more albums then that first one, I may have to check those out.
TheMole171 01-13-2006, 11:18 PM I would just like to thank you for starting this thread. I am OBSESSED with Ace of Base, but I am the only person with-in like a 100 mile radius who is. I own all their albums (i actually had to import Da Capo :p) My fav. album is The Bridge. If i was FORCED to pick a fav song, it would have to be Don't Turn Around, but there are about a billion others that tie for a close second. It's funny, i became a fan of theirs when i was like 6 when the Sign was released as a single, and i just stayed a fan.
A question for open discussion - Do you like the very modern new sound of the group on their "new" album Da Capo? or do you wish they'd go back to the style of the Sign?
who cares 01-14-2006, 04:44 AM TheMole171 >>> WoW! Happy to see another AOB fan here :) Do u visit any of the fan communities such as The AceBoards @ www.aceboards.com or the hallo boards @ server5.dedicateduk.com/~ace/thb/, those are kinda the biggest fan forums where interesting things happen :D About Da Capo and it's sound: I loved it. It was kinda different but yet still AOB-ish. There is this reggae beats in some of the songs (What's The Name Of The Game, Summer Days, Don't Stop), there is a "Life Is A Flower"-ish track - "Beautiful Morning" and pure pop genius as "Unspeakable", "Da Capo" and "Change With The Light", there is an "Everytime it Rains"-ish ballade - "Ordinary Day", and there's even the dark "Dancer In The Daydream"-ish - "The Juvenile". I was surprised how amazing "Hey Darling" was. Who would think a track with such cheesy title can be so amazingly good. I love both the rock (brunner) version in the German album and the pop-rock version in the scandinavian album. So... yes, "Da Capo" is my second fave album of AOB, just because "The bridge" I consider the best album in the world, nothing, noone can ever top that. :)
Hehe You can see by my nick name that i love them! :-P
My fav album is The Bridge too, and i don't agree that Flowers and Cruel Summer are almost the same, ok it was supposed to be the same but the European version is much better, the european version of Cruel Summer is much better than the US, a lot of the track production is different and we have more tracks, we have the huge European hit Life is a Flower, Dr Sun, I Pray and Captain Nemo. From Da Capo, i was disapointed with the overprodution but the songs are great, i love Ordinary Day, Hey Darling, Da Capo and Beautiful Morning, the only one i don't like is the song they covered by Black, Wonderful Life. Can't wait for their next album that will prbably come out in the end of 2006/2007
Eugene the Jeep 01-15-2006, 06:13 PM Ace of Base.
Advantages: In the bargain bins
Disadvantages: A dreadful reminder of the worst of the 90's
who cares 01-16-2006, 04:46 AM Hehe You can see by my nick name that i love them! Great, another Acer :P Yaeh, FL and CS are not the same of course, but very close to one another albums. All the so called "singles" are on both albums TTR, AHAW, CS & WYNM/LIAF. I prefer WYNM than LIAF, always had and I adore EIR so for me CS is not worse. Both have their advantages but I realise non-fans would not import both, they'd just by what's available so that's why I said albums are almost identical. :) I didn't really expect see another acer here. WoW! That's great. I'll send u a PM ,I have a question.
