Some genetic engineering by Mittlelos Bioscience and later Dharma produces or helps to produce our "special people," including Ben, Aaron, Locke, and Walt. Remember the skylight in Walt's mother's house? Octagon shaped. Susan Lloyd died from a blood disorder.
Brian, Walt's adoptive father, came all the way to NYC from Austrailia without Walt so that Michael would have to go to Austrailia to get his son back. Brian seemed legitimately freaked out by Walt's ability to summon the bird from his book just to have it crash into the window and die. "There's something about him. Sometimes, when he's around, things happen. He's different somehow."
I wonder if Walt's specialness is related to how his emotions can directly interact with his environment. At the time of the Cuckoo bird crashing, he was very angry.
Once on the island, the Whispers say that Walt is "infected." The Others call Walt very special but dangerous. And despite the fact that Jacob wants Walt because he is special; Juliet, Tom and Bea decide they are afraid of Walt, and want Ben to let him go. So Ben lets Walt and Michael leave the island but plans to keep tabs on them.
Why do the Others perceive Walt as dangerous? "My dad Brian said I was the luckiest person he ever knew." Remember how Walt threw that knife at the tree like a pro? He can control the weather. Set his dad's raft on fire. Send his dad psychic communications via the computer. "Has Walt ever been somewhere he wasn't meant to be?"
Juliet was glad that Michael was going to get Walt away from the island. Ben says Walt was more than they bargained for. Yet he sounds like the perfect Other to bring into the fold. Why did they let him go? What does Jacob want with all the special people?
i agree. his emotions def have direct effect...... seems like hes learning to control it too. but i havent really toyed with the idea of CREATING "special people", it sure would be interesting. great post, thank you.

This is a very good thread that fell off the main stream too quickly.
The Missing Pieces episode that dealt with Walt's power was quite an eye opener. It really did fill in some important missing pieces. But, as it always happens on Lost, getting one thing answered usually brings up two new mysteries .
i thought that it was odd that they brought him back at the end of season 4 all grown if they weren't gonna use him next year. i think it would be fantastic to have him join the show again. he could go back and find his father dead.....or alive?
You could put Jack and Kate on a New York City street and have them pass each other at rush hour on a Wednesday morning. And they would stop and turn, slowing to watch each other go by. They know each other within the context of a universal recognition. They have met before this life. And, they will meet again, in another.

I honestly don't think HP will be on the show again. I personally wouldn't mind if another actor filled the spot for Michael, but some people believe bringing in a different actor is sac religious. To me, they're just doing a job, sometimes you have a new employee doing the work of an former employee.
The Psychology Video show what seems to be IVF on an egg. Octagon Global Recruiting is looking for IVF consultants. Thomas Mittlework is the world's foremost authority on biology and genetics. The Institute for Genomic Advancement is one of the projects of The Hanso Foundation. Juxtapositional Eugenics is a research goal for DHARMA.
Does this prove that Special people were genetically manipulated?? If so, and Walt was, why would they let him leave?
The German version of the Barracks Video reveals...
...Our mission is to study these properties for the betterment of mankind and advancement of world peace. The worldwide peace, the end of all hostilities and wars was linked to the hope of the arrival of a redeemer for centuries. The messiah - who destroys all hostiles to unite all peaceful people in harmony. But now, after 2000 years of waiting, a group of scientists has [inaudible] ...leadership of... [inaudible] ... DeGroot... [inaudible]
Or could the goal simply be to find people like Walt, sequence their genes, try and figure out what genes are associated with Walt's abilities. And then use this information to alter someone else's DNA?? Once they got Walt's blood for sequencing, they no longer needed him.
i, personally, don't think he's alive. he did what he was suppose to do to save his friends or the island or whatever. also, when you trash talk a show, the producers usually don't want you back.
however, i would love to see a reunion between walt and vincent.

Maybe they didn't "let" Walt leave as much as they NEEDED him to leave so the rest of the story could play out. I don't like that 'theory', but I can't figure out any other reason for it. If he has all these powers that are so important to their work, plans, whatever, it seems they'd keep him and exploit those powers, or teach Walt to fine-tune them and control them better. That whole "Walt is special" storyline kind of disappeared, and that really bugs me. But I'll betcha two bananas that Walt is integral to the last two seasons. Otherwise, that's a huge ball for TPTB to have dropped.

Yep, whatever little pieces Michael was blown into have long ago been eaten by the fishies.
However, that does not preclude the appearance of a Zombie Michael. What better case is there to bring in a different actor than when the character turns into a zombie ?
