View Full Version : Rock Star: Supernova
Ferrel 07-05-2006, 10:20 AM Just throwing this out there. Rock Star: Supernova starts tonight. Personally, I thought the format of last year's show was cheesy. However, I really liked performance night. The covers of rock standards, by the lead singer hopefuls, backed by a live band of studio musicians, were very entertaining. Thoughts, anyone?
myothercarisflight815 07-05-2006, 10:29 AM I didn't see it last time... what network is it on?
Ferrel 07-05-2006, 12:36 PM I didn't see it last time... what network is it on?
Tonight it's on CBS at 8 on the east coast, though I believe it will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the following weeks. Performance night on Tuesday. Elimination on Wednesday.
waltisfuture 07-05-2006, 02:46 PM Thanks for starting this thread Ferrel. I will be here to yak with you about it. I love these type of shows.
I saw a rerun of Jimmy Kimmel, with Tommy Lee, and he said Network TV is going to be a lot spicier ... or something like that.
He's staying with Motley Crue, and they are even touring with Aerosmith this September??
He said they (Super Nova) have already done some recording with a faux singer until they pick someone, and that it's a throwback to 70's music like T-Rex. He said it will be music you can clap and sing along to, so I'm assuming it's not heavy metal??
He also said they may pick 2 lead singers???
How this is supposed to work is confusing. He stays with Motley and tours, but just releases albums as Super Nova????
I thoroughly enjoyed RockStar INXS, and think this will be even better. It looks like Dave will be the host again.
gusthepolarbear 07-05-2006, 05:42 PM ^and brooke?
thanks for this thread i was wondering when it started
i liked the last one too and marty was my favourite though i am glad he didnt win cause i dont like inxs
Tardis 07-05-2006, 06:30 PM I got passes to the taping of the first episode, but my parents wouldn't let me go, since its in L.A....
Danni 07-06-2006, 10:39 AM I love the performances and glad the show is back. I really like INXS so I really enjoyed the first season and am still wondering why Marty Casey didn't win - not to knock JD but I really, really liked Marty.
oh yeah, and Brooke has great boots.
near the end of last year Brooke had the most killer boots I've ever seen.
not that I'm into Brooke
not that I have a foot fetish
I just have an appreciation for quality footwear.
I think the girl from South Africa (Dilana?) that did Lithium was great -- she's going to be most interesting to watch.
gusthepolarbear 07-06-2006, 10:58 AM I liked the guy who went last singing rebel yell
also the australian guy's pretty funny
i dont know about the zayra or whatever her name is she's a little different
Ferrel 07-06-2006, 12:26 PM My favs from last night, in the order they were performed.
Ryan Star - Goo Goo Dolls - Iris (lots of emotion)
Patrice Pike - Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love (sounded just like Grace Slick)
Zayra - Evanesence - Bring Me To Life (not perfect, but it's such a hard song to sing)
Josh Logan - Black Crowes - She Talks To Angels (don't think his soulfulness will fit the band but it was a good performance)
Dilana - Nirvana - Lithium (very scary girl)
Dana Andrews - Melissa Etheridge - I'm The Only One (best female last night, IMO)
Jill Gioia - Janis Jopland - Piece Of My Heart (good, but everyone does Janis)
Lucas Rossi - Billy Idol - Rebel Yell (my fav, a fellow Torontonian, so I'm biased)
Worst performances last night
Jenny Galt - Nickelback - How You Remind Me (even my bias can't excuse that performance)
Matt Hoffer - Coldplay - Yellow (keep your day job)
Chris Pierson - Police - Roxanne (ditto)
The rest
Storm Large - The Who - Pinball Wizard
Toby Rand - Bob Dylan - Knockin On Heaven's Door
Magni - The Rolling Stones - Satisfaction
Phil Ritchie - Living Color - Cult Of Personality
Don't ya just love Tommy mugging for the camera? Looks like he's having fun.
Superman 07-06-2006, 12:43 PM i wasn't able to catch the whole ep, but i saw Josh - Black Crowes, Dilana - Nirvana, and Matt - Coldplay... Josh's performance was really well done, but like Ferrel had already stated, not sure if it's what the band is looking for... Dilana was just creepy... i honestly didn't find it all that good and that dancing (jumping up and down like she needed meds) at the end was just bad... Matt was terrible
twilightsun 07-06-2006, 02:43 PM I loved Rockstar: INXS, and this one looks pretty good, too. We're wondering what they'll be doing on the elimination show... last time around, they had to sing INXS songs before the cut was made. I wonder what they'll be singing this year.
Ferrel 07-06-2006, 03:19 PM I loved Rockstar: INXS, and this one looks pretty good, too. We're wondering what they'll be doing on the elimination show... last time around, they had to sing INXS songs before the cut was made. I wonder what they'll be singing this year.
Good question. I quess we'll find out tonight.
kayid23 07-06-2006, 05:45 PM ROCKSTAR: INXS
was one of the best shows I've ever seen with talent that is unmatchable by any of these people.
Marty Casey still rocks.
I can say easily... none of these people can compare.
by the way, I used to have a thread for Big Brother and Rockstar over on the Non Lost groups.
You're all welcome to join if you can find it.
Ferrel 07-06-2006, 06:56 PM ROCKSTAR: INXS
was one of the best shows I've ever seen with talent that is unmatchable by any of these people.
I don't know about that. Can't tell after only one night, but your right in that last year's show oozed with talent. Turns out my wife knows one of Lucas Rossi's old band mates. He was in a now defunct local Toronto band called Cleavage. Six degrees, eh.
gusthepolarbear 07-06-2006, 10:06 PM i missed the end of the elimination episodes its cool that they can choose the song i didnt even watch the elimination shows last time cause i dont like inxs but can someone post who was eliminated and what they sang last night and what everyone sang for the elimination show besides the duran duran guy i saw him
waltisfuture 07-07-2006, 12:30 AM ^and brooke?
thanks for this thread i was wondering when it started
i liked the last one too and marty was my favourite though i am glad he didnt win cause i dont like inxs
I loved Marty too. I downloaded his 'trees' song and listened to it many, many times.
You and me up in the trees
and the forests will echo with laughter
Did I remember right? Now I have to go find it again and listen to it.
Dilana was just creepy... i honestly didn't find it all that good and that dancing (jumping up and down like she needed meds) at the end was just bad... Matt was terrible
She was the only performer I gave a 10, and I voted for her a whole bunch. Super Nova obviously liked her too, cuz she got the encore performance tonight. It wasn't as good as her first performance though.
The dude from Toronto (Lucas) looked like he thought he was going to get the encore. I actually really like him and his rockstar attitude. Tommy saying last night "can you say f f f rockstar", then throwing down the mike made his ego swell just a tad. The fact that he's Canadian makes me like a proud momma.
The girl from Vancouver was a bit of a disappointment though. It's pretty early to tell who's got what it takes, but the bottom 3 were spot on tonight.
Duran Duran .... WHAT??? Last night they told him they wanted to hear something dirtier (or something like that) and he said he was looking forward to it, then he picks that band??? He must be kicking himself right now.
If you haven't checked out the website you definately should. It is really well done.
http://rockstar.msn.com/
Danni 07-07-2006, 09:54 AM Marty Casey still rocks.
I loved Marty and still have him in my head singing Wish You Were Here -- as well as Jordis doing Imagine. I hope there are some performances this year to compare to that level - last night - not yet imo.
Turns out my wife knows one of Lucas Rossi's old band mates. He was in a now defunct local Toronto band called Cleavage. Six degrees, eh.
Well this is Canada and we all know each other....... :lol2:
ps Walt - "forests will echo with laughter" has shades of Stairway to Heaven ;)
Ferrel 07-07-2006, 10:30 AM i missed the end of the elimination episodes its cool that they can choose the song i didnt even watch the elimination shows last time cause i dont like inxs but can someone post who was eliminated and what they sang last night and what everyone sang for the elimination show besides the duran duran guy i saw him
Recap
Lucas ruffled a few feathers with the other rockers, after performance night, when he put Dana on the spot. He asked her who she thought the bottom 3 would be. Then wouldn't answer the question himself, and just said he thought a lot of the performances sucked. When Dave Navarro called him on it, he finally named Chris, Dana, and Jenny.
Dilana was requested to encore her performance of Lithium.
Chris was the first named to the bottom 3 and did The Doors - L.A. Women. (sucked)
Phil was the second and did Switchfoot - Stars (sucked worst than Chris)
Matt did Duran Duran - This Is Planet Earth (what??????) and was promptly dismissed.

Danni 07-12-2006, 11:55 AM :hesaid:
I can't hardly wait to see what Dilana does next
love her or hate her - she's not boring
kayid23 07-12-2006, 11:56 AM I really didn't like any of them last night.
And does anyone else get the feeling that Chris is trying to be like Marty?
gusthepolarbear 07-12-2006, 09:47 PM oops missed the elimination show. it was tonight right?
fourthpoliceman 07-13-2006, 01:28 AM oops missed the elimination show. it was tonight right? Yup it was on tonight and I think the wrong rocker got voted off. Zayra performed the SAME song from last night and didn't impress. But when all was said and done, Because Chris had been in the bottom 3 two weeks in a row.. they gave him the boot.
wanders01 07-13-2006, 07:42 AM Wow. Watched the show last night and was so in thought with the Super Nova. While Chris wasn't bad to look at all I could think of is Adam Sandler in the Wedding Singer. However, Nad that's the one that gets me into trouble all the time....I don't think Zayda has a clue what a hard rock metal band does. I think she'd be great for a warm up act for Shakira but not on stange with TL and group.
And I'm in agreement with those of you who thought Marty was the one last year...J.D. wasn't my first choice either. :clapping:
Danni 07-13-2006, 09:40 AM someone mention Marty??
he was great - does anyone know how he's doing, is he touring?
100%
and just what is with the duplicate songs???????
can they not think up new ones with which to entertain us????????
twilightsun 07-13-2006, 02:06 PM The duplicate songs are definitely lame. We've gotten those in two ways: Chris and Zayda singing the same songs two nights in a row, and some songs are being reused from Rockstar: INXS. "Heart-Shaped Box" was definitely used last time around.
I would've been content with any of the bottom three going home this week, but I think Zayda should've left before Chris. She's just too bizarre; these guys play heavy metal. She doesn't get it. Then again, I thought Dilana's performance this week was too creepy, but they loved it.
Danni 07-13-2006, 02:22 PM creepy can be a good thing, especially with this crowd
personally I love Dilana, and my husband loves her voice too - very unique sounding
QueenElessar 07-13-2006, 03:27 PM I want Lucas to take it!!!
Maybe I'm biased because he's Canadian...but he's so damn cheeky...I can't get enough of him. The problem with a lot of these shows where people compete as singers...is that it always looks a little bit like they're hamming it up. It's rare that you find someone who walks onto the stage and just owns it. Lucas has that. Whenever he performs it doesn't look fake...even though he is "out there". He just has this great prescence. His voice isn't typical...but there's just something completely unique about him...and the way he sings and performs that draws me in.
It's the same with Dilana...and if it can't be Lucas...I want it to be her.
waltisfuture 07-14-2006, 12:35 AM I want Lucas to take it!!!

I couldn't agree more. Isn't it great that with only 2 Canadians to pick from, one of them is a f f f Rockstar (to quote TLee)
I really like the Australian too, and thought he deserved the encore. (which was pretty easy to get this week, due to some lamo performances)
Danni, I saw something on the Rockstar website about tour dates with Marty and the Lovehammers listed. I didn't stop and smell the roses, so I don't know if his band is backing up SuperNova's tour. If anyone knows please share with us.
fourthpoliceman 07-14-2006, 03:52 AM And I'm in agreement with those of you who thought Marty was the one last year...J.D. wasn't my first choice either. :clapping:
Only INXS has been doing great with JD as their front man... obviously, it worked out.
wanders01 07-14-2006, 07:14 AM Only INXS has been doing great with JD as their front man... obviously, it worked out.
It may have worked out for INXS but I still liked Marty better. I found J. D. a little to phoney for me. He came across as someone who was playing the role of what he felt they wanted...not his true persona. But that's why we are all entitled to opinions.
Danni 07-14-2006, 09:24 AM yeah I know INXS has been doing great, and JD is doing great
and that's all great -- really
just want to know that Marty is happy and happening and doing great too
he's so sweet and so talented
and lately this is the only site I've been visiting, except to check on some eagles
so thanx for info Walt, I may check out Marty a bit more when I have some time
maybe this weekend
also agree with you on Toby - the Australian - he's really really good (maybe even great :lol2:)
Ferrel 07-14-2006, 12:32 PM Hmmm. So Chris goes home and Zayra stays. I suppose watching the train wreck called Zayra is better for the ratings than the mushroom cloud called Chris. It is still a reality show after all.
gusthepolarbear 07-14-2006, 01:20 PM i think if marty won last year INXS would have ruined him so i am glad he came second so he is free to be unique and original
Danni 07-14-2006, 01:40 PM ^ there's a wonderful way to look at it
now I don't feel so bad for Marty
thanx, gus
fourthpoliceman 07-14-2006, 02:57 PM Now back to Supernova for a second. How was Zayra not booted off. They 'hated her song the first time' and she chose to perform it again! That says to me, she either didn't have anything else to sing, as in not prepared, or didn't have the time to learn anything else. Chris' second performance and cover of Tonic was astounding. I understand too little, too late, but.
Danni 07-14-2006, 04:41 PM yeah, I totally agree
how can they hate it one night, and not the next
hate it so bad they don't think she understands what their music is all about???
I just turned to hubby and said, Well she'll be the next to go
but you never know ;)
(and thanx for keeping us on topic 4th)
fourthpoliceman 07-15-2006, 03:25 AM In all honesty, I wanna know and hear what type of music Supernova's gonna attempt to make. No disrespecting the legends Tommy and company are, but they're all in a sense 'has beens'. Unlike INSX, who's frontman died, the rockers of Supernova were all part of bands that lived past it's glory days. G n' R, and Metallica? How many albums did they sell for their last album? I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet it didn't set any records.
kayid23 07-15-2006, 10:00 PM For everyone who's a Marty fan and doesn't have the new "MC and Lovehammers" CD... It's great, I suggest buying it. I've been a fan of Marty for a while before RS:INXS even came on TV... He's changed... Idk if for the better.
There are only two 'rockers' this season who deserve any credit... and they're the two who got the encores. I think they could both go all the way. Or the girl who did "Bring Me to Life" when she was in the bottom 3.
Last year, I could tell you all of their names.
This year... I just find them so... bleah.
BTW: Metallica and GnR still rock. Sometimes seperate members *ahem gilby and jason* suck seperately. Thank you. (But... Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted, Gilby Clarke?! There couldn't have been worse people they would put together and say "MAKE A BAND". I dobut they will EVER go anywhere past something to watch on TV while all the good shows are off for the summer...)
100%
someone mention Marty??
he was great - does anyone know how he's doing, is he touring?
I've gotten word (yes, actually word) from the band themselves, that they will be on tour soon.
Or at least that's what they said.
But, he and his band, the lovehammers, were on tour with INXS for the NA part that they did.
Marty's Website (http://www.martycasey.org)
for more info...
Danni 07-17-2006, 10:05 AM Wow - thanx kayid -- great information
back on topic -- last year was way better than this year -- and I hope Dilana, Lukas and Toby go the distance since they are the only ones I'm really interested in watching
Ferrel 07-17-2006, 10:13 AM For all who are interested, here's the song list for week 3.
Patrice Helter Skelter (The Beatles)
Josh Come As You Are (Nirvana)
Storm Just What I Needed (The Cars)
Lukas Lets Spend the Night Together (The Rolling Stones)
Jill All Right Now (Free)
Ryan Fortunate Son (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Phil White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane) [with Jason on bass]
Dana Its My Life (Bon Jovi)
Toby Runaway Train (Soul Asylum)
Magni Plush (Stone Temple Pilots)
Zayra Everybody Hurts (R.E.M.)
Jenny Drive (Incubus)
Dilana Zombie (The Cranberries)
gusthepolarbear 07-17-2006, 11:14 AM sounds good
zombies a great song for dilana
zayras gonna ruin everybody hurts
Ferrel 07-17-2006, 05:06 PM sounds good
zombies a great song for dilana
zayras gonna ruin everybody hurts
Don't look if you don't want to be spoiled. From reviews by those who were at yesterday's taping, the best 2 performances were...
Dilana and Lukas
Danni 07-18-2006, 09:13 AM love those spoilers - going to love the show tonight, I just know it
btw - what is up with Gilbey's hair :eek2: - for a rock star, his hair is just not cool
gusthepolarbear 07-18-2006, 10:04 PM so pre show reviews turned out to be correct zayra wasnt as bad as i expected. I dont think it would hurt if they diversified the song choices a little bit. I think some of them are starting to get a little repetitive. I dont know what supernova are expecting these performers to rock out with some of the song choices they are giving them.
Ferrel 07-19-2006, 01:10 AM For week 3, I have to say Magni was my fav. Patrice, Lukas, and Dilana were tops for me as well, though sometimes I just can't understand the words Lukas is singing.
Jenny, Dana, and Zayra are my bottom 3. I'm guessing Dana goes, even though I find Zayra annoying.
fourthpoliceman 07-19-2006, 02:15 AM Had a blast with Lucas and Dilhana. Great vocals and entertaining to watch.
wanders01 07-19-2006, 07:23 AM What a wide range of vocals. Zayra seemed like Celine doing R.E.M. and no surprise Dilana and Lukas rocked! Little disappointed in Toby though...not his best and loved the "google" comment. (I didn't bother..didn't care to see "more" of her)
lostgurl 07-19-2006, 10:53 AM I dont know why that girl fought so hard for that Helter Skelter song, she stunk at it.
I love Dilana, I think she knows exactly who she is and what she can do. Lucas is a good singer but I hate his attitude. I was hoping Toby would do better too, but they were kind of stuck with song choices this week.
QueenElessar 07-19-2006, 04:36 PM No change for me this week...Dilana and Lucas are still completely tops! ...with perhaps a slight edge for Lucas just because he's Canadian ;)
gusthepolarbear 07-19-2006, 10:03 PM I agree thems are my favourite two also with the canadian edge for lucas
where is ferel with the synopsis for tonights eppy cause i was working for it and missed it
fourthpoliceman 07-20-2006, 01:49 AM don't think Jen should have gotten the boot. Though I couldn't see her winning the whole thing, there were plenty of others that should have got booted off first. One less canadian.. boooo.
gusthepolarbear 07-20-2006, 11:07 AM and zayra is still on the show? and that guy who sounds like he should be in the backstreet boys. go lucas!
Ferrel 07-20-2006, 12:12 PM Had to agree with SN. I haven't really liked any of Jenny's performances. Dana and Josh will be gone soon enough. Ditto for Zayra.
gusthepolarbear 07-20-2006, 10:46 PM wait i just noticed its pretty much just canadians on this thread is it because jd was canadian and now et and global are pushing the go lucas and jenny propaganda at us?
Danni 07-21-2006, 09:44 AM no, we just don't get a lot of good tv here in the summer :lol2:
Ferrel 07-21-2006, 12:17 PM Yeah, Rockstar gets very good ratings in Canada, not so much in the States. In fact the ratings are good enough that Global is airing the Monday reality webisode. I don't think any other country is doing that. We Canadians do love our rock. (and beer, eh)
fourthpoliceman 07-21-2006, 05:20 PM no, we just don't get a lot of good tv here in the summer :lol2: I'd make the arguement against this. I lived in Chicago for 4 years and recently moved back to Canada just less than a year ago. With their overbearing FCC, our stations get away with much more, and besides, we get all their best programming anyway.
twilightsun 07-21-2006, 08:24 PM Yeah, Rockstar gets very good ratings in Canada, not so much in the States. In fact the ratings are good enough that Global is airing the Monday reality webisode. I don't think any other country is doing that. We Canadians do love our rock. (and beer, eh)
Aww man, I wish they were airing the webisodes here, too. I don't like other reality shows, but I enjoy watching the song selection and rehearsal process. I don't really get to watch the webisodes because I work on my computer while watching TV.
Oh well.
jvince 07-23-2006, 04:29 AM Dilana is gonna win! Man, she's so awesome. Never had a weak performance.
fourthpoliceman 07-23-2006, 11:27 PM Dilana is gonna win! Man, she's so awesome. Never had a weak performance.
Though I agree with you... I just don't know if the guys will want a female frontman. They'd, IMO, lose some credibility in the industry if they went with a female. Unfair, but maybe just the way it is?
Danni 07-24-2006, 09:22 AM I'd make the arguement against this. I lived in Chicago for 4 years and recently moved back to Canada just less than a year ago. With their overbearing FCC, our stations get away with much more, and besides, we get all their best programming anyway.
yeah, you're likely right. we showed The Osbourne's without any bleeping and the American channel bleeped out all the f-words, so basically a good 80% was bleeps and it got really distracting so I just kept watching it on the Cdn channel.
I just watch way more tv in the non-summer months.
100%
Dilana is gonna win! Man, she's so awesome. Never had a weak performance.
thanks, jvince -- you just jinxed her
(kidding ;) sort of)
gusthepolarbear 07-24-2006, 10:28 PM tomorrows show looks good, supernova's songs sound better than i expected from those clowns. what was with lukas wandering around like he had ADD?
Danni 07-25-2006, 09:26 AM I'm starting to wonder if Lukas is acting like the bad boy since that was one of the things that INXS liked about JD - a bit of the rebel, not following all the rules. That's part of his thing to make him stand out from the others.
Ferrel 07-25-2006, 09:55 AM The song list for week 4.
Lukas Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve)
Zayra Call Me (Blondie)
Dana About a Girl (Nirvana)
Patrice Remedy (The Black Crowes)
Toby White Wedding (Billy Idol)
Magni Heroes (David Bowie)
Ryan I Alone (Live)
Jill Brown Sugar (The Rolling Stones) - with Gilby on guitar
Phil One Headlight (The Wallflowers)
Dilana Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper) - with Jim solo on acoustic guitar
Josh No Rain (Blind Melon)
Storm Anything Anything (Dramarama)
Danni 07-25-2006, 10:11 AM thanx Ferrel
once again, cannot wait to see Dilana's performance
wanders01 07-26-2006, 07:19 AM WOW Another night of mixed drama! Could Dave been any clearer to Zayda? He more or less told her to get on with her life...that it wasn't with Super Nova!! As a big fan of LIVE , I really enjoyed hearing I alone but once again Lukas and Dilana rocked. Such potential and only one job:confused:
My choice for "dismissal......Patrice she was so lackluster that I almost fell asleep.
Danni 07-26-2006, 09:12 AM They could make it really interesting and give both Patrice and Zayra the boot tonight - shake things up a bit
If they can get rid of 2 people in one night on Survivor, Tommy should be able to do it here
and instead of saying "this really sucks" he could say "this is really easy for a change"
Totally  Dilana -- that girl could have her own show
gusthepolarbear 07-26-2006, 10:10 AM bottom three for me was patrice, zayra and phil
QueenElessar 07-26-2006, 10:31 AM Yeah...I really think DILANA should win. She nails it every time...and she's never afraid to try anything different. She looks so comfortable on stage...and not like she's competing in a cheesy competition
Lucas was good as usual...but I'm starting to understand where Jason is coming from about the vocal thing. He's constricting himself and it will be interesting to see if he CAN open it up.
I was really impressed with Dana vocally last night. She has an amazing voice! I think that she'll stick around a little longer on the power of that if she can pick good material. But in the end she would never be right for the band because she isn't really a rockstar. She just has really good pipes.
Patrice bored me, Toby irritates me, I liked Magni (even if he DID stand behind a guitar. Newsflash...plenty of rockstars do that...maybe it's not their style...but it's fairly common)
Storm was FANTASTIC (I bet she'll get the encore this week), Jill is just slutty (I love that Gilby called her out for grinding with him. Josh is a soul singer....I don't even know what he's doing there, Ryan was good I guess...meh it seemed predictable...and Zayara...ERRR. I mean the thing is that I think she's really good....but she's obviously auditioning for a different band.
Ferrel 07-26-2006, 10:40 AM Zayra must go. I just cannot listen to her for another week. I feel embarassed for her when I watch one of her performances. Eeek. Fingernails on a blackboard. Hopefully I'll only hear her one more time, as she tries to save herself tonight.
Josh and Phil were the others who made my bottom 3.
My favs for the night were Dana, Ryan, Dilana, and Lukas. Dana really showed some edge. Ryan's angry rocker 'tude really fit I Alone. Dilana's and Lukas's performances were great, but after 4 weeks, I'm starting to see their limited range. No matter.
I'm still going with Lukas as the winner, but not for the reasons you might think. In every song Lukas has done, he has taken his song and re-arranged it into a heavier, modern rock song. Updating the sound so to speak. This, I think, is what SN wants. They need a youthful ear, good at arranging, to modernize the material they have already written. Giving the band the edginess that is so important in modern rock these days. Throw in a commanding stage presence and a decent voice, and you have your front man. IMO, of course.
Danni 07-26-2006, 11:10 AM okay, we're done here
:lol2:
100%
that's actually a very good theory and it will be interesting to see how accurately that plays out
gusthepolarbear 07-26-2006, 08:56 PM GET RID OF ZAYRA!!!!
by the way who called the bottom three? ha ha ha
twilightsun 07-26-2006, 09:48 PM Are you kidding me? I can't believe Zayra is still here. Did you see the look on all of the other rockers' faces? They couldn't believe it. Zayra is going to have a rough week in the house, because I have a feeling no one's going to let her forget she should have gone home this week.
wanders01 07-27-2006, 07:14 AM Gotta hand it to Patrice...............She really stepped it up! Phil needed to go but I'm surprised he was the sacrifice to the ROCK GOD this week. It should have been Ms.Z. If I was Debbie Harry I would not have been amused. I didn't know the song she did last night but she still doesn't understand what a singer in a hard rock band is . They must be keeping her because she looks good on stage........TL like women that look good.
Danni 07-27-2006, 09:14 AM so who is :cnsored2: :excl::bann:  :badwords: um, dating Zayra ?
they must be keeping her around for some reason
amusement???
*** totally confused ***
waltisfuture 07-27-2006, 09:33 AM They could make it really interesting and give both Patrice and Zayra the boot tonight - shake things up a bit
I said the same thing to my man, but I meant Zayra and Phil. I am so glad I don't every have to see him do his pouty lip when he gets put in the bottom 3. What self respecting rocker does that???
I was really impressed with Dana vocally last night. She has an amazing voice! I think that she'll stick around a little longer on the power of that if she can pick good material. Dana has certainly come out of her shell. Rock on girlfriend. She speaks to the band really well too, and doesn't seem intimidated by them like some of the others do. Jill, for example, babbles until she sticks her foot in her mouth. I liked her at first, but she's talked her way out of my top picks.
I'm curious why Toby irritates you. I really liked him at first, but the past 2 weeks he's been a big bore.
I've got my eye on Magni. I was sure he was gone in the first show, but he's impressed me ever since. Remember the first few weeks with JD, when he was still all Elvisy and cheesy? Maybe Magni will be like that and just get better every week. (how about Kelly Clarkson ... noone remembers her until the end of the competition)
Zayra must go. I just cannot listen to her for another week. I feel embarassed for her when I watch one of her performances. Eeek. Fingernails on a blackboard. Hopefully I'll only hear her one more time, as she tries to save herself tonight.

I have to leave the room when Zayra performs ... and I totally get embarrassed for her. ;)
I think you nailed it on why Lukas is appealing. I love how they show his reaction to everything, especially when others are being complimented and he does the lame clap, just cuz he has too. Love ya Lukas, but it's not a given quite yet. He better pull something out of his bag o tricks in the next few weeks.
Are you kidding me? I can't believe Zayra is still here. Did you see the look on all of the other rockers' faces? They couldn't believe it. Zayra is going to have a rough week in the house, because I have a feeling no one's going to let her forget she should have gone home this week.
I think she even said "unbelievable" when she rejoined them. Toby was catching flies when they announced she made it AGAIN :mad:
Obviously she makes for better TV. It makes no sense when Phil outperformed her by a mile. Are the band loosing credibility by keeping her?
Gotta hand it to Patrice...............She really stepped it up! Phil needed to go but I'm surprised he was the sacrifice to the ROCK GOD this week. It should have been Ms.Z. I grew up listening to Debra Harry, and she stunk it up. I find she has weird timing and I'm sick of her. I hope we don't have to talk about her next week.
Danni 07-27-2006, 10:01 AM I said the same thing to my man, but I meant Zayra and Phil. I am so glad I don't every have to see him do his pouty lip when he gets put in the bottom 3. What self respecting rocker does that???
.
that was definitely irritating and I agree with you on that 108%
again totally confused about Zayra  - they were laughing at her when she was doing that blue spandex performance (and I use that term loosely here)
where is Ferrel - he will explain the whole Zayra thing to us, I'm sure
otherwise there is no meaning to this :frusty:

You put too much faith in me  But of course I have a theory.
First off, this is a reality TV Show, not an audition for a lead singer. I believe, just like last year, the lead singer has already been decided. Let me explain that. Record companies rarely do things on a whim. INXS needed a singer that could immitate Michael Hutchinson for, basically, a greatest hits tour. Only JD could cover the INXS back catalog. Fans want to hear the songs performed true to the albums. Could you see Marty doing that? Didn't matter who was the more talented.
So IF the lead singer has already been chosen, the order of elimination is determined for reasons other than talent. Maybe Zayra is better for ratings, or provides a controversy that generates a lot of interest on the message boards. People may just tune in to see how bad, bad can get. Or maybe the reason Phil was eliminated wasn't aired on TV. Nearly half the dialogue between SN and the Rockers doesn't make the edit. This is from a guy that was at the taping of the results show.
Originally there was a quote here from a poster at another board. At his request I have deleted it. Basically it said there was newspaper with an interview with Phil. In the interview Phil said the only reason he was doing the show was for publicity and he didn't even like SN's music. We never saw it on TV, but Dave Navarro called him on it. It is assumed that Phil got the boot for his comments in that interview.
So there you have a good reason for the "You're not commited enough" comment. Bye bye Phil, Zayra can go next week.
Some other things.
Radiohead was one of my favorite bands (before Kid A anyways), and I loved Patrice's Iron Lung. Way to go, you killed it. (Funny how it's good to kill a song, but bad to murder it  )
Now K's Choice is not a popular band, and I'm Not an Addict is not a popular song, don't even know if they are still together, but I know that song very well. Zayra, you murdered it. The interpretation was all wrong. The phrasing was way, way off. And, vocally, as I've stated before... fingernails, blackboard.
Phil does Smoking Umbrella by Failure. Never heard of the song or the band. So I can't comment on how well he did it, but I thought he was better than Z. Phil, hope you find success along another road.
And that's the way I see it, for today, Thursday, July 27, 2006.
Danni 07-27-2006, 11:56 AM You put too much faith in me  And that's the way I see, for today, Thursday, July 27, 2006.
apparently not
*cannot find appropriate smilie for here*
thanks and wow
gusthepolarbear 07-27-2006, 12:17 PM yeah thats much more interesting than what aired

thanks and wow
It's too bad that part didn't make the air! It would have given insight to Phil departure.
Danni 07-27-2006, 12:55 PM that's why we have our handy-dandy Rockstar thread at the Fuselage :lol2:
October 07-27-2006, 01:16 PM I definetly think Dana's getting better vocally, but if I were her, I would completly tell them off for trying to get me to be more "dirty" on stage. I know that's their band(or at least, according to some of them), but that is *not* what rock 'n' roll is all about. Rock 'n' roll, essentially, is about the music and how you feel about it. It's not about dressing slutty or a contest for how many peircings and tatoos you have.
I also think Dilana will win...as far as the girls goes, she seems like she would fit in most comfortably with Supernova, though I really like Storm too.
And Zara(whatever the spelling is...), I liked her the first night because she sounded differeny and I was hoping she'd get better, but, well, she hasn't. I couldn't believe they voted Phil off and not her. I'm not a big fan of him, but he's someone who could probably do better if you gave him another chance. All Zara(whatever...)'s had is more chances.
All and all, I definetly agree that last season was WAY better. I remember, at first, how hard it was to pick a favorite. Also, imo, a lot of who's the lead singer- if not all of it- does depend on the show. After all, it's the fans who are going to be buying the concert tickets, and they want to know what they think.
Ferrel 07-27-2006, 01:47 PM Also, imo, a lot of who's the lead singer- if not all of it- does depend on the show. After all, it's the fans who are going to be buying the concert tickets, and they want to know what they think.
OK, I'll give a bit. I still think, going in, they have a good idea of who their man/woman is. But if SN's pick winds up in the bottom 3 week after week, they would have to change their minds. Of course SN directs, or shall I say influences, the vote. Note that the rockers that get the harshest crits, usually end up in the bottom 3.
BTW, there is a great forum that gives a lot of extra insight and spoilers. Of course there is the official forum at rockstar.msn, but it is heavily moderated. For the good poop, checkout...
http://www.rockband.com/forum/default.asp
October 07-27-2006, 01:49 PM I also think that right off they have a good idea of who they want and who their favorites are. But it's important to listen to fan responses too:)

wanders01 08-01-2006, 07:22 AM Thank you once again Ferrel for the song list. You spoil us in a good way:biggrin: Some interesting choices. Of course I already know who I'd like to see go no matter what she sings..............shame on me but I think she is not ever going to be a rocker as long as she singin':rolleye1:
Danni 08-01-2006, 09:34 AM ^ totally agree
was a little surprised at Toby's chauvinistic comments - he's starting to come off as a bit of a jerk so now I wonder how much of a jerk he really is
Ferrel 08-01-2006, 10:18 AM Thank you once again Ferrel for the song list. You spoil us in a good way:biggrin: Some interesting choices. Of course I already know who I'd like to see go no matter what she sings..............shame on me but I think she is not ever going to be a rocker as long as she singin':rolleye1:
I'll join Danni in agreeing with you. Though I wouldn't feel bad if it was one of the other girls. You know the one. If you saw the reality webisode, she's the one with verbal diarrhea.
Danni 08-01-2006, 10:22 AM oh yeah, know who you mean
it's rock and roll - everything's already been done :24:
wanders01 08-02-2006, 07:24 AM What in Whomever's name was that supposed to be with Zayda? I was was laughing harder than Dave was! That 3 minutes would have been perfect for the comedy club.  I have to admit she's entertaining but not for a rock show.
What happened to Lukas? I couldn't hear all he said but it sounded liked he said he had trouble with the lyrics....and that's why his back was to us and the guys so much. If that was the case shame on him. I got the impression Dave was telling Jill, with good reason to start packing.
I was really impressed with Ryan last night. He had much more to give than I thought he was capable of. Bravo!!
Danni 08-02-2006, 08:59 AM my take on last night:
most improved - Patrice
take it or leave it - Josh & Magni
not impressed - Toby & Jill
seen it before - Lukas
okay for now - Dana
love you guys - Storm & Dilana of course
Zayra :rotflmao2:
Dave :biglaugh:
brought down the house and kicked it out the door - Ryan
lostgurl 08-02-2006, 09:07 AM Ryan was amazing..Seriously, I don't even remember anyone else last night.
Ferrel 08-02-2006, 11:33 AM OK, we're having some fun now.
My Top 3
Storm - See, you don't need those cartoon expressions.
Ryan - Surprise, surprise. An encore performance?
Dana - Girl next door turns rocker babe. "I know!!! I'm getting a tattoo tomorrow!" Too funny.
My Bottom 3
Jill - Screamed her way thru that one.
Zayra - Gold gloves, black cape. Maybe she thinks she's trying out for the role of Banshee in the next X-Men movie.
Toby/Lukas - Can't decide. Doesn't matter, neither are leaving. Personally, I hope it's Lukas. That was just a bad song choice, and a bad performance. He needs to show us his A material. Just like Patrice did last week.
Who's leaving? Jill. I think Zayra will stick around, if only for comic relief.
Danni 08-02-2006, 11:44 AM Ryan ENCORE ----- yesssssssssssssss:clap::clap::clap:
it helps that I love that song so much to begin with
but when they mentioned baby grand
I got a shiver (first shiver this year)
(uh, from this show at least :lol2:)
and I'm really just starting to see the entertainment value in Z - she was irritating me up til now but with the guys last night --- that was really funny
Lukas is gonna step on his **** sooner or later and when that happens, that's gonna be funny, too
kayid23 08-02-2006, 02:15 PM A point I must make before I continue on:
Not everything has been done in rock and roll.
As I think anymore, due to all the bands that are alike out there: We have only scraped the surface of what we can do creativley in music...
Anywho.
My favorites from last night:
Dilana- She should win the competition. Her performances switch up from week to week and every week she is my favorite. Kudos.
Ryan- Beautiful... Gave me chills.
Zayra. Yeah, I said it. She's different. I find them all just the same besides these three. I don't like Zayra's 'pop' style, but she brings life to the competition, we all can't wait to see what she does next.
I still don't like Dana. I think she's American Idol material... This show is for rockers, not teeny-bob pop singers. I agree to dissagree... She is NOT a rocker.
Jill Ruined her song. I mean butchered it. That song isn't made to be screamed, as Tommy himself said. And you can be a hard rock GIRL without being slutty, I know that... Kudos to Gilby...
Patrice annoys me. Her voice... everything about her. I'm just glad I got to see tommy do drums.
Magni's performance was beautiful... I just don't find coldplay rock... But he made it good.
Storm always amazes me. She has a beautiful voice and stage presence. She is one of my favorites of the competition.
Being a diehard Nirvana fan of many years... I must say this about the entire show. Most of these people cannot do nirvana! Except for dilana... But please, stop ruining Nirvana tunes! If they move on to floyd, I might have to punch someone.
Speaking of Nirvana... Toby didn't do Pennyroyal justice last night... at all. Kurt is looking down cusing these people right now... (IMO... don't freak out people)
That dude who did Sublime... eh he was so so. Another American Idol wannabe. But once again, my opinion.
Power to the women of rock!!! I really enjoy watching this because the rock stereotype is male... But it's not like that...
Danni 08-02-2006, 02:57 PM oh yeah, know who you mean
it's rock and roll - everything's already been done :24:
A point I must make before I continue on:
Not everything has been done in rock and roll.
...
just so you know - I was quoting Jill when I made that reference - it's certainly not my personal belief
she said that last week, all the guys went Nooooooooooooo and Tommy even gave her a "buzzer" with his thumb on the table ---- totally wrong answer there missy
I shoulda "quoted" and referenced it -- sorry about any confusion.
just to make that point clear.
one thing I really like about these shows is the opportunity to see stuff that hasn't been done yet, thanks Dilana
wanders01 08-03-2006, 07:17 AM No surprise last night. Dana was going to happen sooner or later...they might have even saved her life:biggrin: Just kidding. Patrice was lucky but as she's very bland in my opinion it's only a matter of time. It will be exciting to see just who has the talent to come up with a good song!! Can't wait to hear them!
QueenElessar 08-03-2006, 09:20 AM I think they should have kicked out Jill instead of Dana. She has been improving every week...and she was really GOOD the last two weeks. Plus, as Jason pointed out, she has a really good attitude...and Jill does NOT. Dana would have given them much more to work with. I didn't see Jill's performance last night though...I missed it...but whatever
I was dissapointed in Lucas this week. It was such a 'blah' performance...and if he really didn't have the song down...then there's no excuse for that.
I am more and more convinced that Dilana needs to win. Whatever she does...I love it to death....
But I have to give it up to Ryan this week...who knew he could do that???
Ferrel 08-03-2006, 10:04 AM Aw, I liked Dana. Oh well, she wasn't going to win anyway. Just thought we would get a little more of the "good" girl turned "bad" storyline. Guess Mark Burnett prefers the drama supplied by Jill and Z. It's his show, I suppose he can do what he likes. Thought I had this show pretty much figured out. Hah, shows how much I know. Only one of my B3 predictions were correct, and one of my T3 was in the B3. But that's the fun of it. Keeps me guessing.
Next week should be interesting. I want to see what Lukas and Dilana come up with. More than that though, what Z comes up with. Ah, the thot plickens.
Danni 08-04-2006, 09:25 AM there's a plot ? :eek2:
sorry, there's a thot ? :eek2:
Ferrel 08-04-2006, 11:33 AM there's a plot ? :eek2:
sorry, there's a thot ? :eek2:
Maybe just a little. ;)
BTW. In my last post I said I was looking forward to seeing what Lukas, Dilana and especially Z come up with. I was referring to the challenge Gilby gave the remaining rockers. Writing melody and lyrics for one of the SN tracks. Don't think I was very clear there.
QueenElessar 08-04-2006, 11:52 AM Ferrel - EGADS! You just reminded me that we're not only going to be subjected to Zayaras crappy performances next week...but also her song writing "abilities" as well...:fear3:

Yup, it's like that point in a horror movie when you cover you're eyes, yet peek through your fingers. Or maybe in this case I should say, cover your ears. Should be fun(ny).
Danni 08-04-2006, 01:17 PM this will separate the men from the boys
the have's from the have not's
the :squirrel: :squirrel: :squirrel: from the :bunny: :bunny::bunny:
(sorry, I will be serious next week)
(maybe)
gusthepolarbear 08-06-2006, 04:29 PM missed this weeks episodes due to a vacation isolated in the isolated abyss aka pei love the place but i have to catch up on all the stuff i missed
gonna have to watch performances on the website i guess hope they're up to par
100%
ok so now im caught up, i really like dilana she has the versatility and finishing power the spider lady didnt have last year.
storm and ryan had great performances
cant say i dont disagree with the elimination mostly because zayra is just interest u know the way car crashs are interesting and shes more attractive
gusthepolarbear 08-07-2006, 10:54 PM i dont know about dilanas writing abilities
should be interesting o hear lucas do creep because i love radiohead
Ferrel 08-08-2006, 12:32 AM Week 6 song list
Dilana - Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who)
Jill - Mother Mother (Tracy Bonham)
Ryan - Paint It Black (The Rolling Stones)
Storm - We Are the Champions (Queen)
Zayra - All the Young Dudes (David Bowie/Mott the Hoople)
Josh - Interstate Love Song (Stone Temple Pilots)
Magni - The Dolphin's Cry (Live)
Patrice - Instant Karma (John Lennon)
Lukas - Creep (Radiohead)
Toby - Burning Down the House (Talking Heads)
Danni 08-08-2006, 09:32 AM notice they didn't show Zayra's stuff last night :wink3:
it wasn't good enough?
it wasn't bad enough?
thanx once again for song list Ferrel
QueenElessar 08-08-2006, 11:04 AM ooooh...that song list is exciting!
I think Jill will butcher Mother Mother because whenever she tries to do singing where it's throaty and there's screaming, she makes me want to rip my ears off! Remember Courtney Love? :fear3:
Don't know that Who song that Dilana's doing...but I can't wait to see it anyways!
LOVE Magni's Live song...I think he'll rock it.
Should be a fabulous week...My highest point of interest it whether Ryan can live up to all his hype from last week
Ferrel 08-08-2006, 11:49 AM ooooh...that song list is exciting!

If you have ever seen CSI: Miami, Won't Get Fooled Again, is the theme song.
100%
notice they didn't show Zayra's stuff last night :wink3:
it wasn't good enough?

thanx once again for song list Ferrel
and no Patrice or Josh.

100%
I avoid all CSI incarnations like the plague ;)...LOL
kayid23 08-08-2006, 12:40 PM Though I agree with you... I just don't know if the guys will want a female frontman. They'd, IMO, lose some credibility in the industry if they went with a female. Unfair, but maybe just the way it is?
... I just went back through the thread and read this post and had to input my opinion...
Why would it ruin their credibility? Once again, the rock stereotype makes it almost impossible for anyone to see the band with a female singer, yet Dilana has the most powerful stage presence and voice of any of the 'rockers' on the show.
For bands like Heart, Blondie, and The Pretenders all had female members. And they've all gone down in history as some of the best rock and roll bands.
alright i'm done... Althought there is much more I could say, I don't want to get too off topic. Just being a musician and a female, and a rock musician, this post just got me a bit mad... :undecide:

don't forget Annie Lennox - one of the best
kayid23 08-08-2006, 01:29 PM janis joplin, courtney love, melissa etheridge, grace slick, sheryl crow, bonnie rait, linda rondstat, carole king, carly simon, cydni lauper... the list goes on and on.
Ferrel 08-08-2006, 06:22 PM If anyone wants to see the full length versions of the lyrics and melody challenge, for every rocker, head over to...
http://www.rockstar.msn.com
Probably need broadband though.
gusthepolarbear 08-08-2006, 09:31 PM yeah, though i agree with you as far as how much chicks rock and love all the above mentioned female rockers somehow i think tommy lee and co. are probably a little sexist and there is still a greater concentration of male rockers for example if i started listing them it wold be very long, i know, sad but true
ETA ryan kinda freaked me out with his performance. is zayra on drugs? lucas was ok but he wasnt as good as marty. i missed the first two performances but i will assume dilana was good and jill wasnt. magni is once again magnificent
October 08-09-2006, 02:19 AM I thought it was a pretty good episode...even Zarah wasn't *that* bad to me...I have to admit, though, that wasn't the best version of "We Are the Champions" I've heard and, imo, Storm looked better with the straight hair in the 'Law and Order' look, as I called it:p
As for Josh, I really liked his performance last week, and I never enjoy his...imo, he needs to stick to stuff like he did last week instead of this 'soul' stuff. I liked hearing him on the guitar though:)
And Dilana did awsome, as always :D She seems like she'd be a good person(though you can never tell:rolleyes:), and I think she's my favorite. As of now, I hope she gets picked for the :band:
But does anyone else have a problem with the way they advertise rock 'n' roll on this show? I mean, they make it appear as being all about dressing trashy and a contest for who can have the worst tatoos and piercing. Last year, it was hardly about that at all. I'm really ashamed of that:mad:
wanders01 08-09-2006, 07:08 AM Patrice Zayda, Jill were my picks before they showed the early results. I don't know if that means I'm average or if it is just obvious?:undecide:
QueenElessar 08-09-2006, 09:19 AM I think Toby should be in the bottom three...he's starting to annoy the CRAP out of me! He just sounds 'blah' every week...and then everytime the judges say they didn't agree with one of his choices he has explain what it symbolizes and how he's reaching out to the audience  . I feel bad for Patrice...even when she does well...people just don't like her...I thought she did great, but I still don't like her! LOL
I thought Lucas kicked BUTT last night. Good to see him return to form. I was just waiting to hear Jason say that he finally opened up his vocal cords...'cause he's been so on about that...lol ;). Dilana was amazing as always. She just never really misteps...which is something that I don't think anyone else can say. And it's so true that she always looks completely natural like she's not auditioning for anything. Ryan on the other hand looked so funny trying to pull his number off. Vocally it was great, but he looked messed up the entire time. Magni was WOW! I love that song and he KILLED it!
Ferrel 08-09-2006, 11:15 AM Great show last night. Everyone is so much better than they were in that first week.
My favs last night. Magni and Lukas.
Finally Lukas. Took him long enough to bring it. It's almost like he was holding back or at least not showing all his cards in the first weeks. I hope he continues along this path. He's been my fav and pick for the job since week 1. (I'm such a home boy.)
Magni, I think, was better than Lukas last night and really could front SN, but... is this whole caring father and family man storyline leading to the reason why SN won't pick him????
My bottom 3 were Z and Jill. Wait, that's only 2. OK, Toby. He's in my bottom 3 just for playing the "JD Fortune" card. A megaphone with your country's flag on it. That was soooo last year.
Can Z go tonight? Please, please, pretty please? The joke's over, time's up. Patrice, even though she didn't make my personal bottom 3, might be in danger for being a Sheryl Crow clone. Not that there's is anything wrong with Sheryl Crow. I love her, but she wouldn't fit with SN either.

I gotta admit...Lucas always had the edge with me because he was Canadian. And it would definitely be cool to see someone from Toronto win!
But one thing that is REALLY starting to get on my nerves is the way that CH advertises Rockstar as if Lucas was the only person on the show! ROFL. The current commerical is just "this week on Rockstar, will Canada's Lucas push it too far?" and then there's a clip of where Dave said he was arrogant than paused and said he loved that!
wanders01 08-09-2006, 02:04 PM Great show last night. Everyone is so much better than they were in that first week.

waltisfuture 08-09-2006, 02:30 PM Magni, I think, was better than Lukas last night and really could front SN, but... is this whole caring father and family man storyline leading to the reason why SN won't pick him????
I agree completely. He fits so well with them, but they've shown too many clips about his family life, and how important it is to him.
I was soooo nervous for Lukas last night, and he Rocked my world!!!! :happy_bounce:
Everyone has really been improving each week, and I hope they keep it up. Last year I knew my top 3 favs almost all season, but this year they keep performing so well, that I get confused. Mind you Dilana and Lukas are always #1 and #2, it's #3 that keeps changing each week.
I rewatched all the clips with my kid when she got home from work, and Magni should definately get the encore. What say you?
lostgurl 08-09-2006, 02:42 PM I think Magni will get the encore this week. After last week, I'm a big Ryan fan.
Magni, Dilana, Lucas, and Ryan are the strongest IMO. I hate the way Lucas dresses and I cant stand his attitude, but he sings good.
Ferrel 08-09-2006, 02:44 PM I rewatched all the clips with my kid when she got home from work, and Magni should definately get the encore. What say you?
I think Magni should get it, but since they've already gave him one, I'm going with Lukas.
lostgurl 08-09-2006, 02:52 PM Didn't Lucas get the very first one?
Ferrel 08-09-2006, 03:49 PM Didn't Lucas get the very first one?
Don't think so. The way I remember it is...
Week 1 - Dilana - Lithium (Nirvana)
Week 2 - Toby - Somebody Told Me (The Killers)
Week 3 - Magni - Plush (Stone Temple Pilots)
Week 4 - Storm - Anything, Anything (Dramarama)
Week 5 - Ryan - Losing My Religion (REM)
Week 6 - ??? Lukas ???
Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think that's right.
QueenElessar 08-09-2006, 04:04 PM Yup that's right Ferrel. No one has gotten an encore twice yet.
So I'm betting that they WILL give Lucas the encore tonight, because he's the only one who they were wowed by last night who hasn't had one yet.
Lucas is actually the only person who's never sang twice in one week...lol. He's never been in the bottom three and he's yet to have an encore ;)
gusthepolarbear 08-09-2006, 09:11 PM double encore and double elimination. the two werent right for the band.
zayra and patrice still alive somehow i think the fans are becoming attached to them
October 08-10-2006, 01:15 AM Omg!!!
I was sooo angry about Josh being voted off! I know they shouldn't chose who they save just on their performances on Wed. night, but, imo, Josh was *way* better than Ryan. Really, if anyone should gets voted off it's Zarah:ee2:
Though I admit I liked seeing how relieved she was when she got to go to Vegas. I was happy for her, since she's not really from here and all, but still...I'm so surprised that she's still there.
fourthpoliceman 08-10-2006, 02:20 AM Omg!!!

PVR'd yesterday's episode and just saw it before tonight's elimination. I'd be willing to bet had Zayra been in the bottom three... she would have be booted off, no? But they couldn't give her the boot tonight.
As much as I think Dilana has the most genuine talent, As I posted long ago that I think that Supernova wouldn't want a woman to be their frontman.... credibility issues still stick would hurt them in the music industry. I feel a little absolved when Gilby (I think) mentioned, something along the lines "for the first time, I could picture a woman being our frontman."

Credibility issues might hurt them if they were a normal band starting up with an unknown woman...and they were trying to appeal to serious hard rock fans (MAYBE...although I still think women can rock it hard)...but you have to remember that by choosing to use Rockstar to find a new singer, they're going to be appealing to a whole new demographic. Most of the people who buy their album will be fans of the show...and that opens the audience up to tons of women...and probably scews it a little younger than it would be as well. I would never consider buying a Tommy Lee record on my own...but if Supernova picks a singer I like, I'll buy it...and I think most people probably feel the same way. I think because the audience will be much broader...it won't matter if a woman fronts them...as long as it's someone who was popular with the public (and Dilana certainly is)
Any credibility that Supernova would have in the industry is pretty much shot now that they're looking for their lead singer on a reality show ;). I mean I LOVE the show...but there are a lot of SERIOUS music fans who aren't open-minded that way. These guys are manufactured now  . Their new fans are tv fans and mainstream pop culture fans...and credibility doesn't mean squat to us. It's all about spectacle and fame ;)
Ferrel 08-10-2006, 11:27 AM First off. All you people voting for Z... STOP IT!
OK, I feel better now.
Should have known that a double elimination was coming up. They did it last year as well. Ryan did a good job on his Depeche Mode song, and deserved a 2nd chance. Jill had run out of chances. Josh never had a chance. He knew it and said so much. He went out with grace and some funnery. Good on ya.
Double encore, yea. Magni was just as good electric and he was acoustic. This guy continues to impress me. My wife, Y, says he has the most natural voice of the bunch. Kinda makes singing sound effortless and delivers an intense performance without looking staged or forced. Go Magni. I wouldn't be disappointed if he beat out Lukas. Of course my track record for predicting these things sucks. Good thing you can't bet on this. I'd be broke.
Til later... and STOP voting for Z.
kayid23 08-10-2006, 01:43 PM I'm voting for Z and Dilana.
And no I will not stop.
Josh was american idol material anyway. Sure he's a talented guitar player but his voice is deffinitley not rockstar material.
Jill was getting annoying... I'm glad she's gone.
The best TWO in the competition are Dilana and Magni. I really think it will be between them in the end.
and PS:
Lukas's performance sickened me.
I love that song. It's one of my favorites.
He, In my opinion, butchered it. I'm not a fan of his voice when you can barely hear the words over his slurring.
I know I'm the only person who thinks that, but I really didn't like his rendition at all.
Ferrel 08-10-2006, 01:55 PM I'm voting for Z and Dilana.
And no I will not stop.
Ah, so it's all your fault.
Petragrrl 08-10-2006, 02:31 PM This is a cool thread! I'm really looking forward to reading what people in here have to say before and/or after each episode... :)
As for Zayra
Maybe people think it's funny to vote for Z... if not just to see what she's going to do next. Or there's some sort of "Zayra - Vote for the Worst" going on... similar to the website dedicated to American Idol's worst?
In any case, I'm giving this whole Z thing another week or two... then the fun and novelty part will have worn off, and fans of previously booted contestants will turn against her to keep their second-favorite contestant in the race...
kayid23 08-10-2006, 02:55 PM honestly i'm not voting for her for 'fun'.
i think she has potetnial.
she is different- she reminds me of Cher (yeah kinda band analogy but i don't care.)
and yes it is my fault. I think she's actually kind of good, better than some others on that show, her voice is unique and a bit strange but cool.
Petragrrl 08-10-2006, 08:17 PM I'd be one of those "looking to see what she does next" myself, because (as you said, and I'm agreeing here) she IS different and unique...
... but she is SO not the right person to front this band! Not a good fit at all! Like Gilby said, she should go all by herself and she'd be FABULOUS!
gusthepolarbear 08-10-2006, 09:07 PM kayid i agree with you that lucas' creep was not up to tom yorkes standards
October 08-11-2006, 12:32 AM If Zarah has potential, then shouldn't she be showing it by now? :eek2: It's been a few weeks, they should be pretty comfortable by now and showing that they deserve and are good enough to front that band...I haven't felt that from Zarah yet.
gusthepolarbear 08-11-2006, 10:26 PM shes certainly improved in my mind not a lot but still improvement
kayid23 08-12-2006, 08:19 PM I'd be one of those "looking to see what she does next" myself, because (as you said, and I'm agreeing here) she IS different and unique...
... but she is SO not the right person to front this band! Not a good fit at all! Like Gilby said, she should go all by herself and she'd be FABULOUS!
I agree with you there, she is not anywhere near right for Supernova- But I like her. I'd like to see her stick around instead of Lukas who you can't even understand a word he sings usually. It's kind of annoying hearing him slur like he's going to spit all over the place when he singing but people still keep him around... why i have no clue... everyone has their own opinion.
October 08-13-2006, 03:19 PM I'd rather Lucas stick around. I don't care for his type of music, but at least he can sing pretty well. Every now and then Zarah sings a song half-way in tune, but, imo, that's not good enough for a show like this. But as for his version of "Creep", personally, I prefer Marty's version from last year over his:wub:

Yes I prefer his too...
I love the songs Lukas does.
I just hate his voice.
October 08-13-2006, 04:30 PM Imo, she hasn't improved much at all. Personality-wise, I like her(though I don't care for some of her outfits), but she does sing off-key *a lot*.
Ferrel 08-14-2006, 01:05 PM Here it is. The song list for week 7
This is a stripped down episode of RS:SN. All acoustic
Zayra Lluvia De Mar (original song)
Magni Starman (David Bowie)
Patrice Message in a Bottle (The Police)
Lukas Hero (Chad Kroeger)
Storm I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)
Toby Salisbury Hill (Peter Gabriel) with Gilby on acoustic guitar
Ryan In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins)
Dilana Cats in the Cradle (Harry Chapin)
kayid23 08-14-2006, 05:50 PM Is it just me or do some of the songs in this setlist seem a bit... non-rockish? (well... Phil Collins... I don't consider rock, not even that song.)
gusthepolarbear 08-14-2006, 06:00 PM it seems like a acoustic week in something the only thing that really annoys me on this show is the limited song choices its always the same few artists and i'd like to hear something new
for example i would do the cake version of i will survive, very good song
kayid23 08-14-2006, 07:33 PM it seems like a acoustic week in something the only thing that really annoys me on this show is the limited song choices its always the same few artists and i'd like to hear something new

I agree with you there...
For acoustic I'd love to see Wish You Were Here or some other song choices but you know it's true it seems the same every single week.
I like cake too btw...
fourthpoliceman 08-15-2006, 10:07 PM How can Dilana not win after nailing it everysingle week. And after tonght's cover of Cat Stevens.... but, I still have this feeling Ryan will take it, if for nothing else that Dilana isn't better than him, because he's a guy.
That said, anyone else somewhat surprised at Zayra's performance.... not too shabby. Not right for a 'rock-band', but not too bad either.
gusthepolarbear 08-15-2006, 10:10 PM as they've been saying all series, zayra should be doing her own thing,
bottom three = patrice zayra and storm
encore = ryan
lostgurl 08-15-2006, 11:10 PM I really really like Ryan. I think Dilana was very good also. Actually, I didn't like any of the others tonight... at all.
I have a feeling Patrice is gone.
waltisfuture 08-15-2006, 11:57 PM Seriously weird night!!
I read some of the posts on the official site, and it sounds like the producers either didn't know who the band would be till the last minute .... OR ... the songs cost too much ($50,000) ... OR .... some other lame excuse.
The song selection is getting worse instead of better.
I have really grown to like Magni the past few weeks, but still love Dilana and Lukas (sorry Kayid23) I was saying to my daughter today, that It's the first time I've noticed that we're not on the same page.
Toby saved some face tonight by running naked to play with Gilby, but Lukas has to dig himself out of the face down drunken hole he's put himself in.
wanders01 08-16-2006, 07:25 AM Pleeeezzze get rid of Patrice. She is soooooooooo mediocre that I want to put my fingers in my ears while she's singing. At least Zayda is entertaining as in what will she do next. Storm should consider exotic dancing.she has the name and the tats for it. Lukas needs to sing out with his voice. Toby has a good look but needs to get a bit more showmanship in his act on stage. Dilana's only problem being born female..like many others, I don't think they are ready for a female lead.
Ferrel 08-16-2006, 11:00 AM Another week down, one to go home tonight. My bottom 3? Patrice, Toby, and Storm. Step right up and sing us a little song. And the loser is... Patrice. Definately my pick as the worst performance of the night.
My top 3 were Ryan, Lukas, Dilana. In that order. Ryan for the encore.
Magni was OK but I thought it was a bit too Vegas.
And for the first time, Z actually impressed me. Singing in her native tongue suits her and sounds amazing. As Navarro says, she needs to be a solo artist on a latin label. Very pretty song.
Lastly... Lukas RAWKS. He's just sooooo wicked, awesome it's sick. ;)
gusthepolarbear 08-16-2006, 08:32 PM woot shout out to cake, i got the encore right anyway, dilana looked good with supernova, MAGNI?!?!?!? zayras finally gone actually now i kinda miss her
Petragrrl 08-16-2006, 09:09 PM Just as I'm warming up to Z... that Blue October song she did was weird but intense.
I really think she'll do well with her music in Spanish... let's keep looking out for her!
My girl is Dilana...
... and I think it's time for a "Who do you think will be eliminated next?" type poll for this thread!!
gusthepolarbear 08-16-2006, 09:14 PM patrice, no question
kayid23 08-16-2006, 09:19 PM You know that Zayra's done work with Blue October? She is good friends with them, and has pretty close ties with them too...
Well...
once again
the judges don't cease to amaze me. They keep patrice who has not a one single talented bone in her body over Zayra? Are they hearing something other than I am? Did they realize she messed up the lyrics in that song?
Why do they have a reason to keep her over Zayra?
Well, Zayra has out solo CD's on her own. She's an excelent musician. I did some research on her about two weeks ago... Her original song was beautiful...
I want Pike G-O-N-E. No offense if anyone likes her but she SUCKS.
if you want to check out some more of Zayra's stuff just go to www.myspace.com/zayra
And I hope Dilana wins.
gusthepolarbear 08-16-2006, 10:05 PM i actually really like her solo stuff
fourthpoliceman 08-17-2006, 12:00 AM I doubt this is new to any of you either, but Dilana has had a previous label and album, even a music video! She's changed considerable, an evolution for the better IMO.
wanders01 08-17-2006, 07:11 AM Well. we all knew it was coming...just not when! I still would have preferred Patrice to leave but she did do Celeb Skin rather well even though it's not one of my favorites.
What's with Magni being in the bottom? Storm and Toby must have a larger following than I realized. Even Dave and Super Nova seemed surprised!
Petragrrl 08-17-2006, 09:05 AM Actually, I didn't know about Dilana's album and stuff, but I'm not surprised.
I'm going to have to check out Z's stuff now... thanks for the link, kayid!
QueenElessar 08-17-2006, 10:11 AM I'm not surprised...
I don't HATE Zayara or anything, but I really didn't think she fit with the band at all..and ultimately that's all they're concerning themselves with. Plus, in my own opinion, she didn't have the greatest voice. I felt like it was weaker than pretty much everyone elses.
Patrice IS talented...she's just boring. But the girl can sing...she's got a great voice...she just doesn't have enough personality in it. She's a powerhouse but that won't be enough to save her. I can totally see why Supernova would keep her around over Zayara though.
I think the whole 'bottom 3' process is getting incredibly interesting because as we get down to smaller numbers, it's starting to become obvious who has more fans. At first it was all about who sucked that week, but it's a different thing now. Look at Magni...he was GREAT the first night and he ROCKED it last night, but he ended up in the bottom three because he doesn't have the voting support. Storm had a bad night and ended up safe. Lucas had a craptastic week two weeks ago, but was nowhere near the bottom three that week.
I think that Dilana, Lucas, Storm and Toby have the most fans. Toby has been in the bottom five, but never quite in the bottom three. He IS good...but he's not THAT good...and he often starts off in the bottom three...but his fans see that and keep voting to save him. Dilana and Lucas have never been in the bottom 5. With Dilana, it's because she's never made a mis-step...but with Lucas there have been times when he's made mistakes or when he was good, but was he BETTER than everyone else? And we saw with Storm last night that even when she has a bad night, her fans want her to stay.
I think Supernova are really going to have to take this popularity thing into account. Because the fans are going to be the ones who buy this record so they better pick someone that everyone loves. Anytime Magni ends up in the bottom three he'll probably always sing his way out of it because he ROCKS...but should Supernova pick him in the end if his fans keep voting him there? I think they'd be smarter to pick Dilana, Lucas or Storm because people clearly want to see them!
Serously though...Dilana is the best! She deserves to go all the way!
Ferrel 08-17-2006, 10:54 AM Z's gone. See ya. Very graceful farewell. I'm still thinking Patrice should have gone, based on performance night. Z's original was so much better than Patrice's Message In A Bottle.
Y'all know I'm a Lukas fan, but who thinks Magni did a better Creep? (raises hand) I'm really liking the Iceman.
Ryan. Two weeks ago he got the encore. Last week he's bottom 3. This week gets a 2nd encore. Wierd.
Now to the SN track. What was going on there? It was shot differently than the rest of the show. Was that really a live performance? It was like it was shot at a different time with different lighting. Something fishy was going on. Anybody else notice that? The tune was alright. It didn't grab me and smack me on the head. Sometimes I have to listen to a song a number of times before it grows on me.
Later. I'm camping with the rednecks (I mean that in a good way) this weekend at MIS (Michigan International Speedway). Not too much of a NASCAR fan, but the party is a blast.
lostgurl 08-17-2006, 10:58 AM I did not love the band performance with Dilana last night. She's a great singer, but it just wasn't that good.
QueenElessar 08-17-2006, 11:16 AM I did not love the band performance with Dilana last night. She's a great singer, but it just wasn't that good
Well I thought Dilana had a great performance, but I'm just not really a fan of the song :undecide:
Y'all know I'm a Lukas fan, but who thinks Magni did a better Creep? (raises hand) I'm really liking the Iceman.
I loved both versions...which is cool because they were such widely different renditions. Magni and Lucas are worlds apart in terms of vibes and styles ;)
October 08-17-2006, 05:57 PM I thought Patrice was going to go as well, but out of the three, Zarah, I guess, deserved the boot. Magni...wow, I was so surprise! I expect him up in the top three along with Dilana and Lucas. I have to admit though, I liked Zarah's original song...she could probably do really well in that kind of foriegn music.
kayid23 08-17-2006, 10:22 PM I doubt this is new to any of you either, but Dilana has had a previous label and album, even a music video! She's changed considerable, an evolution for the better IMO.
Yes I've been checking out her personal stuff too...
She's great. Very creative, very different...
She deserves to go all the way I think...

Have you been to that Zarah myspace site? She's got four songs to listen to, and in all honesty, not to bad at all. Now that she's got some exposure, I think she'll do alright.
gusthepolarbear 08-18-2006, 11:54 AM i think toby can start out in the bottom three but his voting picks up when it airs in australia;)

I posted that site.
She actually has a lot of popularity... Her CD Ruleta is out and I'm buying it... sounds beautiful.
100%
i think toby can start out in the bottom three but his voting picks up when it airs in australia;)
By the way, does anyone remember Wil from last year?
Toby seems like the Wil of this year that just lasted longer and had some better songs...
gusthepolarbear 08-21-2006, 09:43 PM curse you vanished, stealing away the webisode time slot, anyways looks like another good week, cheers to toby for playing dilana, and hopefully patrices last week, ferrel should be arriving soon with the full song list complete with two originals
lostgurl 08-21-2006, 09:55 PM I just watched the webisode for this week.. omg, Dilana practicing her song is hilarious.
Ferrel 08-22-2006, 09:31 AM A little late, but here it is. Week 8 song list
Patrice - Beautiful Thing - Original song
Magni - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Ryan - Back of your Car - Original song
Storm - Cryin' - Aerosmith
Dilana - Every Breath You Take - The Police
Toby - Layla - Eric Clapton
Lukas - All These Things That I've Done - The Killers
QueenElessar 08-22-2006, 09:51 AM A little late, but here it is. Week 8 song list
Patrice - Beautiful Thing - Original song
Magni - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Ryan - Back of your Car - Original song
Storm - Cryin' - Aerosmith
Dilana - Every Breath You Take - The Police
Toby - Layla - Eric Clapton
Lukas - All These Things That I've Done - The Killers
NICE! I'm really excited!
Lucas is going to KILL the Killers song (no pun intended...lol). But seriously he struts around the stage like he's in one of those over dramatic bands anyway. The only thing more perfect than that would be if they let him sing that hit Hives song from a couple of years ago "Hate to say I told you so"
Danni 08-22-2006, 10:10 AM thanks Ferrel
it will be really interesting to see how Toby does his song
really hope that Patrice goes home this week and then it will be down to the real contenders, imo, making the elimination shows more exciting than ever this season - we need a little bit of suspense here in that area
October 08-22-2006, 04:33 PM *crosses fingers* I'm determined to be surprised with the songs...but I do hope there's something good in there. I've actually been thinking about it, and there are a couple Sarah McLachlan songs that could pass for the show(considering what's been done this year:rolleyes:) that would be *really* good to do, especially for Dilana. I was thinking "Elsewhere" and "Hold On"
gusthepolarbear 08-22-2006, 10:58 PM surprisingly enough i liked toby tonight, he kinda looked like charlie in the hoodie. Ryans original was goodand his performance was great, patrices had a nice melody but it really was too happy. I'm kinda dissapointed that lucas didnt sing with a fake british accent. magni was just ok. storm would fit in with supernovas dancer's shes so damn sexual. no comment on dilana. uuhhh i dont like request shows
fourthpoliceman 08-23-2006, 12:59 AM surprisingly enough i liked toby tonight, he kinda looked like charlie in the hoodie. polarbear man, it's getting tough isn't it. They're all beginning to sound good if not great if they hadn't thus far. And they all bring something different to the table too.
so who's next? I think it's Patrice's time to go, though her original wasn't all too bad. I do like her presence when she sings and looks all coy and cute, no? lol
oh.. one last thing. anyone else find it hilariously pathetic how after Dave talked about breaking something, Ryan does it, and doesn't really break it, but just kind of tossed it almost as if he was aiming for a bed of imaginary kittens or something! lol.
wanders01 08-23-2006, 07:19 AM Well, tonight , will it be bye-bye Patrice finally? I won't miss her. While she is a capable artist she does not belong with TL etal. Lukas was a little to same old same old and I was glad Gilby asked about his stage habit....I wondered the same thing. I think it's just a bad habit rather than his way of "honoring" the band though. But that's an opinion and we all know opinions are like...............we all have one.
lostgurl 08-23-2006, 09:13 AM I liked Magni and Ryan this week. The rest were just ok, IMO. Patrice will be going home tonight for the same reason that Z did, she just doesnt fit with their style. The decision is going to get tough after this week because I think the rest of the singers are all very good.
Danni 08-23-2006, 09:22 AM I really liked Toby last night, and thought Lukas was same old same old.
I'm glad they liked Dilana because I like her, but I thought last night was not anything special for her. First time she didn't give me chills or make me smile big.
I think Ryan really made big points with his original song.
Storm is just darned entertaining - even to watch her groove to the other songs when the camera catches her while the other guys are doing their thing.
Magni did well.
Bye Patrice.
Ferrel 08-23-2006, 10:05 AM Great show last night. Getting hard to pick top 3, bottom 3. So because I can't, Patrice and Toby were my personal bottom 2, with Ryan and Magni my top 2. Patrice for elimination. I'd have picked Ryan for the encore, if he hadn't got it last week. So being as Magni was also in my top 2 I'll pick him for the encore. Who will do the Supernova song? I have no idea.
Petragrrl 08-23-2006, 02:25 PM My guess is Ryan will get the Supernova song... just a hunch, based on how well he did with his original song.
Again - I think we should have a poll a the beginning of the thread, like, who's going to be eliminated next? I think it's Patrice, too... then Toby, then Storm, then Lukas (I don't really like that guy).
Ryan, Magni and Dilana are my top three... Who will walk away with the top prize? I'm giving all three equal chances... but who knows?
Ferrel 08-23-2006, 03:58 PM Again - I think we should have a poll a the beginning of the thread, like, who's going to be eliminated next?
As the originator of the thread, do I have to do that? If so, how?
Danni 08-23-2006, 04:07 PM I'm not sure but I think a mod has to set up a poll
you could pm BD or Superman Mod of Steel
or I could report your post - that would get somebody's attention quick enough :lol2: but it might be abusing the system
Petragrrl 08-23-2006, 09:19 PM Sorry, Ferrel... I thought it'd be an easy thing to set up a poll...
I'd probably PM a mod, too... like Danni said *waves*
Uhmmmmm... how about Dilana making the biggest mistake EVAH by tattling to the press? I saw that unfolding on the 'webisode' but didn't think they'd actually show it on TV... wow. The next 'webisode' should be interesting...
lostgurl 08-23-2006, 09:24 PM Dilana sure didn't look too nice tonight. She really screwed up, more than once. I'm glad Toby got the band song tonight. I think Storm should have been in the bottom instead of Magni.
gusthepolarbear 08-23-2006, 09:44 PM now that patrice is gone i cant decide between any of the rest of the rockers. they're too strong. no encore? i dont see why storm hasnt landed in the bottom three
October 08-23-2006, 10:28 PM I though Storm should've sang, she was pretty good last night. As for Dilana, you can't blame her for being angry with Ryan getting all that hype about that average performance, though I do agree that there's a certain amount of respect you should have for those below you when you're on the top. Lukas kinda reminded me of Sawyer, turning away Dilana's offer of care. I guess when you become so dependent on yourself, it's hard to accept the help of someone else. You can't really blame her...it's just basically Dilana waiting for the finally to come around now. I just hope she doesn't let that idea get into her head too much though...
Speaking of which, didn't care much for her hairdo tonight, though I liked the straight cut last night of hers:)
I actually would've rather Toby gone...he's never really appealed to me...
fourthpoliceman 08-24-2006, 03:27 AM After hearing more of Ryan Star's original music like, "We might fall", "Losing your memory". and even his original version of "Back of your car"... I've got to say he SHOULD LEAVE rockstar: supernova and continue his solo career. His music is just amazing and a different direction than what Supernova's going to be. Anyone agree?
Also, anyone somewhat disappointed by the two original Supernova songs thus far? "Leave the lights on" felt like a substandard "Pour some sugar on me", no? I've actually been quite impressed by the contestant originals more. Anyone disagree?
wanders01 08-24-2006, 08:20 AM Well, no surprise last night on the Patrice front but I was quite surprised Magni ended up in the bottom three. While I've never considered him the front runner I felt he did a better job than Storm. The Toby situation also surprised me. I have to assume (always a bad idea) that Dave's comments along with SN are taken to heart too much.
More fans need to vote their feelings on the singers not the opinions of the hosts.

I didnt care for either of the songs so far. If they were on the radio I would not be tempted to buy that cd.
Danni 08-24-2006, 09:46 AM :shesaid:band songs -- not impressed
Hendrix --- woooot
Dilana -- she was really uncomfortable and understandably so, she really screwed up but at least had the guts to man up about it
Ryan solo -- yep that would be good for him -- his original was awesome
for some reason, October, I really like Toby now, more than before, not sure why and it's not the shirtless thing, he can keep his shirt on for all I care and just sing
and Ferrel re the poll - it would have to be a new poll each week or we need the ability to vote more than once since each week we'd be picking a new loser
chellly 08-24-2006, 11:19 AM I was glad that Patrice finally was sent home. I just couldn't get in to her singing at all. I am for Dilana to take it. I can't decide whether or not I like Toby or Ryan.
Ferrel 08-24-2006, 11:27 AM Bye, bye Miss American Pi(ke). Ok, that's was really bad. Did not like her version of my favorite Pretenders song. Magni and Toby were very good.
I'm surprised Magni and Toby were in the bottom 3. The only thing I can think of, is Iceland and Australia don't have the population to support their countrymen. Oz is about 20 million, and Iceland is just under 300 thousand. Canada is 35 million and RS:SN is very popular here. So Lukas never winds up in the bottom 3. Anyway, best theory I can come up with.
The press clinic certainly put Dilana in a new light. Don't do that again. Honesty is not the best policy in this case. SN might be worried about what she might let slip about them. Not good. Lukas certainly handled himself much better. Loved Navarro's comment about needing a thick skin in respect to being slammed in the press for being the winner of a reality TV show. Just ask JD Fortune. Dave has no allusions about what is going on.
As to the 2 SN originals we have heard... the 2nd was better than the 1st, but I didn't like the "Hey, hey, hey, ho, ho, ho" part.
Hard to spot the trend here yet, but is singing an original song the kiss of death. Not in Ryan's case but... I'm just asking.
Later.
Danni 08-24-2006, 11:33 AM Lukas is looking a little robotic to me now. I sorta liked him at first, he's polished and has the moves and the look but there's nothing new, fresh, surprising from him. And I think he's a little peeved that he has not yet been invited to sing with the group on one of their new songs.
fourthpoliceman 08-24-2006, 04:16 PM I didnt care for either of the songs so far. If they were on the radio I would not be tempted to buy that cd.
Exactly... even Nickelback's singles are more catchy and arguably just as hard as Supernova's going to get.
Still enjoying the show
October 08-24-2006, 06:14 PM Ugh, I couldn't stand Ryan's original...:scared: I actually liked Zarah's better:eek2: And as for Supernova's songs, I actually liked the first one, but didn't care for the second.
gusthepolarbear 08-24-2006, 09:27 PM i didnt like either of supernovas originals
most canadians hate nickelback. why is chad kroeger always so angry sounding?
fourthpoliceman 08-24-2006, 10:14 PM most canadians hate nickelback. why is chad kroeger always so angry sounding?
Why is Jack Bauer always whispering?
gusthepolarbear 08-24-2006, 10:25 PM cause he doesnt have time to talk?
cause keefer is canadian?
you'd get more answers to a johnny bauer question
Danni 08-25-2006, 09:57 AM I guess I'm in the minority cause I kinda like Nickelback
Jack Bauer, well, he can do anything he wants, and if he wants to whisper, that's okay
Ferrel 08-25-2006, 10:33 AM I guess I'm in the minority cause I kinda like Nickelback
Me too. Have all their CDs, however I don't like any of their singles. How You Remind Me, Feeling Way Too Damn Good, and Photograph all bug me. :ohwell: The Nickels are a pretty heavy band once you get by those.
fourthpoliceman 08-28-2006, 03:50 AM Has anyone heard the performances at CityWalk? I'm asking opinions about Dilana's cover of Zombie again... if you haven't check this out. I'm confused about her voice... is what we hear on Rockstar her natural voice or is she trying to make it hard, low, and raspy. Though I've got no complaints, in this second cover... she sounds eerily similar to Dolores O'Riordan in an amazing way. I acually think 'this' voice' is better in every way.
Check it out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE_GSVTT2pA
Ferrel 08-28-2006, 09:24 AM Week 9 is Viewer's Choice. Here's what viewers picked for the rockers.
Lukas - Lithium - Nirvana
Magni - I, Alone - Live
Ryan - Clocks - Coldplay
Storm - Bring Me Back to Life - Evanescance
Toby - Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
Dilana - Mother Mother - Tracy Bonham
Danni 08-28-2006, 09:24 AM That's amazing fourth, it does really sound like they were channeling the Cranberrries. I love it, but also the low raspy sound too. Maybe she's just a bit more versatile that some others (Lukas) that sound and look the same each week.
I was almost dreading the telecast tonight thinking it's going to be uncomfortable watching Dilana after that stuff she said last week. But curiosity is now at an all time high (for this season so far) with respect to repercussions and elimination.
They do have us hooked, don't they.
100%
thanks Ferrel - you're the best
gusthepolarbear 08-28-2006, 09:32 AM the original cranberries song is sung so well
fourthpoliceman 08-29-2006, 01:30 AM I was almost dreading the telecast tonight thinking it's going to be uncomfortable watching Dilana after that stuff she said last week. But curiosity is now at an all time high (for this season so far) with respect to repercussions and elimination.
Yeah, Dilana definately didn't handle it very well. Blowing up at the camera, smashing the glass, and cutting Magni was very uncalled for. Is she 'self-destructing' at the top?
Danni 08-29-2006, 09:28 AM Magni is so lucky that shard of glass didn't hit him in the eye. But he didn't even have a scratch on him during the photo shoot so it must have been a very small cut even though it bled really good. Whatever was there was covered up with make up so it wasn't too bad. So lucky.
Where will Dilana go from here, will she redeem herself? She is human, but I didn't like to hear Lukas trying to capitalize on her little meltdown, but I suppose if tables were turned...
Funny how last night when she was talking I could sorta hear a bit of an Irish lilt in her voice (after hearing that Citywalk performance).
<--- too easily influenced by the power of suggestion, obviously.
gusthepolarbear 08-29-2006, 10:22 AM wow i must have gapped during that part
how dare lucas insult nirvana
i think i realize now that right now i think ryan dark horse star is my favourite
i mean star ... supernova its meant to be
lostgurl 08-29-2006, 01:04 PM When/where did Dilana smash a glass?
waltisfuture 08-29-2006, 01:39 PM When/where did Dilana smash a glass?
When they got back to the mansion Lukas was consoling Dilana at the poolside, when Magni came to join them. She looked at the camera, yelled something, stood up and smashed her wine glass on the cement, which caused a shard of glass to fly up and cut Magni.
Danni 08-29-2006, 02:10 PM I think the camera man was coming in closer or he zoomed in, she realized she was on camera and that's when she got upset. I got the distinct impression she was just really super annoyed at everything being on camera and her not having any privacy. I actually felt really sorry for her later when she was crying and Storm was holding her, she was sobbing. Not something we really need to see, and I can understand her frustration.
But she is on a reality show.
But she is still a human being.
I hope she has a happy week, she needs it.
waltisfuture 08-29-2006, 02:12 PM She seems to have pulled herself together. I like when she said it was the best thing that could have happened to her.
She sounded excellent practicing Mother Mother.
Danni 08-29-2006, 02:13 PM fingers crossed - I hope so walt
wanders01 08-29-2006, 02:21 PM fingers crossed - I hope so walt
:shesaid: I hope so too Danni..................Love Darren:biggrin:
Danni 08-29-2006, 02:44 PM thanks wanders -- he is a beauty
I was thinking about the sobbing part and I guess they did need to show us that, to garner sympathy for her, and to show us she's not a horrible person. It all balances out. Now the people who booed her last week will feel sorry for her and forgive her.
(they are such big fat manipulators :lol2:)

Yep. That's why it's a "Reality" show:biggrin:

Do you think she is genuinely sorry for talking sh*t about everyone? Or sorry that she got caught saying it? I really have to wonder. Not that I don't like her, I actually hope she or Luckas wins and Ryan persue his solo carreer.
gusthepolarbear 08-29-2006, 09:07 PM fourth thats how i felt last season about marty
curse you lucas for not liking nirvana but still doing a good job
magni was awesome
ryan go solo for me, please
easy toby, easy
hmm im starting to find dilana a little cheesy for some reason and thats a really good fit for this band
fourthpoliceman 08-29-2006, 10:08 PM Interesting to see the two front runners performing the same song now... Lithium. Lukas more than showed that he can do what Dilana can do, without repeating her performance. Ryan is beginning to remind me of how Chris Martin and Coldplay performs... not a bad thing, but should be doing his own thing.
Bottom three anyone? Storm, Magni, and Tobey?
lostgurl 08-29-2006, 10:11 PM I thought Storm was horrible. Wasn't too impressed with Dilana although everyone else seemed to love her. Loved Toby's performance also.
I just love Ryan so much, but Fourth may be right.. he may be better on his own. I'm not too excited over any of the Supernova songs so far.
fourthpoliceman 08-29-2006, 10:13 PM I just love Ryan so much, but Fourth may be right.. he may be better on his own. I'm not too excited over any of the Supernova songs so far.
Have you had a chance to hear the three or four original songs he's done that's on youtube? I actually like it alot.

I have and they're great. I'm ordering his cd on friday!
Also, I've been trying to vote for him online for 10 minutes now and there's an error when I try to submit it.. grr
fourthpoliceman 08-29-2006, 10:28 PM Also, I've been trying to vote for him online for 10 minutes now and there's an error when I try to submit it.. grr
so, just a question. If you want him to pursue a solo career, then do you want him to win and join Supernova?
gusthepolarbear 08-29-2006, 10:30 PM curse you and your "logic" fourth
wanders01 08-30-2006, 07:37 AM Wow it was a shocker to see the bottom three right after voting started! My problem............I'm not sure that I disagree. While Lukas is a rocker to me he's always seemed one dimensional. I think Magni would be great as a front man if they can keep him "loosened" up. I hate to admit that Toby has the look that would make the groupies drool. Poor Storm has been destined to leave for some time. Ryan seems to be more one-man-show to me and Dilana...well a melt down in this time frame was either a great marketing ploy or begs the question "How will she manage a long on the road tour?"I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Danni 08-30-2006, 09:18 AM question 1: is anyone else a little bit annoyed that we're hearing a song for the 3rd time?
question 2: what was with Jason when the upper deck booed his comments? did something else happen that was edited out? (I suppose this question might be aimed at Ferrel who seems to have all the inside scoop). his reaction seemed a little extreme, simply because the fans didn't agree with him?
gusthepolarbear 08-30-2006, 09:21 AM i hate hearing songs again its bad enough we had to hear them last season
i guess it must be a money issue
QueenElessar 08-30-2006, 09:24 AM I think the bottom three for last night SHOULD be Storm, Toby and Ryan..
I love Storm...but I really didn't like that version of the song...(although I felt bad for her because she really didn't want to have to sing it...and she didn't pick it). Plus I feel like she makes the weirdest facial expressions on stage some time. I think she should stick around for another couple of weeks...but ultimately I don't think she should win.
Toby because I just think the guy is such a giant HIMBO!...lol. I mean he seems nice and he has a good voice, but I just feel like I'm watching a cheesy play everytime he performs. I can actually understand why Dilana called him a fake. He just bugs me...rocker pretty boy or whatever..
Ryan because I think him and Magni have similar flavours, but Ryan's tone impresses me less...AND Ryan looks more akward on stage than Magni does. Out of the people that are left I think Ryan looks the least natural in terms of his body movements and the way he commands the stage. And that's a big thing. No one but Lucas could get away with moving the way he does...but he KILLS it. And Dilana has always looked completely at home (except when she half sat on the guy's shoulder last night...don't know what that was). And Magni has this nice natural flow...not as wild as Lucas, but still really natural.
I still think Dilana should win...even after the escapades of last week. I think that was given so much attention becasue the producers wanted to craft some obstacles for her becuase she's really had it easy so far. And if it's not Dilana I still want Lucas...there's just something about his personna and watching him perform that captivates me.
chellly 08-30-2006, 09:34 AM I think the bottom three for last night SHOULD be Storm, Toby and Ryan..
I agree. As soon as I saw what Storm's song was going to be I knew it probably wouldn't turn out well. I did think, though, that Toby did a good job. I am not fond of Ryan or Lukas at all.
Petragrrl 08-30-2006, 09:50 AM I hope Magni is NOT in the bottom three this week... because, if he IS and Storm (who, in my opinion had the weakest performance yesterday) ISN'T, he's could be a goner having been in the bottom three, like what? Three times before that?
Ferrel 08-30-2006, 11:23 AM Awesome show last night. Getting tired of hearing the same songs though.
I liked Lukas's Lithium better than Dilana's. Not that Dilana's was bad, but Lukas gets a extra couple of points for risking an arrangement like that. Lukas's performance very good. He gave the audience his full attention. Lesson learned from last week.
I'm afraid for Magni. He just does not have Lukatics or Dilanites to cast votes his way, and he is, by far, better than both of them vocally. He's lacking in the stage presence department (relatively speaking) but last night he really improved this aspect of his game. I wouldn't mind at all if he wins, I just don't think that's going to happen.
Ryan. As said in previous posts, needs a solo career. I've grown to respect him alot, as I didn't care too much for him at the beginning. Nice timing in the whole "slide back across the piano to play the 2nd solo" thing. Tres cool. Bottom 3 for me though.
Storm was awful. Well, maybe awful is too strong. She did BMTL better than Z but not as good as Jill. Granted Storm knew just how difficult this song is and that her voice is quite a bit different than Amy Lee's. Kudos for effort, but this lands her in the bottom 3.
Toby, was just all over the place. Started too low and bottomed out, switched to a higer register and went all pitchy. What to do to save the performance? Dancing hotties. Yeah, that's what we need. Last week, Chippindales. This week it's a frat party. We know your sexy Toby, but after that you can't hold a candle to the rest of the rawkers. Bottom 3. For me anyways.
Mother, Mother what performance. Dilana is just so good. It's too bad I don't really like her. I don't think she has thick enough skin for the job and it remains to be seen if she's learned to hold her tongue.
Danni. I didn't hear anything about Jason's glare at the bleacher creatures. I too though we had missed something. But apparently the audience wasn't throwing any love his way; getting booed very loudly for comments to both Ryan and Storm. Maybe a heckler shouted one thing too many?
Only 3 more weeks left, if I did the math right (this was week 9, and I think there are 12 episodes). My personal final 3 at this point would be Magni, Lukas, and Dilana.
Later
QueenElessar 08-30-2006, 12:09 PM I thought that Jason staring them down like that was HILARIOUS! I think he was kind of kidding anyway. He tried to give Ryan a comment about how he kind of lost the plot when he came out from the piano and didn't have as much strength as a front-man...and the upper balcony people booed. So he looked right up and them and kind of started them down, then he did a cockly half smile and looked down and they all started cheering again.
fourthpoliceman 08-30-2006, 08:57 PM Also, I've been trying to vote for him online for 10 minutes now and there's an error when I try to submit it.. grr
Sooo, did you get a chance to vote for him? You do know if you didn't vote, that could be the reason why he ended up in the bottom three and the boot right? lol .... ;)
Just kidding. No worries for Ryan, I think he'll do just fine continuing his solo career. Definately shocked Storm's still around though.
gusthepolarbear 08-30-2006, 09:05 PM yay!!! good for ryan
and he wont see them in the charts because he'll be there and supernova wont
good to know the whole blow up hurt dilana
lostgurl 08-30-2006, 09:06 PM Sooo, did you get a chance to vote for him? You do know if you didn't vote, that could be the reason why he ended up in the bottom three and the boot right? lol .... ;)
Just kidding. No worries for Ryan, I think he'll do just fine continuing his solo career. Definately shocked Storm's still around though.
I did get to vote after about an hour. I'm not surprised he went home... I knew they wouldnt get rid of Storm or Dilana because they're the only girls left.
Dilana sounded like crap tonight and I cant stand Storm. The Supernova song sucked once again, Lucas wasnt good. Ryan is better than those songs for sure. I will laugh if he puts out songs that rank higher in the charts than Supernova does.
By the way, I'm a little bitter right now.
fourthpoliceman 08-30-2006, 09:16 PM If we're going by Billboard charts.. Ryan and Supernova will hardly ever be in the same charts IMO, since Ryan's original music is more pop rock than rock/heavy metal, no?
Petragrrl 08-30-2006, 09:25 PM All the contestants left are so much more interesting than those three guys of Supernova (including their music...)
This show is definitely my 2006 summer guilty pleasure, because, will I ever buy a Supernova album / get tickets to one of their shows?
Nope. :)
Good TV, though... Glad to see Magni was not bottom-three... there's definitely a Dilana backlash happening. Looking forward to see how it all plays out...
Ferrel 08-30-2006, 10:10 PM Well, Ryan wasn't too pleased about that, was he? Basically, "Thanks Dave. Up yours SN." Go down swinging. Really, all 3 kinda sucked. Ryan was the worst though. He looked very clumsy on stage. Doesn't know how to swing a mike and catch it properly, and was a little ricketly getting up on those amps.
Dilana just got slapped by the viewers. Reality(tv) bites, huh? Out of everything I've seen Dilana do, this was my least favorite. She still frightens me when she does that monkey dance. :eek2:
I liked Storm's performance, but thought she was as lacking, vocally, as well as the rest. Is Storm next to go?
And speaking of 'to go', only 2 weeks left. Not 3, as I posted earlier.
Big shout out to Magni.   Whew!!
Toby gets encore. At least he sang it better tonight.
LUKAS!!! This brings up tonight's original song and why I still think Lukas gets the job, even though Magni is a better singer. Of all three orignals, this one I liked the best. Coz it sounded like a new, rock song. This is what I feel Lukas brings to the table. He's SN's best shot to reach the young "modern rock" crowd. Of course, I could be wrong. As I have proven many times, in my predictions, in this very thread.
Later.
gusthepolarbear 08-30-2006, 10:22 PM yeah ferrel you gotta stop jinxing stuff and stick to providing us with inside info lol
dilanas weird seizure type dance:105: :scared: :hide: :yikes:
Danni 08-31-2006, 10:13 AM So hilarious that Magni was the only one not in the bottom 3. After he pleaded to each country not to vote for their own --- I guess it worked.
Dilana and her headbanging performance :wallbash: was not my favourite, can't get into that type of music, but I thought she did it very well, if that was how it's supposed to be done.
Oh and I liked when she head-butted the mike (last night or the night before?) --- she had said earlier when she got the song to play with Gilbey that she might head butt him, but didn't. Now she got that out of her system. :lol2:
QueenElessar 08-31-2006, 10:24 AM I am a retard...and I compltely forgot to watch last night....LOL. I only tuned in to see them all standing there and watch Ryan go home. He really did not look pleased ;). And I can see why. He's been getting praise every week for great performance...whereas Storm has had some rough weeks lately...and yet when it comes down to it, he's the one to go. But I think it's because Supernova, while they like him, just don't see him as their front-man...and that's fair. What I like about this show is that the band has the final say. The audience can keep people safe, but only for so long. In the end the band won't end up with a lead singer who is popular, but not suited (like Toby for the love of GOD!).
I wish I'd seen Lucas sing with Supernova :frown: . Isn't he the only one to never be in the bottom three at this point? I can really see him winning the whole thing. Because not only does he seem to be really popular with the audience, but he also seems to have an interesting style that would suit Supernova and might even make them more releveant ;)
Poor Dilana...I'm still rooting for her. I know what it's like to be overly emotional...and have a bad temper. It would suck to have it happen on National TV. GO DILANA!
gusthepolarbear 08-31-2006, 10:51 AM go people from toronto winning two years in a row!!!!!
Danni 08-31-2006, 10:53 AM wouldn't that be an absolute hoot :24:
