WHEN was Christian?

i just knew something was up when sun and lapidus docked the boat. all that wreckage and rubbish strewn all over the place. and then smokey, coming or going. then in the barracks it looked like a tornado or smokey had run through the place! and no one around. like a ghost town. but actually, when was it where christian was? was it after the incident and before the barracks was renovated (if that even happened), or is it even further into the future.

whatever or whenever it was, it was a very cool scene. one of christian's that i've enjoyed most.

You could put Jack and Kate on a New York City street and have them pass each other at rush hour on a Wednesday morning. And they would stop and turn, slowing to watch each other go by. They know each other within the context of a universal recognition. They have met before this life. And, they will meet again, in another.

Re: WHEN was Christian?

THey had the thirty years earlier scene and that cut to '77, so I'm under the impression it's 2007 on the island. Though 2008 seems more likely, we dont' know how close to christmas or the new year they are in 1977 time.

It wouldn't be three years off the island if it wasn't 2008, but the thirty years earlier cuts to the DI '77. Losties left the island early january 2005, so three years off the island would at the very least, be January 2008. Maybe just a slight oversight on their part.

Re: WHEN was Christian?

When Sun and Frank first docked I thought - the dock is a mess from the submarine explosion, but then when I saw New Otherton, that wasn't how we saw it all last. Besides being all rundown, some of the windows were boarded up. Also that processing center's sign was dangling - why was it still up?
I am thinking maybe the O6 and Sawyer and them changed the past?

Re: WHEN was Christian?

It's very early 2008, or late 2007. Smokey and Keamey's team trashed Otherville. And it's been 3 years since that happened, and it rains a lot there. So... destruction. As for the sign that is out of place, I said this is another thread, but I think that it'sj ust there to show the casual viewer that Othervlle and Dharmaville are definitely the same place.

That's a nice observation.

Wasn't any signs like that in Ben's Otherton, were there? Though we never really saw the whole of Otherton other than a far, panning away over head shot. Interesting though.

It was more like a ghost town. Is it next week yet?

Re: WHEN was Christian?

i get where everyone's coming from with actual year guesses, but personally i don't take Christian's appearance that way. IMHO his appearances aren't linear time and space-based like the physical entities on the island, so i see his existence as more ethereal and Jacob-like in nature (that is, he's not physically-bound like our Losties but has maybe become unstuck in time due to, perhaps, a physical/metaphysical break, and now flits about without tether).

Re: WHEN was Christian?

But the runway on Hydra Island was made back in '04 right? Maybe the Hydra and the main Island are in different times now as well
