Hi all!

If anyone here is a Firefly fan from the LA area, I have some interesting info, here is what I posted on my Firefly boards:

"I need to get 'yes we will be there input from folks' and how many tickets per post please. I am posting this on a few message boards, if you say yes on one message board, please do not reply on another so that I can keep track of numbers.

Here is the info:

"Hi Folks:

Thanks for offering to help get the word out on a possible Firefly reception
at Grand Slam for Nathan and Adam. In order to make this work we'd need to
get a guarantee of at least 50 people. The cost would be $65 per person and
it would be held at Delmonicos, the fantastic restaurant across the street
from the Pasadena Center. It would be a Happy Hour (probably 5-6 pm) on Saturday.
March 12 and the menu would feature:
- Stuffed Mushrooms
- Chicken Skewers
- Seafood Cakes
- Veggie Platters with Dips
As well as complimentary Well Cocktails, House Wine and Draft Beer.

If you can get us at least 50 people to guarantee they will buy tickets to
this function we'll make it happen. FYI the day is subject to change
depending on the Serenity shooting schedule."

Thank you for your replies! :)

Also I just checked and you don't have to attend Grand Slam to attend the reception."

Here is a link to information about Grand Slam, but if you don't want to attend Grand Slam you don't have to:

It would also be real cool if next year they can get guests from Lost and we can get a reception with them!!! :)

I will be seeing Dom next weekend at the LOTR con, yippee!!! :)

Okay, so this is for us fans of Firefly, who are also fans of Lost and thus don't want to go to a Firefly message board but would rather stay here. ;D

I would have to go with Mal. He's the sex, snarky, cute, good with a gun, and those eyes, and that walk. He also plays evil real good. Grrrrrrrr Argh.

Mal, he's just too cool.

2nd would be Jayne.

Okay, one of my all time favorites has to be in "Objects in Space", where there's the big struggle on deck with the bounty hunter, and there's a huge crash, and we cut to a shot of Jayne waking suddenly from the sound of the crash and tearing the sheet off his wall, revealing the cubby filled with at least twenty heavy artillery assault weapons, and the heroic music plays.... and he pulls the sheet over him and switches to his other side to sleep.

I laughed so hard I had to pause it for like ten minutes. lol

Why the heck was this show cancelled? I was never a fan of Joss Whelon's Buffy or Angel (Too Teeny-bop for my taste) but I've been pleasantly surprised with the episodes of Firefly I've seen so far (Waiting to see all the episodes before watching the Serenity movie) Not as good as Battlestar Galactica but definitely better that Babylon 5 or especially Stargate SG1. Love the whole Sci-Fi/Western motif. Good cast of actors, particularly Adam Baldwin (Will always remember him from Full Metal Jacket, "Animal Mother"). Too bad the Sci-Fi Channel didn't pounce on this after Fox cancelled it.

Love the show. It's the only way I can watch anything remotely western. I can't see why they cancelled it, much worse shows last much longer for no apparent reason. I guess the general public just never caught on to how great it is. On the plus side it means you only have one season to catch up on.

I like them all. Such a great cast of characters and actors/actresses. But, I think that Mal (Nathan Fillon) truly stands above the rest of the male cast.

As for the female side of the cast, I think all four of the ladies are talented and drop dead gorgeous. After watching this show and the movie, I developed a crush on Kaylee (Jewel Staite). She is so adorable and funny. My kind of woman!

It's because the people at Fox didn't bargain on a show like Firefly when they gave Joss a deal to make a show for the network. They pretty much tried to kill the show right from the beginning by making him write a new pilot episode "The Train Job" because they didn't think that "Serenity" was good enough. It didn't have enough action in it or some such nonsense. Also:
--Fox aired the episodes out of order and didn't air some eps so the series wouldn't have made much sense to anyone watching it
--They changed time slots for the show eventually moving it to Friday nights when lots of people would be out instead of at home watching TV
--And at the time that it was aired, they had, I believe, pre-empted the show to air baseball.

Fox made it just about impossible for the show to find and sustain an audience and possibly even make the audience grow bigger.
If you haven't already, read the book called Finding Serenity which is a collection of essays written about various aspects of the show covering what I've said in this post and more.

Finally watched all fourteen episodes, and am planning to see Serenity tomorrow night. AARGHH!! Why didn't the Sci-Fi channel pick this show up!!! The last episode, with the bounty hunter Jubar Early...excellent. The guy reminded me of a more verbose Boba Fett, and his ship even resembled Slave 1 (Fett's ship). Oh, fans of Gina Torres...you might wanna check out some older seasons of Alias...I believe she played Sydney Bristow's very dangerous competitor.

itsalways a tie between Mal and Jayne, but i voted for Jayne, aka Animal Mother:biggrin:

American networks are world class at killing shows, Fox in particular.

No kidding. Things weren't so bad until the whole "reality" show genre blew up back about 5 or 6 years ago. Since then, if you don't get huge ratings instantly, you're pretty much a goner on the big 4 networks. If Fox had given Firefly a proper chance to find and maintain a steady audience, the show would have been about to start its fifth season soon.

the part in the Family Guy episode where Peter lists all the shows Fox has killed over the years is pretty funny, quite a few of my favourites in there:rolleyes:

If you love Gina Torres though you gotta catch the new FOX show "Standoff" it's actually pretty good and Gina plays their boss.

Go Zoe! Hopefully this one will last longer than 11 episodes. ;)

I recently watched all the episodes, and I love this show. It's a shame that it got cut so quickly since it seems to have a huge following.
I haven't gotten to see the movie yet, but I'll be renting it for sure. Inara and Mal are my favorites.
