Question Hurley's mom's reaction to the explanation

Did anyone else think that Hugo's mom seemed to make a kind of mental note about the phrase Dharma Initiative when her son was trying to explain "the truth" about the last several years? It was the only real concrete thing she could grasp in all that jumble of Hurley's stream of truth, but it may come back around that somehow Hurley's mom and the DI get connected when things get even weirder than they are now.

Re: Hurley's mom's reaction to the explanation

When he was explaining to her I honestly thought she was going to say something like "I know son, I know everything that happened" hmm, I'm going to have to rewatch that part. There has to be more to her reaction, or maybe I'm over analyzing! Ah! I just hope Widmores people or someone comes after her now that she DOES know :O

Re: Hurley's mom's reaction to the explanation

I have been thinking for awhile that many of the survivor's parents were involved with Dharma. Kate's dad served with Kelvin in the Army, Jack's dad taking trips to Australia, and Hurley's dad being missing all those years. Maybe this year we will see all of them on the island in some form?

What I was expecting was for Hurley to say "Wow now that I say all that out loud to someone who wasn't there, it sounds totally insane!"

If there's anything to it at all, it would be because the Dharma Initiative is the only piece of the puzzle that could be known to the wider public.

Spoiler:
Besides, isn't part of this season going to be about the Dharma Initiative being reconstituted?

Hey Pink, I'm gonna have to see that part again. I think you may have something there.

Our first reaction was that only a mom can tell if her children are telling the truth. I think she knew her son's rantings and this time she knew he was telling the truth.

On a side note, after hearing Hurley's explanation (re-cap for us) of what has happened on the Island (the show) I thought to myself, "That sounds pretty crazy. Why am I watching this show?"

I think there was something in the nachos I was eating. Maybe they were Dharma nachos. Hmmm.

Re: Hurley's mom's reaction to the explanation

Maybe Hurley's mother heard of the DI back in the 70s? Lots of people joined Jim Jones' cult... perhaps she heard of this cult back in the day leading to credence of Hurley's story? Who in their 30s and above these days don't know of the Moonies? They crossed borders the cult was so big.

Re: Hurley's mom's reaction to the explanation

i'm thinking her reaction was only because throughout his ridiculous sounding explanation a word of some kind of substance came out of it. she probably thought, i need to look that up on the internet. that way she would be able to understand more on what hurley was saying.

i found it very touching that she said she believed him, as only a mother would. i think she raised hurley to be a moralistic person and she knows how much he does not like to lie.

my prediction; however is:

Spoiler:
his mother will be murdered because he told her.

what i found interesting was when sayid woke up and he was asking jack where hurely was.

jack: he's at home

sayid: with who?

jack: his mother, i guess.

and then sayid said something about hurley being safe. it struck me that sayid was concerned about anyone's safety involved with hurley.

You could put Jack and Kate on a New York City street and have them pass each other at rush hour on a Wednesday morning. And they would stop and turn, slowing to watch each other go by. They know each other within the context of a universal recognition. They have met before this life. And, they will meet again, in another.

I can't see them ever killing Carmen. That would cast too much darkness on a lighthearted set of characters.
