The location of Daniel's upbringing is ambiguous, and due to the real life reality of making a show the actors are casted for a variety of reasons, but was anyone else even slightly curious about why he has an American accent with a British mom and presumably raised in England (ie. going to Oxford).
The house hes living in when hes older and has memory problems is the same as when he was a child. Its in massachusetts - odd being that his parents are overseas and then he goes to college at oxford.
this is another thing that just doesnt seem right- but maybe they just did that BC the actor is american and his accent had to come from somewhere ( obviously not his parents)
Hey accents mean a lot. I always wondered how Ellie and Widmore had British accents if they were native to the island (indicating that they were not native to the island). Ben has a slightly affected American accent (probably due to the mixed accents he picked up in his teen years after being raised in America).
Accents are generally acquired and cemented in speech patterns prior to the end of adolescence. That's why Schwartzenegger has never lost his Austrian accent after four decades in America, whereas an Austrian boy moving to America a a younger age would have lost his accent almost completely.
My conclusion: Jeremy Davies is an accomplished actor who could have easily adopted an accent in his role. After all, other actors have in this series (Alan Dale aka Widmore is actually an Australian actor who adopted a British accent). Therefore, one can only assume that Daniel had to have been raised in an atmosphere of American accents, ie. America, an American overseas territory like Guam, Canada (yes, we sound just like Americans despite the stereotypes), or perhaps even the Island.

That's not a fixed rule, however. I know examples of people who moved to another country as adults, learned the language from scratch and are talking without any noticeable accent now.
Eloise raised him in the states, moved to oxford for university, his mother may not have been living there at the time, we don't know. Charles wasn't around so no accent from him.
Eloise never lost her accent, she was too old to change.
