I still wonder why when sayid tried to warn the Danielle about the "monster" she said "there are no such things as monsters" maybe she's seen it before...she has been there for 16 years....maybe its not a monster at all.

Maybe Danielle *can't* see it.

She blames things the monster does on "the others" who she also hasn't seen. She just hears them whispering.

If the monster appears differently to different people, maybe it doesn't appear at all to Danielle because she doesn't believe in monsters.

(And a monster falls to the ground, dead.)

They have mechanical sounds... maybe they are some millitary bipod robots with artificial intelligence just wandering around as a research experiment...
Still don't explain the other wierd things going on thou...
