"Since when has listening to Ben gotten you anywhere?"

I loved this line (what I remembered of it lol) spoken by Christian Shephard.

We (and the Losties) are always suspicious of Ben. We ALL know he always has a trick up his sleeve....yet we willingly listen to him everytime. I personally find myself trusting him...yet I don't know why!

Anyhow....

So Locke was 'supposed' to move the Island, but Ben did instead. Do you believe all that has happened is because it was BEN who moved it and not Locke? Has everything we've seen been direct repercussions caused by this specific mistake?

In other words:

When Locke went to the cabin, he specifically said "How do I save the Island?", while Christian seemed to be in a hurry to get this all over with before the freighter got to the island....therefore...Locke moving the island seemed to be the solution right? Would the Island be time skipping anyway even if it was Locke who moved it?

Is there a possibility that Christian was and is lying?

Lots of questions. Help me out here....my head is going in circles.

Re: "Since when has listening to Ben gotten you anywhere?"

I'm starting to question that more and more. And I'm with you on Ben. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he made the statement to Michael that they were the good guys, simply because Lost does like to turn things round and round, but the more I think about Ben in the season finale, the more I find myself wondering what the hell he really is up to. The O6 weren't supposed to leave, and Ben enabled them to do so. So this presents a problem in that either Ben was intentionally enabling them to get off the island, which means Ben was working against the wishes of the island, or Ben intentionally sent them to their deaths, which was just another reason for killing Keamy. "But you killed all those people on the freighter! ....So?"

Either way, it looks kind of bleak for Ben. A third, out there option is what some people are starting to propose, and that is that the island isn't benevolent and that whatever agenda is surrounding it is NOT beneficial. If that were the case then Ben could be playing multiple sides in a bid to stop whatever is supposedly coming.

I appreciated that line, too. What is Ben really up to? Is there any portion of good in him? Is there any reason to listen to him this time? Ever since we knew about him, we've known him as Henry Gale from Minnesota, and he wasn't really Henry Gale, and he wasn't from Minnesota.

Why did he work so hard to prevent anyone from leaving, but he allowed the 6 to leave, but yet 3 years later is doing everything he can to round them back up? Why did Ben want the entire boat to be destroyed, when only a portion of the crew were mercenaries. Or why did he wait to destroy the boat (when Michael could have) when the whole mess could have been avoided?

Those are my thoughts ... enjoy

I loved this line. It throws Ben's redemption into doubt. I love Ben's character best when he's complicated. Working for his own ends as much as what he perceives as the greater good.

It also made me think of the two incarnations of Christian Sheppard that we've seen - Business and Casual. Personally, I think the clothing change represents two different island personalities, or warring factions. Casual's plans may have been thwarted for a time with Ben off island, or with Locke remaining behind.

From about season 2, I have always seemed to "trust Sayid". At least for me, he always seems to have a good idea of people's true intentions.
I don' t trust Ben and still don't completely believe that Ben is a good guy. I also wonder just how evil Widmore is. (don't get me wrong, he's an A-1 certifiable ***)

Ben did commit a mass murder in the name of the island.

Re: "Since when has listening to Ben gotten you anywhere?"

Heh, for some reason, I never ever trust Ben. Even when he seems on the level, I'm mentally screaming at the TV "Noooo Sayid, don't work for Ben!" and "Jack, why are you listening to Ben? Remember when he locked you up?" and "Yeah Hurley, that's right, get the hell away from Ben!" I am sure I can attribute this largely to Michael Emmerson and his ability to seem creepy even when his character is trying to be sincere or fatherly or whatever.

So yeah, I was saying "Right on, Christian!" when he made that quip to Locke. Which made me realize I trust Christian more than Ben, even when he's most likely a walking corpse. Weird, eh?

ETA: quizzical, that's a brilliant observation. I wonder, could it be that's the key to differentiating between Smokey inhabiting a dead person to suit it's own purposes and the actual spirit (or time stamp, or whatever) of the dead person appearing to relay something important? Jack seeing Christian in his coffin suit=Smokey. Yemi appearing to Eko in the clothes he wore when he crashed on the island=Smokey. But casual Christian=actually Christian? So then Charlie appearing to Hurley looking all cleaned up and rock star studly was actually Charlie? And Boone appearing to Locke looking hot was really the spirit of Boone? Or not....
