Bye bye Redshirts

Not a terribly important plot point, but jeeze, these guys are dropping like flies lately.
That's two gone this episode added to the three (including Frogurt) that died in The Lie.

When they did a group shot on the beach last episode, there seemed to be very few survivors left... like 10 or so.

Anyone have an idea as to how many are left? Or should be left?

They had four seasons to kill off these apparently unimportant characters, but now it's happening all of a sudden... just feels strange.

It just highlights why I never understood that they bothered to have anyone besides the main characters (and those with speaking roles -- arzt etc) survive the crash in the first place.

Re: Bye bye Redshirts

Didn't "Blondie" say there were 20 of them on the beach (when the jumped into this time) before two of them bit it this episode.

Anyone else still alive is either still back there or fled with Rose and Bernard and Vincent.

Re: Bye bye Redshirts

I do give the writers points for not giving the latest redshirts names and funerals.
I just feel bad for ones like Artz and Frogurt, they got stressed out and borderline hysterical (let's face it, that'd be most of us in that situation) and then kablam your all exploded or ping there's a flaming arrow in your chest.

Re: Bye bye Redshirts

The deaths of all the redshirts makes me think that the main characters were the only ones meant to make it to the island and survive. All the rest of the passengers were collateral damage. The island only needs our original losties to stay.

Re: Bye bye Redshirts

My suspicion, and I believe Darlton have said words to this effect, is that the great mass of redshirts are no longer spectacularly necessary now that they know where they're going and how long they have to finish the story...thus, they can get rid of them and not have to worry about accounting for them any more. Kind of a simple mechanical issue for the writers.

How many redshirts are left?

They're dropping like flies!!!

Is there a running count anywhere? There used to be one on lostpedia, but I can't find it now.

Think there'll be some sort of beach reunion, with just a few and we'll get a line, or something similar to: "This is all that's left!"

Nevermind... found an excellent source, search for Body Count on Lostpedia.

Re: How many redshirts are left?

The only one I care about now are ROSE, BENRARD and Vincent if you can call him a red shirt
