So the DVD of Animaniacs just came out a little while ago, and I was wondering how many of you used to watch this show? I know it was my favorite show when I was growing up. How 'bout you?

I used to love this show. I think one of my favorite parts was the Wheel of Morality. :D

That cartoon was hilarious. It was silly and so out of control. They just don't make those kinds of cartoons anymore. It's sad really.

Agreed. It was a real throwback to the days of classic animation in the '30s and '40s, when 'toons were for grownups, not kids, and so they could get away with being really crazy. They didn't have to worry about messing up a bunch of little young minds.

I was surprised on how much they got away with on that show. Youtube had some clips showing of this show and in one of the songs Yakko was singing a song with back up singers (girls of course) and he said "Girls let me know if those costumes get heavy!"
They would never get away with that line now adays.

And those kinds of things really did go right over my head. I bet if I watched it now, I'd be like oooohhhh.

I recently saw some of a bugs bunny movie and was like, they let us watch that stuff? lol.

With animaniacs, it was weird cause when they made fun of celebrities, I didn't even know who half of them were. I really want to see this show again to see what else I could find.

I'm with you, Blue. Animaniacs was easily my favorite show when it was on. My friends and I would quote the show constantly at school. But so much of that show went over my young little head. It would be awesome to watch it again. Maybe I should think about getting that DVD. Although, Lost S2 is obviously my main priority. :3:

I loved this show when i was younger. Sometimes its on now and again. Loved the chicken that used to dress up and pretend to be human, and the child that used to go "Why.. ok i love you bye bye"

Oh, I forgot about that little girl. She was funny. I liked the whole "Good idea, bad idea" with that Skeleton guy.

My friend just brought those pidgeons to my attention. The wise guy pidgeons?

"How am I funny? Funny how? Do I amuse you? Do I make you laugh? Tell me how cause I'd like to know why you think I'm funny?"

LOL...I had no idea what movie they were copying until I saw Joe Pesci in Goodfellas...lol...

And they did that more than most people even knew. The Brain, for instance, was modeled after Orson Welles. And do you remember the old Warner Brothers cartoons that took place at big awards dinners where they would have all these movie stars milling about doing their schtick? And of course, "What's Up, Doc?" in which Elmer Fudd plays a bigtime theatrical agent who bypasses all sorts of big stars like Bing Crosby, Al Jolson, Jack Benny and Eddie Cantor on skidrow only to wax rhapsodic over finding Bugs Bunny.

It's a great example of what I meant when I suggested that Animaniacs was continuing in the great cartoon traditions. The best part is that it did it without copying the old cartoons. Too bad real creativity and subtlety like that doesn't seem to generate enough of an audience to keep up. I know, I know what you're thinking-- "Well what about LOST, then?" Notice that ABC has forsaken reruns of LOST in favor of the okay, but very formulaic sitcom, "George Lopez." QED.

LOL I loved that . My faves were Pinky and the Brain. I'd love to own this show on DVD as I can never seem to find it on TV anymore.

To actually think about it...Yakko Wakko and Dot were pretty insane. I mean, they were really really crazy! Sometimes I wanted them to be caught because they were just so out of control. I guess that's why I loved them so much.

I want to remember more about the show. Buttons and Mindy...the little dog who chased the girl...poor dog always got in trouble for what she did...

And what about the themesong? "We have pay-or-play contracts!" How inside does an inside joke get? That was the real difference between something like Animaniacs and crap like "Tiny Toon Adventures-- SUBTLETY!

"We're zany to the max, there's baloney in our slacks!"

That's interesting you mentioned that because if you look that show up on imdb and go to trivia...it explains all or most of the inside jokes and that pay or play contracts and baloney in our slacks were mentioned.

AND they also said that Animaniacs and Tiny Toons were interlocked somehow...interesting stuff...

I have got to get this dvd set. I couldn't get enough of this show when it was on. I still crack up when I think of Chicken Boo. I remember once in high school the two guys sitting behind me were quietly singing (and trying to harmonize) the Slappy the Squirrel theme song during science. I tried so hard not to laugh, but I'm pretty sure I failed.

Haha! Slappy the Squirrel. And what was her nephew's name? Remember that episode where she took him to see Bambi and he freaked out, so he she had to take him to see the actor? That was pretty funny.

Her nephew's name was Skippy. I don't remember the Bambi episode! Now I'm sad because it sounds funny...

omg, that was hilarious, I forgot all about that chicken. He actually creeped me out, lol. And I vaguely remember Slappy...what about that girl...Rita? She was always singing or something...funny stuff.
