Richard to Widmore: This has nothing to do with you.
So right at the beginning of the episode we have yet another example of Richard's weird "doesn't quite fit in the hierarchy of Others" role.
Quote:
WIDMORE: What have you done, Richard?
RICHARD: Calm down. Calm down. This has nothing to do with you.
WIDMORE: So it's true? You actually brought one of them to our Temple?
RICHARD: He's just a boy, and he was dying.
WIDMORE: Then you should've let him die.
RICHARD: Jacob wanted it done. The Island chooses who the Island chooses. You know that.
WIDMORE: Yes. Yes, of course. What's his name?
This has nothing to do with you??? Sure as heck didn't look like Widmore was of that opinion as he came charging up. How can it have nothing to do with Widmore if Richard is bringing someone else into the fold that Widmore leads?
Last week we had Richard stating he didn't answer to Charles or Ellie. So, are we getting any closer to what exactly Richard's role might be? He seems to be an independent that is just sort of there... representing what? Also, he seems to takes over in the absence of a leader.

We need a Richard centric episode.
I think its because Richard doesn't answer to Charles or Ellie, he answers to the island. Whenever a leaders loses his rank, he seems envious of his predecessor(sp?). When Ben was told by Alex to follow Locke, he looked as if he understood how he was to accept the end of his term and the beginning of Locke's in order to satisfy the Island. IDK, he could have a change of heart.
