Sounds good! I'm really looking forward to this movie! :D

I'm not really a comic book person. So, why is this Gwen Stacy person such a big deal? The article made her sound important. I feel out of the loop! :undecide:

WHEN IS THIS MOVIE SUPPOSED TO COME OUT??

Superman

if i remember correctly, Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's love interest before Mary Jane in the comic books and she was originally supposed to be the girl that the Green Goblin took to the top of the bridge for Spiderman to choose between saving her falling or that cable car of people... in the comic, i believe Spiderman chose to save the cable car and was not able to save Gwen Stacy in time... she died... if i'm mistaken, please correct me...

anyway, the movie is supposed to be released May 4, 2007

This movie will be great and one of the main reasons is they kept the actors and director combo together. Hopefully they continue for a couple more at least. So many cool Spidey stories, so little time.

This is how she died.

Goblin threw her off a bridge and he shot the web to save her, but in doing so, snapped her neck as the web caught her ankle.
But lately, in the comics, it's been pondered if she was already dead when Spidey caught her.

Although I've never read the comics, I think Bryce Dallas Howard will be a great addition as she's a pretty good actress. Plus Topher Grace! I love his sense of humor.

By the way things sound this is going to be a change for Topher Grace. The guy he is supposedly playing,Eddie Brock is not a nice guy.and he won't get any nicer...heh.

In the Comics Harry became the Green Goblin. I can see them have him becoming the Hobgoblin (who was someone else in the comics) so the average joe public doesn't get confused.

just got back from seeing it... action was pretty good... acting was meh, although Tobey is pretty good at crying... Thomas Haden Church acted pretty well... extremely campy movie and too much focus on romance, but that has been the theme with the series anyway... Bruce Campbell as the french maitre'd was hilarious...

stupidest part of the movie was how Marko became Sandman... he was running through a field, jumps a fence, runs across a grass area, falls into a pit where they're messing with the particles of sand?! he just falls in?! it's not fenced it or guarded by people or cameras? the scientists just assume it's a bird?! why are they messing with the particles of sand anyway? apparently nothing imporant, as Marko was in there ALL NIGHT and the sand was still in there!!!! GAH!!!!!

Venom was okay... i didn't understand by Brock had sharpened teeth himself though...i can understand the symbiote but then it showed Brock with the filed down teeth? i don't get it...

overall, i'd give it a 3/5

I just got back from seeing it. First off - let me say I DONT LIKE Tobey Mcguire - never have! But I have to admit - he's the only actor I know of who can pull off Peter Parker convincingly...even though he's painfull to watch! I consider him a necessary flaw.

That being said - I think the movie had more good in it than bad. It was worth paying to go see, & I'll buy it on DVD. I agree there was way too much romance & character development between Peter & M.J., but the action scenes more than made up for it!

Sandman & Hobgoblin were great! There wasn't NEARLY enough Venom, though!

I think the butler's revelation to Harry about his father's death was a paper thin plot device just for the purpose of giving Harry redemption before killing him off.

Gwen Stacy is too much of an iconic character in the Spidey mythos to have been used so little

Favorite moments:
J. Jonah Jameson's scene with the pills & the buzzer that kept going off had me laughing 'till I cried!

Peter strutting down the street in full disco mode was played to the absolute hilt! His acrobatic dance in the bar was great too!

Eddie Brock being outed & fired...LOVED IT!

Bruce Campbell gave his best cameo yet as the maitre'd!

The ending fell flat on it's face to me. I would have felt better if they had resolved the situation with Flint Marco's daughter. They just let it drop at the end!

They say they're gonna make at least 3 more Spidey movies with or without Mcguire, Dunst or Raimy. I hope they recast Spiderman.

Superman
05-05-2007, 07:11 PM
i definitely agree about the Osborn butler just conveniently giving Harry all of this info at that point... okay, so you couldn't help the kid out when he was all about revenge before?! would've saved a whole lot of time!!! razor thin plot device to get him back into good graces with Petey...

another thing-- TOO much Peter Parker and not enough Spidey time... i know the whole comic Spidey to MJ relationship deal is supposedly a big thing, but come on... oh yeah, Kirsten Dunst and her singing was like nails on a chalkboard... those lyrics too... whoever wrote it should be penguin-walked out of show business...

not enough Venom... not enough Sandman... Topher was okay with some of his jokes, but other than that, he was just there...Thomas Haden Church owned his role as Sandman though... good casting there...

so let me get this straight, "bad" Peter Parker is him with greased up hair and him pointing at women... wow... that Symbiote isn't as tough as i thought...

Whoops, looks like there WAS already a thread on this. Wonder why I didn't see it before... Should've done a search, sorry!
acting was meh, although Tobey is pretty good at crying...
Yeah, he was good, but I was sort of cringing at that part. Sometimes, when people cry, it's really not all that attractive, you know? ;) Still, very believable!

stupidest part of the movie was how Marko became Sandman... he was running through a field, jumps a fence, runs across a grass area, falls into a pit where they're messing with the particles of sand?! he just falls in?! it's not fenced it or guarded by people or cameras? the scientists just assume it's a bird?! why are they messing with the particles of sand anyway? apparently nothing imporant, as Marko was in there ALL NIGHT and the sand was still in there!!!! GAH!!!!!

Oh, come on! I thought that was cool, lol. I dunno. It was sad.

Venom was okay... i didn't understand by Brock had sharpened teeth himself though...i can understand the symbiote but then it showed Brock with the filed down teeth? i don't get it...

Right, that made little sense. Still, I thought it was cool. IMO, Venom's teeth are his scariest asset.

Sandman & Hobgoblin were great! There wasn't NEARLY enough Venom, though!
AGREE. Venom was pretty kick-butt. Probably my favorite of all the Spidey bad guys (from the movies... I don't know much about the comics). I don't know why he didn't get more screentime. I was hoping he wouldn't actually die, so if they DID happen to make more films, he could make a comeback. But... Oh well.

Favorite moments:
J. Jonah Jameson's scene with the pills & the buzzer that kept going off had me laughing 'till I cried!

That was so funny! One of the best comical parts, IMO.

so let me get this straight, "bad" Peter Parker is him with greased up hair and him pointing at women... wow... that Symbiote isn't as tough as i thought...

Haha! I was confused about that, too. And his dancing was just embarassing.

Oh, and I totally agree with you guys about there being too much Peter/MJ romance. What was that, over half of the movie? I wanted to go to sleep at those parts! And I was actually ROOTING for Harry and MJ when they had their little scene together, just because Peter and her were so boring.

DefenderOfMen
