The island is jumping in time, not the leftbehinders!
I think this episode might have cleared up at least one question we have had. That is: Is it the island that was jumping in time, or is it the losties that is jumping through time?
This episode points to the Island jumping as a whole. When Eloise was giving her speech she spoke of them finding what "time" period the island was at. She also spoke of where the island was, but she specifically said something about "when" it was.
Secondly With the 316er's landing in the same time as Jin and prusumably the other leftbehinders it showed that it's the islands time that is jumping. Because had it been the lefties that were jumping you would think that the 316ers would come back to closee to the same time as to when the left or at the very least in a different time than the left behinders.
Re: The island is jumping in time, not the leftbehinders!
My impression is that it is both when and where, the island is moving in both time and location. Thats why the window is at a specific location at a specific time...
If its the island that is jumping in time, some is tagging along with it and some dont...strange! Cant wait to get some answers on this...

Yes i got that as well, but After the last few episodes there was a lot of discussion about wether it was the island actually jumping throug time or if it was just the leftbehinders. This episode seem to strongly suggest that it was the island as a whole. But in that case, why is it that none of the other people that they meet in their jumps notice that the island jumps, or why arn't they affected as well?
Re: The island is jumping in time, not the leftbehinders!
Yes, it makes sense. That would explain how Jin is apparently still in sync with the O6. The 1980-ish Island is in the 2008 world. However that fails to explain the Ajira water bottle they found in the out-rigger on the future island.
Re: The island is jumping in time, not the leftbehinders!
I think we have to lay down some definitions here. I propose that instead of talking simply about the island, we need to consider the island's bubble of influence, which itself can be physically quantified. So there is the bubble, which is a thing that exists in relation to the rest of the planet. But the things INSIDE the bubble are their own little universe, and as we've seen they can be quite off-kilter in relation to the rest of the world. So, the bubble is not jumping in time. Otherwise it would not be there to intercept Flight 316. But once Flight 316 passes through the bubble, anyone aboard that flight will be transported to that other universe which exists only in the bubble. Now within that universe, there are other relative relationships happening. There are two distinct players that we know of....the island, and the Losties (all-inclusive). It does appear that the island is moving through time, and our Losties are just along for the ride. That would explain why the O6 ended up in the same time period as the LBs. I mean, it doesn't really explain WHY, but it does. I am going on the assumption that the LBs have exerienced the same length of 3 years that the O6 did before their arrival last night. Does that stuff make sense? It does to me...

Perhaps when conditions are "normal" the island and it's inhabitants move through time and space together - so the inhabitants don't really notice it. However, when the wheel was used - it caused those who were not "of the island" to jump around it independently through time, while the island itself is still moving through time and space.

It isn't logical. As Daniel said, "this is where we leave science behind." It has something to do with our Losties having a purpose to fulfill. Some sort of course correction which sets them apart from the rest of the people on the island.

I think that when conditions are normal, the island doesn't jump through time at all. It just jumps through space. The O6 really messed things up when they left. I believe the time jumps are a means to course-correction.

Yes I assume they have spent the same amount of time as the O6 (3 years) on the island. If you notice Jin had longer hair, and looked as if he aclimated to the time he had spent there. Wearing Dharma clothes, driving a VW van. I'll be interested in seeing if his english is much better due to the three years he has spent there. Now we will probably see fb's of the 3 years spent on the island without the O6. And your theory about the bubble does make sense and is most likely the case.
On the subject of the Ajira bottles in the outrigger, if the leftbehinders were in the future when they found that with the bottles, and the 316 plane crashes or goes through the bubble of influence at an earlier date (1980-ish date) then there would be Ajira material there for their future jump.
