Re: Flashsideways: Answers You Missed on "Lighthouse"
very nice thread... and Jane, good questions...
the 3 point of views of Jack is interesting since there are 3 point of views of what Cindy says on 815 in season 1... just to remind you
In Jack's flashback, Cindy says, "Ladies and gentlemen, the Pilot has switched on the fasten seatbelt signs." In Charlie's flashback, Cindy says, "Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the fasten seatbelt signs." In Kate's flashback, Cindy says, "Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has switched on the fasten seatbelt signs."
...that these flashbacks are "imperfect" memories is what the different POVs seem to be saying to us. I think that's important to note since the flash sideways are occurring in 2004, while the Island Losties are in 2007.
I thought Jack's description about the house in the lighthouse mirror was puzzling as well... just his choice of diction.
Given the Schrodinger's cat type of description of the sideways as a "what if scenario"complete with a different past for the characters... I do think choice may be involved in what eventually gets recorded as the ultimate status of the timeline... as for now, both seem to exist in a state of superposition. Will there be a cumulative effect of both timelines merging or will choices be mixed and matched? Who finally will be chosen as the observer?
