Re: 316: Behind the Cockpit

I'm really glad Jeff Fahey has become a regular on lost I love him as an actor. I look at him in the Bruce Campbell B-Movie actor vein but a much better actor than Bruce. I have to say some of the secondary characters in this show have become my favorites over the main characters. They've definitely helped keep me watching.

Re: 316: Behind the Cockpit

This scene was incredible. I loved it. I, too, went back and rewatched it. I loved when the co-pilot asks Lapidus about seeing Hurley in the plane all the way through that attempt to land on the Hydra Island runway. Great, great scene. Jeff Fahey is such a nice addition to this show. I like the energy he brings.

I definitely think this is one of the best opening scenes of any episode of LOST.

Re: 316: Behind the Cockpit

I agree that the scene was full of awesome. One thing that bugged me is that the (exterior of the) plane was a 737NG. The cockpit of a 737NG is extremely high-tech, with five video displays replacing most of the old-fashioned gauges. (as seen here). The cockpit in the show was from some very old plane. It looked like it was shot the cockpit of some junker, and they rigged some of the instrument lights to blink on and off. (And the landing gear lever was in the down position the whole time.) But there's only so much you can do on a TV show budget, and like I said, I thought the overall effect was great. The shots of it landing on the runway were fantastic. I was disappointed with last season's freighter explosion and helicopter crash effects, but all the airplane effects so far this season have been great.

Yeah, I definitley agree with you there. The effects of the Ajira plane overall were great, really well done. I also found the iteration of the numbers over the radio quite interesting, so I hope we figure out evetually what that was all about.

Re: 316: Behind the Cockpit

I still can't get over Frank's smooth airline pilot look! I kind of liked the rough chopper pilot get up with the loud Hawaiian shirts and face fungus. But I do think he is a great character, a no-nonsense tell it straight sort of bloke. (Sure he isn't Australian?)
