Do we know when Dan was born? According to the timeline, Miles, Hurley and Kate were born in '77. Daniel seems older than them. He may be alive on the island already.
I sure wasn't expecting Dan's own Mother to shoot him. But in retrospect, she did show a lot of anguish on her face while trying to convince him to take Widmores offer and go to the island.

Yeah, that was the whole point of her line to Widmore about what she sacrificed by sending Daniel to the island. Both Eloise and Charles knew they had sent their son to the island to die.
But as for the timeline, with Widmore and Eloise still on the island in 1977, it would make sense that there's a young Daniel running around in the hostiles' camp.

That's what I was wondering too, was Dan already born in 1977? I thought he might have been since they used the same actress as the piano flashback, and she looked the same age.(although that doesn't really mean anything)
