The JourneyA provocative new journey through the lives of some of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 -- and a closer look at the island they're stranded on -- will be revealed. (First Aired: 2005-04-27) 61 minutes.
Curious to know whether anybody saw this, or can verify it on tape or Tivo:
As Kate fled into the jungle after she, Jack, and Charlie escaped the cockpit (with the monster not far behind, and roaring), I though I saw flashes as though someone was ranging a spotlight over her head.
I don't remember it from earlier this season, and my eyes could be playing tricks on me.* Can anybody have another look and help me out?
YES! Thank you! I noticed those last night as well. I assumed they were lightening flashes, but it is odd that they coincide with the monster. Also, while they were in the cockpit and the beastie was about, you could see flashes through the front window.
I may be going a tad mad in my old age, but was there a simular light effect when Locke saw the monster or what ever? Also, the hatch glowed for Locke, again white light.
Lucky for you cats, I have the episode on tape, I also have the episode where Locke sees the "monster" on my computer. I'll rewatch them later (I'm busy at the moment) and I'll get back to you!
There are a few times that strange white light seems to "radiate" from the monster. When Boone and Shannon are hiding from it, after the noises die down, they get bathed in a white glow, just before the monster lunges at them again. The way the light kind of fades in is similar to the light in the hatch too.. I definitely think whatever is in the hatch and the "monster" are related... perhaps even one in the same?
Thought the lights were tricks of my aging eyes - glad to hear they weren't! Didn't connect the light from the hatch with the 'monster' (I really prefer 'creature' - anyhow) but who knows you could be on to something!
I know this may seem farfetched since the beast wasn't very kind to the pilot, but....
Given the play with black & white, darkness & light we've seen throughout so far: do we want to draw any conclusions about the whiteness of this light?
Does this 'monster' represent something good -- or at least, ambiguously bad?
I did wonder at some point if the white light monster , creature,or whatever; was in fact 'rescueing' or removing people to reappear at some point. Or inspiring them is some way. Those who saw it and were affraid simply freaked because it was unkonwn. We are all scared by what we dont know. I wonder if Locke understands it , because it gave him his legs. Knowing the others reaction to it, he has to keep his understanding secret untill he finds out more. Hense the hatch stuff.
I missed the pilot, so i just saw the scene where they are all looking at the woods when tress are knocked down. I thought the lighting was strange in that scene. The entire back of the island is lit up like spotlights.
I honestly believe there are two "creatures", based on the two sources of noises in the pilot... one comes from the left, then a noise from the right, another from the left... Either it's really long and invisible, or there are two tree-shaking creatures out there... And in that case, I most definitely think one is inherently "good" natured, and the other inherently "evil", or at least, "not good".
