So, I assume that this was Janice's first date with this gal since they weren't clear on each other's careers. Which makes the whole scene really weird. Who says "I would never let you down" on a first date? That's just kind of weird. Then you decide to top off the whole scene with a really intimate kiss between two women that barely know each other in a public space? Just weird. Then she leaves a woman, who's practically a stranger, alone in her house? I've never thought to myself "Hey. I just slept with this chick after our first date. I'm sure I can totally leave her alone in my house!"
On a side note, Janice apparently lives a couple blocks from where I lived as a kid in Highland Park, Los Angeles. So that's cool!
Just because it was a first date doesn't mean they just met each other. They were both at that martial arts class, for all we know they've been going there together for years and are great friends who only started dating.
Definitely some weird conduct for a first date and if they did just meet it's completely irrational behaviour...but I don't remember them saying anything about just meeting each other.

I was thinking the same - it seemed like they already knew each other somewhat well but were new at the dating thing.

Well, they weren't even clear on what each other did for a living. So it seems they only knew each other in the most cursory way. Either way, it was just a strangely written scene.
I agree, that scene was really freakin weird. The whole relationship between them really.
Like when she see's her the next day and flips out and goes "I... I can't do this!"
My girlfriend turned to me and said "who the hell says that after a first date?"
It was way too intense for two people who clearly barely knew each other.
Being a sloot is one thing, but giving someone you just met free reign of your house? When you're an FBI agent? Seriously?

Just piping in to say I agree with these sentiments.
It was way over-done. To the point of awkward. Everything they said was dripping with "sensuality." They had that "hey look I'm secksay" tone every time they spoke to each other it seemed. The kisses were forced. Mass Effect the video game contains better examples of lesbian relationships than this episode.
Yes, parts of the relationship were very odd, very stilted in fact, but it is quite plausible they knew each other for some time in their TaeKwonDo class (yes, that's what Janice was doing). I used to do TaeKwonDo and went to classes for years, most often with the same people for most of those years, and I knew several people very well in class, but couldn't tell you anything about their lives outside of class.
Totally weird.
Didn't Janis say she could not come 'out' because of her job and then just after that she locks lips in a public restaurant?
That's being discrete?
She doesn't mind whatshername going through her things, in fact expects it, and then does a total turnaround when she's been Mosaic ed?
She doesn't expect anyone to see and ask questions about what she put on a public board?
She freaks over a discussion about a (maybe) future pregnancy (which is now moot after the shooting, I would think)......a discussion with someone she cares for and over whom she seems to be ga-ga. This upsets her????
I have a feeling these scenes were written by males who sometimes just don't get the relationship 'thing' or have a clue about a woman's motivation.
I thought the same for some of Kate's scenes and for Juliet's reasoning at the end of S5.
Written by Nicole Yorkin, Dawn Prestwich, Barbara Nance
I've also been noticing there are quite a few women in the writing credits.
