I think it makes you a Flocke target. I think he's trying to either turn or eliminate them one by one.

First heard by Sam Toomey in Australia in approximately 1988 being broadcast from the Island. Used by Hurley for his cursed lottery numbers. The broadcast must have been recorded by somebody prior to being overwritten by Rousseau in the late 80’s / early 90’s. Imagine Hurley being instructed by Jacob to record those numbers onto the tape after some more time travel back to the appropriate period, only the tape runs out before he’s finished, i.e. “4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 … 51 damn, tape’s run out dude.” This would explain why Kate’s not part of the Magic Numbers that we’re aware of, but could still be an important Candidate.

We're a couple of episodes behind the States here, so if this has since been shown to be false in Sundown or Dr. Linus, please just state so without spoiling me...thanks!
to the 'Lage! That would be funny if that's the way it happened. However, by in '77, they were already using the specific numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 with no 51. Like some have mentioned on this thread, I'm beginning to think it's supposed to be a mirror image of Sawyer's number 15. Either that or it means that Kate's a wildcard.

Re: The Dial Discussion Thread

Do we actually know for sure that Kate's real last name is Austen/Austin? I've always been suspicious of her name, she has given it differently in so many flashbacks and she hesitated when giving it to Juliet.

Pretty sure they said her name when she was on trial.

Her legal father was Major Sam Austen and they used her name "Katherine Austen" in the courtroom and didn't name it as an alias.

Re: The Dial Discussion Thread

I've read the first 12 pages of this thread but time constraints must I dive right in:

SHEPHARD: Ray.

Alive in the company of a white rabbit last time I saw him and the shoes he told Jack belonged to Christian are already on the Island.

BARNES: fisrt name of the Wallis who invented the backwards rotating bouncing and truly terrifyingly sounding gravity bombs. ok. that one's for fun. I'll do some real work when I have the time.

ETA: I've read all the thread, Welcome N00bs! you're putting me to shame, so many smart ideas and I can't see beyond playing with the names we don't know selected. case in point:

I can do youse a Bewitched Moorhead to fill those number 22 shoes: Agnes. Her Wiki entry hits a few LOST bases and her filmography reads like a season's box set : http://samstephens.tripod.com/agnes.html

The Swan
Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte
What's the Matter with Helen?
The Left Hand of God
Caged
The True Story of Jesse James
The Story of Mankind
The Beginning of the End

and my favourite: Twenty Plus Two

the very number assigned the name.
