I wanted to start this thread in anticipation of JJ Abrams' new pilot, "Six Degrees", ordered by ABC.

I'm assuming that the show is slated to premier in the fall with all of the other new shows.

I am sure this will be a great show. JJ's track record is pretty darned good at this point.

Here is a list of links with news about the show. If anyone hears anything, post it here and let us know.

When I was watching the Degrees of Separation thing, I was wondering if some little... clues or something could end up getting tossed into Six Degrees, considering the fact that it's a J.J. Abrams show... Thoughts?

Nothing big ^ just related to the S2 DVD set.

I think there may be some interesting cross overs and easter egg type things in the show. I hope so anyway. There were a couple in the last two seasons of Alias.

Thanks for writing. Until I got the e-mail notification that you'd written, I completely forgotten about this thread. Hopefully now that the show will be starting soon, this thread can be resurrected.

For anyone interested, ABC has a press release up for the show now.

I sure hope so. The idea of six degrees of separation is so fascinating to me that a show based around it seems great. I hope it will be a must watch.

I think this show is gonna be awesome and I bet it gets a good following.
I can hardly wait for it. I love the shows where things tie in together but not right away. With JJ involved there's sure to be great character development.

Watching the Pilot and loving it. It's got JJ all over it. Not to mention also Burky. And Michael Giacchino. And the Italian actor who was in The Hunting Party. lol, it's a regular Lost love fest. ;)

If someon could try to tell me what happened from right after the first commercial break until 10:25pm... that would be great! Sorry, if that sounds dumb, but I had to take a call, and I missed that time frame. :frown:

Do we know yet why Erika Christenson's character is running from that guy?
Why did Bridget Moynahan's character think her bf was cheating?
Some other stuff happened but I missed it. grr.

I'm glad "Six Degrees" turned out better than what I expected. I am sort of on and off with J.J. Abrams shows. I absolutely love "Lost" and "Alias", while I really didn't like "What About Brian." After watching the first episode of "Six Degrees", I felt the same as what I felt when I watched "Lost", that this was the beginning of something very popular and terrific on television.

Damian drives Whitney's boyfriend to her apartment. Whitney invites her boyfriend to the top of her apartment building for a candlelight dinner to celebrate. She proposes, he says it will happen, but he wants to propose to her. In the morning, Carlos goes to Mae's apartment to find out she moved out that morning. Mae answers to a hot tip for a space in Laura's apartment. She changes hair color and her name and gets the room. Damian and Steven meet in a bar where Damian loses more money on horse racing. Steven gets a phone call to meet Whitney. She has a job for him to take pictures of a new advertising line. He declines the first offer. The secretary's are looking at guys on a dating site and Whitney glances over and sees her fiancee which is nicknamed Paul 174. He claims to her that it is a running joke by him and his friends at his work. I think that is close until the Italian guy and the Art scene. I hope I was able to help you.

Wow, you really did help me. That was basically everything I missed, because I was watching with the sound down while I was on the phone, and visually, I did see those scenes. Thanks!
And way to remember everyone's names. :) I can't yet.

Why did Steven turn down the job at first? Because he's depressed? She seemed really pissed at the end when he showed up at the agency to take the job.

I think he turned the job down the first time because he'd lost his "eye". He couldn't see anything through the camera lens and so had lost the ability to take the same kind of photos that he once had.

Then he saw whats-her-name crying on the street and was inspired, and got his "eye" back.

I'm on the fence about this one...
and i'm soo with ya on the "whats-her-name" thing,
couldn't keep track of who was who for awhile....
I think her, was Laura...maybe?
I'm sure that i'll give it a couple more goes,
and i have no doubt it will be a well done, smart show...
just not sure if it's gonna hold my attention

I'm pretty sure you're right about her name. I believe it was Laura. The one Hope Davis plays right?

I agree about the show. I wasn't as blown away as I expected to be, but I did think it was a good show. I will certainly tune in for the next few episodes to see if it holds my attention.

I really liked some of the characters. Damian and his brother were cool. Damian seems like he could be a really interesting character.

I was also pretty intrigued by Campbell Scott's character Steven. His tirade toward Whitney was funny.

Finally, Whitney seems like a great character. I like that she is obviously a professional go-getter and she is hungry for success, but she isn't painted as the sterotypical Hollywood idea of what a successful woman who cares about her career is...a bitch. She seems career driven, but also nice and caring, and able to be hurt, which is more like a real person than you often see in similar roles.

I just want to add that I love the language filter Karri uses. Vincent....cracks me up every single time.

I liked it... it'll be hard if I get invested in it though. I already hate the cheating boyfriend. I hated him from the moment I saw him in the limo.

I am sooooo glad the Mae and the dude (Carlos? I gotta get these names down) bumped into each other in the subway at the end of the first episode and not the 8th...

I liked this show...alot...but still don't have all the names straight...it has been helpful to read the posts here...and get all those people straight in my mind.

I can see this becoming a hit...I liked all the people in it...which is strange...ususally there are a couple...you just don't 'click' with...

I agree with MOC...I hate the boyfriend...lying dog...but hopefully he'll get his in the end...and Mae...she has some mystery to her life...it will be interesting to see how that plays out...

And...did I see a picture of Mae...as a blonde...being given to Damian and Steven...to 'find'...omg...that's gonna mean trouble...

And of course...Carlos and Mae are really sweet together...though I like her better as a blonde...

So many stories going on...I'm already hooked...

I'd be willing to bet that Whitney's boyfriend (name?) won't be a series regular. Aren't the regulars:

Whitney
Carlos
Laura
Mae
Damian
Steven

That makes our six right? I had to write that out for my benefit mostly. Yeah, the boyfriend probably won't be around long.

Thanks Necrite...for the list..

Wasn't that Laura and Whitney that meet while having a pedicure?

And Mae is the one to keep Laura's child...

And Whitney...is just a force to be reckoned with...I LOVE that character!

And the other's too....heheee...great show!

I loved it! All the new pilots seem sooo much more promising then last year(of course, I didn't watch some of them). That was so sad with Laura(was that her name?) and her husband...I was literally about to cry! Everything about the show was great...and it was just such a relief to see that it was great! I loved the scenes between Damian and Carlos(was that Damian he was talking to later in the bar?) and how they sorta became 'friends' after that; and I loved the connection between the photographer(whose name I didn't catch) and Laura(I believe) on the road...that was just so well done.

I really loved the whole pilot, and I can't wait to watch more:)

I wouldn't have stopped watching anyway, but since I really liked the pilot I'd continue watching even if it weren't for the Bad Robot connection... ;)

BTW, I looked at the biographies of the producers (http://www.abcmedianet.com/showpage/showpage.html?program_id=002093&type=producers) on abcmedianet yesterday and one line in the part about Raven Metzner caught my attention - I don't remember seeing it before, but I'm not sure whether it is a new addition to that bio or not:

His mother, Sheila Metzner, is a well known photographer who shot the Steven Caseman photos in the "Six Degrees" pilot.

Well it sounds like all in all, people liked the show. I hope I remember to watch on Thursday/ have time to watch. Luckily (good planning by ABC, of course) it comes on right after Grey's, so as long as I watch Grey's, I'll probably end up watching 6 Degrees.

I at least want to watch long enough to know all the characters names... and maybe get a better since of what the heck is going on with Mae.

And I've picked a show that has my name in it. So now my username makes sense on the Fuse and on Flicks N Shows. ;)

OMG!! It's like...Six Degrees of Separation!! Oh wait... ;)

For a long time (like almost a YEAR), I thought I had met Raven at D:LA1. But when I saw the TCA photos from the Six Degrees panel, I realize that I had actually met Stu  Very nice man.

Oh, and I am enjoying this show VERY much. I had high hopes and they actually got surpassed, which doesn't happen very often -- even by the BR boys.

You can thank the person who first came up with "J.J. Abrams chic", that was the reason why I looked for the pictures in the first place...

Ironically, I had actually found a picture of Raven online, but it was a B&W and it was an older picture. I couldn't find a pic of Stu, but he and Raven looked enough alike that I thought it was Raven that I had met. Then I saw the photos (danke) and realized I was wrong.

I'll admit I was a little worried that episode 2 may have been something of a letdown after the very promising Pilot, but nope, it was great!

The interview, when she let him just tell the truth about his abscene from work was just great, and the criss-crossing of the characters continues to be be pleasantly realistic.

What I found very refershing was the opening montage, which managed to recap events form ep1 while adding new stuff with the voiceover. I'm wondering if every episode will have such an interesting "previously on" segment with narration form a different charecter each time? That could be very cool.

I liked that it was a different character doing the montage this time, but I'm still kind of up in the air whether or not I'm going to want that to continue for EVERY episode.

We'll see ;)

Usually I completely tune out during "previously on..." segements, but I liked this, as it had something new juxtaposed. :)

I liked that the episode tended to focus on and "be about" the character who did the voiceover. The first episode was more centered around Carlos and he did the opening voiceover. Same with the second episode, Damien did the opening voiceover, and the episode was more Damien-centric.

I think it's a cool device.

From ABC's pressrelease on the ratings for the week of October 2:

Six Degrees (10:01-11:00 p.m.)

During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's Six Degrees outpaced its CBS drama competition (Shark) among Adults 18-34 (3.4/10), as well as across the key women demographics: W18-34 (4.8/13), W18-49 (5.3/13) and W25-54 (6.0/14). In Adults 18-34, Six Degrees beat out Shark by 36% (3.4/10 vs. 2.5/7).

On average over the course of its first 3 airings, Six Degrees has improved ABC's performance in the hour by 68% in Total Viewers (10.6 million vs. 6.3 million) and by 120% in Adults 18-49 (4.4/12 vs. 2.0/5) over the same nights last season.

Guess their motto is "always look on the bright side of life the ratings", huh? ;)
