Painting in the Flame

There's something about that painting in the background in the Flame that wierds me out. I suppose if it were any sort of known artwork or reference, some of the terribly clever people here would have ID'd it already though, eh?

Re: Painting in the Flame

I've not seen that it's been ID'd, but I could have missed it. It looks like either a barn with a silo next to it, or possibly a mill, with it's entire image being reflected in the water of what looks like a creek or small river that flows under an arched bridge.

The mill idea comes from the fact that the bridge seems to run directly into the building...whatever it is. And of course there's snow.

I'm not sure what the building in the foreground is, but it seems to be attached to the other end of the bridge.

Yep, it's curious!

Of course if it is a barn, it may be related to the fact that they keep the cow there at The Flame.

The object on the right of the painting reminds me of that mountain in "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"

Re: Painting in the Flame

It seems to be done in a simplistic style. I can't make much sense out of the lower left quadrant, other than that it reminds me of a person in winter clothing, on a toboggan.

I'm not obsessed with LOST...just very, very interested.

Wow emma good eye. I don't think the terribly clever people even caught it to id it. It is weird though. Can't quite make out what it is.

Re: Painting in the Flame

It looks like it has a little water/silo thing outside the barn just like outside the Flame....the one we see Jin run past when he goes looking for Sun and finds Sayid.

Re: Painting in the Flame

When I first looked up, I thought it looked like an execution platform (a place to hang someone from). So I stopped the film, and it wasn't that — but I can't figure out what the heck it is!

Here is a closer look. I caught it right off too..glad someone started a thread on it.

at first it looked like a Dali surrealist painting, but it is too cubist; Dali is very 'fluid and rounded'...note all the lines are straight..as if drawn with a ruler. It kinda looks like an early computer generated painting. I don't rec. a certain painter, but looks like it's meant to be by someone in particular.

the figure on the right def'ly looks like a stylized horse...
I think it looks like a wooden Trojan horse(?)

the figure on the left looks like a simplified house, (or cabin) sim to the ones we've seen in many Lost paintings.

see the crescent moon on the flat surface in the middle? That's the symbol of Islam.

To give some meaning...
In my humble opinion;

It is saying Sayid is a 'Trojan Horse' (someone who is not what they appear to be) that is being brought to the 'Dharma's house'. Sayid is Islamic!

(most of the paintings in Lost have been done by Jack Bender, one of the directors, and were done for Lost..and he did the hatch mural. Maybe he did this one too..no word on it yet in Lostpedia)

Re: Painting in the Flame

I saw that one too, but it didn't strike me the same way the other one did. Generically tribal artifact, maybe even some kind of decorative chest piece. But if anybody's got anything on that one, I'd like to hear that too!
