So "Temporal Displacement" ISN'T the Sickness Danielle Spoke Of?
We all got pretty comfortable in thinking that the "sickness" that Danielle had spoken of on numerous occasions was actually what we've later come to know as "temporal displacement" -- i.e. what Charlotte died of. (Boo!)
But now it seems as though the "sickness" is something else altogether. How did Robert know about the temple and its security system? And why was he about to kill his pregnant wife?
It seems there's another "sickness" with which we've yet to become acquainted.

Apparently, as Danielle implied, being with Smokey changed them. They looked the same on the outside, and could even speak in the same way & try to manipulate her, but they were actually different people than before they went in the hole.

Which is interesting because we've never "met" any characters who've spent time bonding with Smokey and lived to tell about it...lol. So I wonder what actually happened.

Yeah, but neither had the communications director (I forget his name) on the freighter, and he died of it.

I always thought there was another 'sickness', but I did not know it was connected to smokey.. there was no indication that her team ever 'time travelled' so no reason they would die from that. Also, the way Danielle called it 'the sickness' it really sounded like something that made them 'crazy' so to speak...

Didn't Locke look into the eye of the island?

After last season I assumed the sickness might have something to do with coming to the island on the wrong bearing -- obviously though it is Smokey related!
Re: So "Temporal Displacement" ISN'T the Sickness Danielle Spoke Of?
I saw the scene w/ Danielle and Robert completely differently.
I took it to mean that the team wasn't really "sick" at all, that Danielle had lost her mind with all that had happened (her friend killed, her other friend attacked by Smokey and his arm ripped off) and that she shot the team b/c of that. And then Robert knew she was beyond help and was going to shoot her to protect his own life.
I know it's also possible that going down into the "temple" after Smokey could have indeed caused something to go haywire with all but Danielle, so I see your point too, that the "sickness" is something we still don't know the whole story about and it was everyone but Danielle who was affected.
But I just remember Ben saying "I took a baby from a (what word did he use?-)deranged woman."

Another sickness, perhaps. But, if his knowing about the Temple and it's security system, aka Smokie, aroused enough suspicion in Danielle, she probably thought it justified an terminal act of self defense to protect her unborn child.
Take it from me, do not ever piss off a pregnant woman. I cannot emphasize that enough. Especially the one you're married to.
