Anyone remember this 1996 NBC gem?
About a government cover up of a UFO crash and it's consequences in our history?
The show was based on the Roswell crash. In it, there were survivors, and they colonized on Earth in hives. (They were actually called The Hive) The cool aspect of Dark Skies was that it incorporated actual historic events with Alien implications, (including the assassination of JFK and The Beatles's Madison Square Gardens concert etc) and it was supposed to run through the year 2000 with a huge plot reveal...Unfortunately, it got pulled after one season...Waaay ahead of it's time, and surely would have hit a little too close to home for some....(There were talks about incorporating a Goerge Bush Sr look alike with the hive in the 4th season!) I think it got pulled because it would have made too many people re-think what happened and question a lot of our history books.
It was brilliantly crafted and well written. Anyone else miss the show?
Here's a great link to read about or catch up on Dark Skies with quotes from executive producer Bryce Zabel. Here's my favorite...
By chronicling Loengard's career with Majestic, Dark Skies will be offering something that many fans hoped to see in the X-Files, but has never satisfactorily emerged -- a continuing storyline that makes fictional sense out of the diverse lore of UFO phenomenon (http://www.cyberverse.com/~elf/textlist.htm) and government secrets. (http://www.chemengr.ucsb.edu/~chaubal/issues/ciabase.txt) While many fans will no doubt continue to favor the soft-focus approach of "Brand X," Dark Skies doesn't just confront you with mysteries. In this world, the Truth isn't "out there," it's right in your face. (http://www.netcom.com/~creepie/encounters.html)
And
"If there is no such reality, the question remains whether, for instance, the implication that JFK was assassinated due to knowledge that he had about UFOs trivializes his death, or demeans his family and memory. Well, JFK and his life have been thoroughly mythologized already. He's increasingly a figure of history. No one would question a similar dramatic use of, for instance, Abraham Lincoln. It makes it a bit edgier to have JFK, but the principal is entirely the same. The harder ones will be further along in the series -- like the fourth season, when we will have George Bush collaborating with the Hive. (http://www.clas.ufl.edu/anthro/activism/octopus.html)"

Yeah, it was just awesome.
