View Full Version : Sopranos Sixth Season -- Part Two
DharmaChick 11-29-2006, 02:26 PM Has anyone heard/read anything about when we get to see the rest of Season 6?
I thought that Part Two was supposed to be in January or something, but I haven't heard any updates about that.
I also heard rumor of a seventh season. Is there any truth to that?? I thought that Season 6 was the finale.
Dino 23F 01-31-2007, 10:38 PM season 6 starts back up in april. it'll be the last season. about 10 more episodes, and thats it. there is rumor of a movie or something though
johnnywishbone 02-01-2007, 12:41 PM as good as this show is, and i have enjoyed it verily,
i can honestly say that i've almost entirely lost interest in it.
these long - and completely unnecessary - breaks make it difficult for me to stay connected with the characters.
I can barely remember where they left off, who's still alive and what they're doing :34853_huh:
There was supposed to be 8 more epis
but they've added a 9th
Sunday, April 8 is the date
and they're replaying Season 6 now...just started last week i believe
fenwayfan 02-01-2007, 06:13 PM yea, i hate these long breaks too. but usually the show is so well made it's worth the wait.
you probably thought it was coming back in january, cuz a & e is running old episodes and they were promoting it a lot.
Dino 23F 02-18-2007, 04:29 PM i heard a rumor somebody dies in the first episode back
i cant wait till they start back up.
DharmaChick 02-20-2007, 11:46 AM i heard a rumor somebody dies in the first episode back
i cant wait till they start back up.
It wouldn't surprise me if they wanted tostart out with a bang. They did that in the first half of this season. I have a feeling that it will be someone on the NY side, though. Just a guess.
100%

you probably thought it was coming back in january, cuz a & e is running old episodes and they were promoting it a lot.Yeah, they have had ads all over the city for that. Every time I saw one I thought "oh, it will have the return date on it!" but it ends up being the A&E thing.

Sunday, April 8 is the dateThey are starting it on Easter?? That is an odd choice.
Lots of people visiting family then, but not that kind of 'family'. ;)

Agreed. I ordered HBO because of this series, but I really hate how they have been dragging it out.
Melikon 02-21-2007, 06:28 PM Isn't a movie in the works as well? If that's the case, I doubt if they'll kill off any of Tony's crew. Probably save the whackings for the movie.
Melikon 04-07-2007, 06:22 PM REMINDER!!!!! The Beginning of the End starts tomorrow night!!!!!!!!
ame en peine 04-08-2007, 09:35 PM It's finally back! What a long wait... I'm hoping they don't delve into the existential symbolic episodes like last season. This should be a short but very eventful ride..
Melikon 04-08-2007, 10:03 PM Bacala loses his cherry!!! lol.
Bobby and Tony fighting reminded me of a sumo match I went to while visiting Japan.
Pretty non-eventful episode but still glad the Sopranos is finally back.
ame en peine 04-08-2007, 11:45 PM That whole lake thing reminded me of Godfather II.. The house with the stone interior.. the boat.. the lake.. If that's the case, I wonder who the Fredo is..
Again, an episode of long sequences that seem to go nowhere.. But I know, they are building up to the finale.
DharmaChick 04-09-2007, 10:23 AM This seemed to be another symbolic episode.
Janice seemed to have changed but her true colors shine right through. I was cracking up when she said that Richie "went his separate way." Geez, she shot the guy!
Same thing with Tony... he seemed to have shown a change in character, but then proved that he is still the same person.
Carmella singing "Love Hurts" was strangely appropriate.
ame en peine 04-09-2007, 06:14 PM I loved when Christopher calls to wish Tony a happy birthday, and Tony hangs up on him.
I was cracking up when she said that Richie "went his separate way." Geez, she shot the guy! That was priceless.. She should have said "the back of his head and his body went seperate ways".. I can't stand her...
You're right, another really symbolic episode... Christopher's movie treatment keeps sticking in the back of my head: Godfather II meets Saw.. I think that's what we're leading up to..
johnnywishbone 04-10-2007, 01:42 AM It was actually a little better than i expected
I enjoyed the Bobby / Tony conversations
and I gotta say....
I don't think Bobby will ever be the same again
DharmaChick 04-10-2007, 03:18 PM I don't think Bobby will ever be the same againAgreed. This will change him, and I don't think that it will be in a good way. He always seemed to be a generally "better person" than the others, and now he will have the guilt of this on his shoulders. Tony knew this, too. When they were chatting in the boat, he mentioned that it was probably a good thing that Bobby didn't ever have to do that. Then he used it as punishment against him. I think that he provoked him intentionally, because he couldn't stand Bobby having that moral high ground in a way. Like that episode when Janice is doing well with anger management and Tony has to push every button he can think of to get her to snap.
Or, I also wonder if he wanted Bobby to do that anyway, to prove that he could handle taking over Christopher's position. I dunno.
I'm also thinking that nothing good can come of AJ's party at his parents' house. They are building up to some big problem there. AJ is such a twit.
ame en peine 04-10-2007, 11:01 PM I think that he provoked him intentionally, because he couldn't stand Bobby having that moral high ground in a way. Like that episode when Janice is doing well with anger management and Tony has to push every button he can think of to get her to snap.

I'm also thinking that nothing good can come of AJ's party at his parents' house. They are building up to some big problem there. AJ is such a twit.Agreed- that was the ultimate punishment for Bobby and Tony knew it.. All those long shots of the lake from Tony's perspective were (I think) Tony's attempt to wash at least some of the evil that is his life.. Then in the end, the final shot is Bobby, stunned and staring out at the lake. Very poignant.
I still cannot believe he beat up Tony. Oy.
Melikon 04-15-2007, 11:10 PM Cleaver, Alec Baldwin, what a riot.
Johnny Sack's got two daughters? One takes after her mom, lol, but the other one...
Sydney Pollack, Geraldo, Alec Baldwin, looks like all of Hollywood's famous wants on Sopranos.
Dissing the Asian Director of Chris's movie was a classic Sopranos moment. lol. Knew that was coming.
fenwayfan 04-16-2007, 09:31 PM yea, i saw that coming too with that poor director. so funny how he gets dissed by the dude in the amc uniform too who steals the microphone...
so what do you guys think....is this gonna end in a christopher vs. tony bloodbath?
ame en peine 04-16-2007, 11:50 PM Yup, I think Michael will kill Tony, then take over the family business - like Michael Corleone was boss in Godfather trilogy
We'll be getting Godfather II meets Saw as promised.. A bloodbath is coming.. Godfather II was about betrayal on every level.. Fredo betrays his brother reminds me of Bobby at the lake. The christening scene last night - I was so waiting for something to happen. Phil Leotardo/Leonardo is pissed and looking for revenge..
BTW: did anyone see the "Making of Cleaver" tonight? It was pretty funny..
fenwayfan 04-17-2007, 12:30 PM oh no i missed that. meant to watch. im sure they will replay it though.
Melikon 04-22-2007, 11:43 PM The return of Uncle Junior!!!
Absolutely hilarious episode, especially all of Corrado Soprano's scenes.
Anybody catch the flying slipper while Corrado was kicking the crap out of that Professor?

Definitely a homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
newfgirl 04-23-2007, 04:44 PM I thought for sure Paulie was going to 'sleep with the fishes' (literally ;) ) -actually I have been thinking he was on borrowed time for a while now since he started doing things against Tony's wishes.
It would be a good twist if Tony decided not to whack Paulie only to have Paulie's mouth run away from him with something that finally gives the feds (or possibly worse, Phil) what they need on Tony.
(LOL, everytime I see Phil - I think of his speech about Leonardo DaVinci and what happened to their name . To me, he will forever be Phil Leotard-o now )
I missed something though - who was it that got killed at the end? Another mob-boss? I can't keep them all straight anymore.
ame en peine 04-23-2007, 07:55 PM Definitely a homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.Definitely - so many things from that movie... Zonking Junior out on meds.. The high-strung troublemaker..
I missed something though - who was it that got killed at the end? Another mob-boss? I can't keep them all straight anymore.I can't either newfgirl - and that one happened so quick.. I looked it up at Television without Pity - they said it's Doc Santorro
I know what you mean with Leo-tardo! That's all I can think of now with him.. (was that a strange speech or what?? Part memorial / part classroom for kids..)
I so thought Paulie was going to get it (lol on the sleeps with fishes).... I give him 2 or 3 episodes until he gets it somehow...
Poor Junior - he's being snowed with meds... I hope his new friend doesn't come after him again..
Tony said at dinner "Remember when is the lowest form of conversation"... Never heard that before, has anyone else? It stuck out because that was the episode name..
DharmaChick 04-25-2007, 12:14 PM Anybody catch the flying slipper while Corrado was kicking the crap out of that Professor?

Definitely a homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.Lol! No, I missed that!
I thought for sure Paulie was going to 'sleep with the fishes' (literally ;) ) -actually I have been thinking he was on borrowed time for a while now since he started doing things against Tony's wishes.
It would be a good twist if Tony decided not to whack Paulie only to have Paulie's mouth run away from him with something that finally gives the feds (or possibly worse, Phil) what they need on Tony. Those scenes on the boat were definitely tense! First I'm thinking "is Paulie really going to poison Tony??" then they focused on the axe, and the knife... geez!!Tony said at dinner "Remember when is the lowest form of conversation"... Never heard that before, has anyone else? It stuck out because that was the episode name..
I guess the point was that Tony used to hold so much admiration and respect for Paulie. He even mentioned that at one point he wished that he were his father. It was kind of him (aside from the weird tension) to take Paulie fishing after he had that discussion about him being lonely. However, the way that he sees Paulie now is as an incompetent blabbermouth. He is having trouble reconciling the two. The "remember when" irritates him because it doesn't match who Paulie is now. He has kept him alive out of loyalty and former admiration, and it's starting to bug him.
I really liked that they filled us in on more of their relationship. It explains a lot.
I also enjoyed the parallel with Uncle Junior. He was putting himself in the "remember when" situation, too... and he wanted it to stay that way. That's why he declined the escape plan. He liked that he could live in the past where he was. It was sad that he kept calling the young guy "Anthony".
I wonder if the situation with that kid attacking Uncle Junior was foreshadowing something about Christopher going after Tony. He was in a similar situation: he put the guy in charge up on a pedestal, but was hurt and lashed out when he was disappointed in him.
I missed something though - who was it that got killed at the end? Another mob-boss? I can't keep them all straight anymore.Yeah, he was another candidate for taking Johnny's position, I think. Was he the guy responsible for killing off the guy who was in the restaurant with Silvio?
johnnywishbone 05-01-2007, 02:00 AM I missed something though - who was it that got killed at the end? Another mob-boss? I can't keep them all straight anymore.
Yeah, he was another candidate for taking Johnny's position, I think. Was he the guy responsible for killing off the guy who was in the restaurant with Silvio?
DC is exactly right.
He was the last guy standing in the way of Phil taking over at the helm....and he did order the hit on the guy in the restaurant.
I gotta think Phil is gonna start a war within a couple episodes.
And Tony better get that nasty gambling habit under control.....could you imagine if his final demise is comes at the hands of some piessed off bookie
ame en peine 05-03-2007, 11:40 PM It occurred to me after watching this epi, that Tony is all 7 deadly sins wrapped up into one big hairy body...
JWB - that would be ironic if the gambling does him in.. Not far from Al Capone being brought down for tax evasion.
It don't think Carmela's safe with him... His temper's flaring up again...
A showdown's coming..
Melikon 05-13-2007, 10:14 PM Wow...Didn't see that coming.
Odds of getting whacked/dying by the end of the series: (Feel free to add your own)

ame en peine 05-14-2007, 12:03 AM Wow, that one came out of left field.. What a shocker. Tony's a POS, but then we knew that already...

johnnywishbone 05-14-2007, 12:59 AM Tony on peyote?
wow, what a weird episode....
not really sure what else to say about it
ame en peine 05-14-2007, 12:37 PM Yeah, the episodes are getting decidedly wierder... Filled with more hidden meaning than content...
Tony on peyote... What I took from this is the pure irony of Tony "doing what he did", and then less than a week later - he's become that same person.. Doing drugs, drinking, right down to sleeping with the same girl...
It's like he's marking / claiming his territory... A very dominant act. If he was a dog he'd be peeing all over Christopher's back yard right now...
newfgirl 05-16-2007, 12:34 PM OMG - I fell behind a couple of episodes and just got caught up! Holy Moley!
old news now- but jeez, Christopher killed Tim Daly - BAM!
Then the stunner abotu Christopher! That was coming for a while but still- the way that happened and Tony afterwards --- sheesh!
Ha Ame - I kept thinking the same thing about Tony through out the episode. It also reminded me of Indians who scalped their enemies or the cannibals that ate the 'spirit' of their enemy as a final show of dominance. Creepy either way.
Yes, I smell a brewing blood bath. I kinda thought Christopher was going to whack Paulie and that was going to lead to his death but I guess not...still I see some bad juju for Paulie - he is going to be a pain in everyone's arse after no one showed up to Ma's funeral.
As much as I hate to see the show go away, there is something about the fact that they can off anyone at anytime without consequence that makes it more interesting. Weird, but intersting.
Melikon 05-20-2007, 10:35 PM Haven't seen Tony that pissed since he personally killed Ralphie over that race horse affair.
Where's all the young NYC mafia goombas? All we've seen is three prissy and shriveled up prunes!
A.J. can't even commit suicide correctly. lol.
Meadow finally gets a few lines of speach in an episode!! She was like so quiet and non-existent up to now. BTW, when did she break up with Finn? That came out of nowhere.
johnnywishbone 05-23-2007, 12:17 AM personally, i think that was the best episode of the season.
We're finally getting to the war that's been a brewin for quite some time.....just hope it happens before the show's over.
DharmaChick 05-23-2007, 09:57 AM Yeah, the episodes are getting decidedly wierder...
If he was a dog he'd be peeing all over Christopher's back yard right now...Agreed, the recent episodes have been more symbolic and reflective.
I also agree about Tony "marking his territory". In addition to that, I think that he was trying to prove that he could handle Christopher's life better than he was able to, sort of trying to prove to himself that Christopher was weak and foolish and deserved to die.
That what he resorted to when he couldn't get anyone to agree with him about feeling relieved.
Meadow finally gets a few lines of speach in an episode!! She was like so quiet and non-existent up to now. BTW, when did she break up with Finn? That came out of nowhere.Yeah, it was nice to see Meadow have a few lines! Meadow and Finn broke up during that weird chaos after Tony's hospital ordeal. She mentioned that they were having relationship issues, and I guess at some point she mentioned their split. They kind of implied that it was because he was uncomfortable with her family's background, but they barely covered it. I was kind of annoyed by that b/c you would think that it would have been a bigger deal.
Melikon 06-03-2007, 10:18 PM What a Kick Arse Episode!!!!!!!!
If this is a taste of things to come, I can't wait for the finale.
Wow. Bacala & possibly Silvio.
I always thought Bacala's fascination with train sets would be his undoing. lol.
That scene was brilliantly shot, with the slow-mo's edited in. Reminded me of that Peckinpah western, the Wild Bunch.
When they decided to bring the hitmen from Italy, I was hoping we'd see Furio Giunta once again.
Was this the last time we'll see Tony and Dr. Melfi together? I'd hate to think that all those seven years of visits were for naught.
Loved the final scene. Tony literally going "To the mattresses"
Can't believe it's almost over. Sopranos has to be the best written and acted show on TV/Cable ever.
newfgirl 06-04-2007, 08:00 AM Wow! BEST Sopranos episode yet - and I thought the last one was good.
I really wish they had done more of this earlier instead of the peyote and AJ episodes (I really really dislike AJ) but whatever, glad to have it now.
Phil Leotard -o is such an unpleasant person (although I prefer Paulie's description).
For an idiot, though he did a good job of outsmarting Tony.
RIP Bobby and maybe Sil (he has always been my fav).
On an unrelated topic-
I love the name of the bikini waxing place. OMG that is just so wrong but so Sopranos.
ame en peine 06-04-2007, 02:38 PM Wow - that was incredible. Sil's always been my fave too... I still picture him with a doo-rag on his head playing with Bruce Springsteen..
I guess that is the end of Tony & Dr. Melfi.. I was kind of waiting for them to jump in each others arms and get nasty.. Oh well.
They've kind of been hitting us over the head with AJ & The Mideast - he's become a sympathizer... Going out on a limb and predicting he'll somehow be involved in a terrorist event.
Also predicting that Tony's "don't worry the family never gets touched" line will bite him in the arse. Carmela or AJ will be going bye-bye I think... (agreed about AJ - could never stand the little punk)
I agree, Melikon- Bobby's final scene was shot beautifully.. His life ran off the tracks...
Newfgirl - can't remember the name of the waxing place... what was it?
One more show, guys.. Can't believe it's never going to come back...
newfgirl 06-04-2007, 09:05 PM I will spoiler-font. Not a spoiler and not censor worthy but a bit raunchy - kind of like the name of a certain crew member that got whacked in the first season. Not that it should bother anyone who watches the Sopranos but you never know
Flatbush Bikini Waxing
Who thinks of these things?!?
Ooh - good eye with AJ and the terrorism angle. I never thought of that.
My prediction: Paulie is a turn coat. When they asked if they should hit him they said No, there was all that stuff VIto & Carmela's money when Tony was in the hospital after being shot, he has always kind of done his own thing and has secretly gone against Tony on a few occasions, he thought Tony was going to whack him that time on the boat and we know from Sil that Phil has been trying to recruit people to his side. Or Not.
Favorite line of the night "There are no scraps in my scrapbook".
ame en peine 06-04-2007, 09:31 PM Oh my word, how funny... Thanks for that Newfgirl, but it's not a problem that they named it that! .... (spoiler-fonting just in case though)
Flatbush is in Brooklyn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatbush).. It's a series of towns... clever titling on the writer's parts though...
I just re-watched the epi again, and we were all saying how much we don't trust Paulie! I totally agree! Bet Tony's going to wish he took care of Paulie on the boat in Florida.. That was weird how he asked Sil and Bobby if Tony knew about the plan to make the hits.. Thinking like a true traitor... I can't stand Paulie.. He reminds me of a mean old pit bull, but with the mind of a nasty elephant who never forgets..
That scrapbook line was great... Leave it to Leo-tardo to deliver the memorable lines.. The other two guys looked at each other like WTF??
I loved when Tony took AJ down and shook some sense into him.. Sorry, but this is no time for him to talk about his feelings..
How unprofessional was it of Melfi's colleague to let the guests guess she had Tony for a client? What a moron.
Next week should be incredible
ADDED AFTER SERIES FINALE 6/10
What the hell was that?!?
Did everybody's screen just smash to black and roll credits with no real action happening??? I'm pissed beyond belief if that was really the final minutes..
Are we just supposed to assume that the guy who went into the bathroom will come out and kill everybody??
newfgirl 06-11-2007, 12:28 AM WTF?
On a different note- am I just sick or did anyone else laugh when the car rolled over Phil's head?
ETA: LOL I just noticed your edit Ame. I am glad I am not the only one.;)
ame en peine 06-11-2007, 07:07 AM WTF is right.... Good lord was there some cursing at the tv last night... The whole episode was a huge tease... So many scenes were shot to make you think a huge hit was imminent...
Paulie in the warehouse ("they're not here Tony") .....The guys waiting it out in the safe house (you never sit by a window but that's where they sat) and then door opens up... ... And of course the final scene, with cuts to every other person in or entering the diner, music blaring... I spent the finale on the edge of my seat... only to be kicked in the a*s by it...
Those scenes they showed us in the previews? A joke. The scene where AJ's looking wide-eyed up to the sky (because his SUV's on fire??... what??).. Tony and Pauly looking out their vehicle window, slo-mo in the snow (because..... the agent shows up?? - big deal)
Newfgirl
The Leotardo death was insane... ca-runch!! Did anyone else catch the pure irony there?? He said he would "decapitate" the other family.... Looks like the tables turned there, Philly boy...
Favorite moment: When Agent Harris is told that Leotardo's been killed and he gleefully cheers " Yay we're winning!!!" .... The other agent's look was classic.
But all in all, an extremely dissapointing cop-out finale from David Chase.. I guess he's leaving the franchise wide open for some sort of comeback, like a movie or special... It's just too bad that we - the fans - were given no satisfaction and no closure after 8 years of loyal viewing...
driveshaft76 06-11-2007, 07:26 AM What an absolutely pathetic way to end what has been one of the greatest TV shows ever. It's a double whammy because last weeks was sooo good, this weeks had nothing.
The two best things in the episode were Paulie and the cat, and Phil Leotardo's noggin' getting all squishy under the wheel of his giant SUV.
No closure... AT ALL! WTF?!?!? David Chase really screwed the fans on this one. Tony may or may not be indicted. Sil may or may not survive.
I feel like I did after I watched "Stranger in a Strange Land" from Lost which followed what I think is the best episode it's had "Flashes Before Your Eyes". At least Lost recovered and had a great season. There's nothing left for Sopranos now. What a major disappointment.
On a bright note however, John From Cincinnati which followed Sopranos was freaking amazing, even though I had no idea what the hell was going on. Big Love season 2 premieres tonight and Entourage is back next Sunday.
johnnywishbone 06-11-2007, 10:26 AM I'll join the WTF club on this one
but i was really enjoying the episode up until those last few seconds
Paulie and the cat was classic!
especially at the end with him sitting in front of Satriales,
taking in some rays and the kitty just strolling up and lying down.....
not sure why, but i really liked that
and with AJ......all it took was a fine German-made automobile and he's on cloud 9
too bad they didn't think of that earlier, lol
but that end was completely and utterly pathetic
Meadow really should learn to parallel park
newfgirl 06-11-2007, 11:27 AM I agree JW I liked the episode too - until then. I even rewound 4 or 5 times because I thought I missed something (thank goodness for DVRs, well I guess - didn't help a lot last nite).
Favorite parts:
1) Phil getting whacked
2) Phil's head getting run over
3) The guy puking after seeing Phils head run over :puke:
4) AJs car aka the Fireball - it couldn't happen to a nicer guy ;)
5) The FBI agent shouting 'We're going to win' (or whatever he said)
6) Paulie calling Tony a prick but in the end, getting his own crew.
Lots of people are a little 'miffed' at the way it ended - but I guess it does have us talking and it is memorable. :cursing: :149: :hissy:
ETA: LOL Driveshaft, I agree about not knowing what is going on with JFC but liking it anyway. Ep2 is on On-Demand where I live already so I watched the 2nd episode - it gets a little clearer (not much but a little). Deadwood was the like that too I thought - needed to watch episodes twice to follow but worth the extra viewing.
fenwayfan 06-11-2007, 06:39 PM im with WTF too. i dont mind teasing if there is an eventual pay off. here -- there wasnt. david chase has done such a great job in the past, i dont think so here.
ame en peine 06-11-2007, 07:12 PM Now that it's over, I wonder if The Sopranos will go into syndication like "Sex and the City" did.... If it does, it might be a 3-minute show - something like this parody Mad TV did a while back.. I laugh every time I see it...
Sopranos parody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp4QVYNAFcQ)
Paulie and the cat was classic!
especially at the end with him sitting in front of Satriales,
taking in some rays and the kitty just strolling up and lying down.....
not sure why, but i really liked that
Paulie and the cat was so funny... typical Paulie.. and that scene outside Satriales was great..
I feel like I did after I watched "Stranger in a Strange Land" from Lost which followed what I think is the best episode it's had "Flashes Before Your Eyes". At least Lost recovered and had a great season. There's nothing left for Sopranos now. What a major disappointment. The Sopranos series finale is a Master Class on how not to end a show.. The makers of Lost should take note..
A while back I read somewhere that the Sopranos was turning into "Dallas" with garbage... Truer words were never spoken after seeing last night, which rivals the Dallas "it was all a dream" ending...
Entourage is back next SundayShould be good - the boys are going on location for Medellin... (I hope Ari and Lloyd tag along)
5) The FBI agent shouting 'We're going to win' (or whatever he said)
THAT'S what he said... Thanks newfgirl..
Chuck4207 06-11-2007, 10:27 PM Now that it's over, I wonder if The Sopranos will go into syndication like "Sex and the City" did.... If it does, it might be a 3-minute show - something like this parody Mad TV did a while back.. I laugh every time I see it...

caforrest2047 06-12-2007, 11:31 AM I thought it was brilliant, the writer, Chase wrote and directed the Finale, gave us all something unexpected which is what great writers do, hats off to everyone involved in the Finale it was great. Also you(the viewer) decides what happens next, or maybe a movie.
Danni 06-12-2007, 12:16 PM Here are my thoughts, at the risk of requiring mob calibre bodyguards :lol2: but hey, that's what we're here for, right?
At first I was like, wtf? And yep, we backed up and watched it a second time to make sure we didn't miss anything. And then the more I thought about it, I felt it was fitting. It reminded me of the 24 finale, somewhat subdued, but at least they weren't killing themselves trying to outdo themselves. Some people were expecting a big blood bath, so we're not gonna do that. Too obvious. So we get Phil to satisfy that little bit of gore greed we have developed here. Any time I get what I don't expect to get, I think it's a good thing.
If I've got it all figured out, there's no point and I'm not impressed. That's when I feel let down.
You just never know who's gonna come thru the door next.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
I don't think they want us to have closure. They're breaking the rules, shaking things up. That way the characters stay alive for us. What is going to happen to them? That's in our heads now because we don't know. And we want to.
Tony was oblivious to everything going on around him, I even saw that. He's out in the open with the people he supposedly cherishes the most, he has no protection, he has no clue. He's not that smart, we've seen it time and time again. He will get what's coming to him. How or when, that's not something they're willing to share.
Maybe leaves things open for a movie at some point? Who knows.
and Meadow and the car thing - I was starting to laugh - is she gonna get whacked out here on the street? No, the poor girl just can't parallel park. So smart, but can't park her car. I thought that was hilarious.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
This morning in the paper I read something I had completely forgotten.
When Bobby B and Tony are on the boat, Bobby mentions something to the effect: They say you don't even hear it coming.
What if, T does gets whacked there at the end – represented by the black screen, but we don't hear the shot because of that. Silent credits too, first time ever, which I now tie into this theory.
What if, we do have closure, we just don't realize it yet.
What if it really is brilliant.
btw, David Chase stated he doesn't have any plans for a movie, not his intention.
And I think, the more I think about it, Meadow and her car thing, that whole stupid scene, something innocuous like that, it saves her life -- she's not sitting at the table with the rest of them. Sorta like you get caught in a traffic jam and damn I missed my boat by 10 minutes so you toss your Titanic ticket into the trash.
Starrox 06-12-2007, 12:37 PM The Sopranos series finale is a Master Class on how not to end a show.. The makers of Lost should take note..
Hmmmm.... (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/12/arts/television/12sopr.html?_r=1&ref=television&oref=slogin)
BOBBY 06-12-2007, 01:41 PM haven't seen it yet, but the stupid radio stations here spoiled it for everyone monday morning, and its in the papers today
newfgirl 06-12-2007, 02:18 PM Oh man does that stink Bobby!
Definitely one of those things that is better as a surprise.
I am still in the WTF camp, but on subsequent viewing and thought, I am coming to appreciate the ending a little more. I don't think I would have liked an ending that had him getting killed or arrested or even just a happy family dinner.(even though that is what I thought I wanted) I hate to say it but I am starting to think this may not have been such a raw deal afterall. Frustrating yes, but maybe not so bad in the total Sopranos picture.
Here is an article in a NJ paper that I thought was interesting
(Maybe the same article Danni refers to?)
http://blog.nj.com/alltv/2007/06/david_chase_speaks.html
It's funny because I work in an Ad related field and this was linked to in an article in the major trade mag for the industry. What's funny about it is that Sopranos is of course on HBO - an ad free network. I just think it is interesting that it has gotten this much attention even in businesses it doesn't really impact.
HBO has got to be ecstatic over all the buzz. Love it or Hate it - it is attention.
That and it got almost 12 million viewers Sunday night (I got a 'breaking news' alert with that from a different ad related mag :34853_huh: ) Other than 60 minutes it was the highest rated show of the night and ran circles around the NBA championship and the Tony's.
I will miss this show.
ame en peine 06-12-2007, 09:56 PM Hmmmm.... (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/12/arts/television/12sopr.html?_r=1&ref=television&oref=slogin)
Whoa... That's freaky.. ask and ye shall receive..
Unfortunately for us Lost fans, it sounds like Darlton liked the ending..
Which means we should look forward to a completely ambiguous ending so they can leave themselves wide open for a possible movie franchise.. Awesome.
This finale just set a precendence for every series to finish their run with an ending that serves the studio more than the fans, by leaving the door open just a crack for future endeavors while offering no closure for the viewer..
BOBBY 06-13-2007, 12:01 PM LOST exec's... lessons too be learnt here....
johnnywishbone 06-15-2007, 12:39 PM interesting article here.....

i don't like the idea of Tony being dead
I don't either, but the more I think about it - he is..
I watched the scene again and came away with some new insight...
He's listening to what's obviously a nostalgic, well-loved song about hope (don't stop believing)
He's in one of his favorite little food joints with an onion ring or two in his belly ("best ones in Jersey")
He's surrounded by his family... The three people he loves the most in his world. His Trinity... Just like Leotardo who dies looking at probably the three people he loves most in this world: the twins and his wife.. (Bobby died with his beloved trains.. So they all go out with a happy last image..)
When he looks up in the final seconds, it's at Meadow.. Out of the three people at that table, Meadow holds his heart the tightest. At various times he's felt disdain and contempt for Carmela and AJ.... but Meadow's his little girl.. If there was one person Tony would pick to be his last image on this earth, it would probably be her...
But.. unfortunately we won't ever know for sure until they decide to do a follow-up..
DharmaChick 06-25-2007, 11:33 AM I like the theory that WE (the audience) got whacked.
Somebody was killed, I think.
Obviously there is that strong connection to what Bobby said about death (not hearing anything and just going to black) because there was even a flash back to that conversation in the previous episode.
Also, there was that guy in the diner with the "Members Only" jacket -- "Members Only" was the title of the ep when Tony was shot.
Whomever was killed, they seem to confirm that Meadow is safe: "Long-Term Parking" is the ep where Adrianna dies, and her car was put in long-term parking at the airport. Meadow couldn't seem to park, which hints that she survived whatever happened.
What makes me think that the audience was whacked is the song that was playing. It implies to me that their story continues, but it is the end of the ride for us -- this is all we get to see.
Earlier in this ep (and the previous ep) they showed a lot of references to television. This seems to be there to remind us that we are outside the picture, and that soon we will no longer have this window into their world. The extended black screen was the final push -- it forced us out of the story and sent us back to our own reality.
I think that this was really the only way that they could have ended the series. It's frustrating to the viewers, but I think it was the best that could be done.
