No indeed, our toes are not stepped upon. We had kinda hit a wall on translating the whispers because we didn't have good audio equipment to isolate them with. I'm anxious to see what RVT and Penyours come up with on several of our pet whispers appearing on the "To-do" list!
"To understand what happened at the diner, we'll use Mr. Papaya. This is upsetting, because he is the friendliest of fruits." --Walter, "Fringe"
"We’ve basically been feeding the audience crystal meth for a year, to cut them off cold turkey and give them a pack of chewing gum and say, “We’ll give you more crystal meth in Season 6,” would have been a disaster. When you piss off a junkie, they will do almost anything to get their drug." --Damon
Just wanted to say that finding this thread was truly a great moment. Believe it or not, I've been hearing the whispers since 1992! They'd usually come at night, after everyone else had gone to bed...just strange, echoing voices in my head. Or so I thought. It was just so hard to hear what they were saying.
For years, psychologist after psychologist could not find a way to help me. After all, I felt sane. I didn't hear any other strange voices. But I found a way to cope with it, and thirteen years later I'd begun to live a normal life. Then...Lost happened.
At the first occurrence of the whispers, I screamed. These couldn't be happening so early in the evening! I started looking immediately for my sixteenth psychologist--one of them was bound to result in success eventually. Alas, two days and $120 later, still no luck. I had lost part of my hair and the whispers now seemed to be triggered by watching my favorite show. It seemed I could take nothing for granted.
Then came Abandoned. And this thread. Other people could hear the whispers! At first I thought it was one of my psychologists, going under the name rvturnage, trying to give me the closure I so desperately needed. But more and more replies kept pouring in, and I gradually began to realize I wasn't alone. I was part of a special group of people that hears things beyond the normal realms of science. And so, my friends, are each of you.
I've been going in to the TW thread as often as I could. Work had had me for 10+ hrs a day for sometime now. A few hours at night is all I have as of late. Thanks LostLaura for the PM. I was looking forward to the changeover. Looking good and kudos to all who pulled it all together. Lots of thought goes into compiling and listing these links and various works done my many posters. We now have gumpy and rvt and pen , just to mention a few, ( not intentionally forgetting anyone) that have brought put the voices to the whispers. What are you going to do with all this information SamG? teehee, You better get busy.
I just went thru a tragic experience with the loss of Lost Forum as I was registered with them. What a tragedy to loose all there compiled information and work. I was really ticked off, big time.
Doc, I feel your pain man. I can finally tell my shrink I don't need to see her anymore 'cause the whispers have been real all along.
This is a beautiful shiny new home/thread dedicated to the Whispers. Aww!!

Well, we do have the long lost list site. All the whispers are compiled there. It's one way to get them out there. Others that do not have access to equipment that pen and rvt have can now be enjoyed by many.
My thoughts: it appears there's more than one monster...apparently several..and a whole lot of people controlling them! They also seemed to be surprised, which seems to contradict TPTB's "They were brought here for a reason". Unless someone from within DHARMA had second thoughts, and intentionally crashed the plane in order to thwart what was going on...mole anyone?
Appears they were going to leave the losties alone if they stayed on the beach..when they entered the jungle...."they're now an intruder". Also, these seem to be some pretty cruel SOB's...teasing Kate when she's hiding in the tree "like the way you left them to be eaten"...
And what's that interferance..."try and get to the tower"? I'd really like to hear from some of you "old WHISPER shippers"...love to get your input on what you all think!
These voices remind me a lot of the whisperers...if not for the disparity of the whispers not knowing about the crash when they first encounter Sayid, I'd swear they were related. Perhaps there's more clues between the pilot and solitary...
To clarify, RVT. When you say Monster at the Beach, do you mean when the Losties are on the beach and hear the monster for the first time in the jungle? All of these voices overlap with the sounds of the monster? jeez...
And the Monster at the cockpit... when do the voices start? As soon as you can start to hear the Monster? Maybe I'll rewatch those scenes tonight to get a better sense of what's going on...
The voices continue as you hear the monster sounds, all the way through Kate hiding?

Well, we have these possibe instances between the Pilot and Solitary: Pilot 2
1. Polar Bear killed by Sawyer (RVT's draft available)
Walkabout
1. Monster approaching Locke
House of the Rising Sun
1. Possible whispering when Jack & Kate enter the caves for the first time
The Moth
1. Charlie's encounter with the boar
Maybe any of those scenes could help with the confusion?
Or add to the confusion?
I am so totally creeped out by them mentioning the pilot (also "captain")... grabbing him, chasing them, killing them all, scaring poor Kate (it is so so so so so hard to think of her as the mole during this scene. To be honest with you, this is the one scene where I just can't believe in that theory.)....
and the line "Do you like the way you left him to be eaten" is great. We knew that the death of the pilot was signifcant, i.e. how he died, since Javi said so... but that line makes it even moreso important.... but it is confusing. I mean, he wasn't eaten by the monster. He was left to eaten. Weird, right?
Ok, I need to look at these transcripts more closely, look back at the Solitary trasncripts... try and hear anything in the files....

Wow, amazing transcript. Seems again like there is some debate within the whisperers, like they know what they have to do, but they don't necessarily like it. ("What a lousy thing to go through" or "Stick to the plan").
As for "try and get to the tower" is that one whisperer saying that to another, or would that really be "they might try and get to the tower" as in, a warning on what the crash survivors might do? Maybe they feel that them getting to the tower would be a big problem. The writers obviously think the tower is a big deal - otherwise they would have shown it to us by now!

You know, RVT, I'm thinking about this ever-long conversation about the different groups of whispers, how many group there are, if the groups corellate with the Others, etc... We were discussing in the old thread about whether or not the groups work against each other... What if that's not it? What if the confusion is because of the hierarchy within the group? There's several examples from transcripts of when someone asks why they should do something or if it's okay to do something, and someone has a reply about orders, etc.... maybe at different times we hear different levels of the hierarchy and that's why some of them know information and some of them don't and they have to be informed by others from the group or discover a Lostie on their own to even know about the survivors....
Here's some snippets. Someone knows information but someone else or the rest of them don't. The ones without the information are worried but someone else isn't.
Just snippets...
From Solitary: why only isolate him; I said we do; You have no idea how he got here?
Standing orders; Security issue.
From Outlaws: Let's see what he's doing; Let me decide.
(Then there seems to be a whole discussion about someone knowing he was in a plane crash but the others not knowing that. Someone in the group knows what it's like for a plane to crash.)
Then the 48Days and Abandoned transcripts seem totally different. The conversations, if you will, seem to be totally different than the other transcripts we have so far.
RVT, I think you were thinking that possibly the Monster voices were a different group from the Whisper voices, but I'm not so sure. Yes, the monster voice first says "Who are you and why are you here?" so it seems like that group doesn't have the same knowledge of the Losties. But then right after someone says "Report, report" and then later "Those are the roles (rules) you accept.".... so might that a hierarchy issue as well?
Just trying to put some pieces together.... and now I'm really wondering why the "feeling" or "vibe" of the 48Days and Abandoned transcripts are so very different... am I the only one who feels that way?
