Lost weight loss program.

Why is it like been almost 50 days, and eating fruit all the time, I would think he would lose some weight to stay a believable character on the Island. IMO - Hurley needs to actually make a significant loss in weight over the off season. I have dieted frequesntly. I have dieted on fish, and he should have dropped an easy 30 pounds from the conditions on the island, the exercise, and the new diet.

Really, everyone should have lost weight by now. I keep worrying that they will kill of Hurley because it will really mess with continuity if he stays as heavy as he is. I have a friend who is as big, if not bigger than Jorge, and he hardly ever eats. I eat more than he does, and not nearly as heavy. So I think Jorge is one of those people that can't lose weight, and will be written off the island somehow.

I really don't think the writers will write off Hurley for that, lupiyomi. If they were that concerned with appearance continuity, they either wouldn't have hired Jorge or would have insisted he lose weight. They've done neither.

Also, if you have seen Jorge's recent Leno appearance and compare it to the pilot, you'll notice that he HAS lost some weight.

That being said, Sam, I think the moderators tend to frown on repeated topics such as this.

Re: Lost weight loss program.

The producers have said that they have no intentions of making Jorge lose weight. If he does it, it's of his own accord until we hear otherwise.

Re: Lost weight loss program.

Here's an idea- Hurley could go on a weight loss program eating Charlie's peanut butter.

I ate nothing but peanut butter (actual, not imaginary) for two weeks and, dude, did I ever lose weight!
Plus, now I hate peanut butter and have a nut allergy.

Or maybe since they plan to kill him off his weight doesn't really mater to them

Interesting thought. What makes you think they'll kill him off? Have you picked up on any other clues aside from the weight thing?

Speaking as a person who has been engaged in a epic weight-loss journey myself now for quite a long time, I think--no, I know--that it is quite realistic Hurley might not show any weight loss after only four weeks.* Didn't Michael say, in the finale, when he was talking to "the others" or whoever that spooky, motley crew was on that boat (paraphrasing) "We've been stranded on an island for a month!"* If it has only been a month, as in, four weeks, 30 days, then it is VERY realistic that the other Lostaways (and us fans/viewers!) wouldn't notice a dern thing yet.* The character of Hurley stated once that he IS losing weight, but he's a big guy and it doesn't show yet.* Trust me, this is all too realistic.* My highest weight ever was 226, and I'm a female only 5'4-3/4".* Yup, I was very obese.* This particular (and I believe FINAL) go around of trying to lose weight, I started at a high of 221.* Even when I got down to 200, so we are talking 21 pounds later, NO ONE NOTICED A DARN THING because I had started out so overweight.* And it took far more than four weeks or even four MONTHS for me to drop that 21 pounds, let me tell you.* As loathe as I am to talk about this so specifically on the net no less, I will tell you--because I think this is a very important topic, actually, so I'll share this personal info--that I am now about 175 lbs and only NOW am I starting to get the comments about "Wow, you are really losing weight!"* It has taken me a LONG time to get to this point, because I am losing weight in a healthy, sustainable way.* It is actually similar, diet-wise, to what the Lostaways might be eating on the island.* I won't bore you all with the details but I personally eat mainly whole, unadulterated, pure foods such as meat, vegetables and fruit.* That's about the size of it.* It is a very "natural" diet and it has NOT been fast weight loss, it has occurred sloooooooowly, over time.* People who have never struggled with a weight issue often think it is simply a matter of "calories in, calories out", but it is SO much more complex than this!* Now, granted, if you are stranded on an island and must live off the land, it suddenly becomes far LESS complex in many ways:* You do not have to function in a society with a food supply that is absolutely infused with the exact WRONG things for your diet/health/weight loss, things that are addictive and fuel a cycle of cravings and gaining.* You don't have the social pressures to eat the aforementioned cr*p (sorry, I get a tad empassioned on this subject), and too bad, Charlie (or Hurley *lol*) if you get tempted to "go off" your diet, as you can't run out to the store for chips and dip, you have to stick with the fish, fruit and Sun's garden greens (yay!) available there on the island.* So, in some ways, it certainly would be easier to lose weight if you found yourself stranded on the Lostaway Spa Island, but still I'm here to tell you for sure that it is realistic that nothing would show yet in four measley weeks.* It certainly could, with such a drastic change in their diets, but in no way would it necessarily be that it should show yet.* No way.

That said, the question remains about should the powers that be instruct Jorge to lose weight for the sake of realism in the story, as Hurley would necessarily lose weight over time on the show.* I, for one, am heartened to read in this thread that they have left that entirely up to him.* Very heartened.* I would hate to see a whole Judy Garland thing going on wherein they try to pressure him to lose.* I mean, on the one hand, he would have it "easy" (although only someone who has never struggled with a weight problem would DARE to use the word "easy" in conjuction with doing so, as it never is, so I only use that word here for lack of a better alternative...and let me change it to "easIER than most") because I'm sure ABC/Lost would give him the benefit of trainers, support, etc., etc., etc., and he would have, of course, all of us fans behind his efforts, too.* However, on the other hand, the pressure that he could feel could be tremendous, as I can't imagine having my personal weight loss journey play out before a national audience!* omg.* For me, it has NOT been linear, it has been more like an alcoholic or drug addict in recovery and, when I've "slipped", I have actually gained back everything I've lost and had to start at square one again.* I can't imagine that playing out in front of a national audience!* Oh, the horror.* THE HORROR.* However, like learning to ride a bike, each wipe out has been a crucial learning experience for me to learn to keep my balance and master how to stay in the groove.* By George, I think I've got it now, but it is still a challenge every day and, still staying with the alcoholic analogy, I think I will never be "cured", but will be "in recovery" my entire life, as I have to make choices each and every day, and each of them is rife with unique challenges.

I would just say this to Jorge, if he is reading:* I, for one fan--and I think many if not most feel this way--love and adore you just the way you are, as you are totally beautiful inside and out.* Ditto for the endearing, wonderful character of Hurley.* I think it would be just as realistic if Hurley did not lose weight for quite a while, as if he did.* I especially think it is realistic that he hasn't shown a visible loss after only four weeks, especially since they had snack foods from the plane left for part of that time.* All that said, if you decide that you do want to lose some weight, either for health reasons, for the character/situation on the show, or both, I would point you to the following link to the diet I follow.* I do not want to push anything here, just add a link, I hope that is okay.* I just feel passionate about it because it is the first one (diet, that is) I've ever found on which I feel satisfied, deeply nourished, in balance, and like I can sustain it for a lifetime.

If interested--and only if interested, not pushing anything here, this is just something that is working for me--here is a link to the homepage: http://www.dadamo.com/

Note: Edited link so that it is to the homepage/info. on the diet, instead of to the message board.
